Exhaust manifold, parts removed, headers before/after etc.

A little bit I had a bigger issue with the bolts not wanting to turn, very cheap headers. The bolt holes were nearly welded over. The starter was the least of my worries.

Did you not put the bracket that went from the alternator to the power steering back on. If not are you about to run without the power steering coming lose?

If your talking about the one I cut I did not reinstall it because the headers hit them.

But nothing every came loose. Although I never ran it more than 5min. at a time.

When I buy name brand headers and a new bracket I will make sure there's room and they don't hit.

Ooooohoo thats sexy looking man. I got the same truck. You should put a K&n filter and high perform wireset with good distributor. HUGE DIFFERENCE.

My headers would not fit unless I either removed my entire front half of the engine or brake that bracket so I did.

I just bent it back and forth until it broke but looks kinda funky. But my headers fit :D

Are you going to use the Y-pipe? because I think you need to use mid-length headers if your using the stock Y-pipe. Otherwise, Yes you can use Long tube headers with no problem, there should be no clearance issues (depending on brand used) some are larger than others.

NOTE: avoid cheap headers, they warp, the welds don't hold under extreme heat, the so called ceramic paint peels, (JUST AVOID THEM)

choose name brand headers! "Hooker, Hedman, JBA, Pacesetter, Flowtech, etc

there a pain in the ass to put on i got headman long tubes i had to undo the pass. side motor mount and jack the motor up and it was still tight to put on

Headers depending on quality can increase HP up to 20HP, cheaper ones "you lose power",

dual exhaust gain 5-20 HP depending on size & length of pipe used, etc,

K&N round air cleaner you gain 6.72 HP,

TBI which one? there are alot to chose from. -

I am pretty sure I saw somewhere you get 10-20hp gain for a Holly 670cfm 2bbl

i wuz doing same thing tomy chevy caprice 94 4.3 v8...while removing exh.manifold underneathe theres the spark plugs and next to them theres a "sensor" if thats what it is..not o2 sensor,.. it goes into motor ...well it has a plug that come on/off the plastic broke so now it dont stay on...what is this piece called?...anyone...right in between spark plugs and theres 1 of these on both sides under exh.manifld

sounds like the temp. sending unit. is the thermastat gauge working

They were kinda a pain to install because, there's a bracket that you can either bend out of the way to get the drivers side header in or you could remove the alternator, power steering pump, etc. until you can access the brackets bolts, and remove it. OR what I did is remove the two visible bolts, and cut the bracket off or (bend & twist the bracket) until it snaps. Leaving a tiny piece that won't obstruct the headers. These are mid length headers -- Thanks

There is an Intake Manifold and an Exhaust Manifold.

Headers are tubular steel in the 4 to 1 design. The better headers are ceramic coated inside & out, Headers increase the engines performance, dissipates the heat better - sound better, possibly better mpg, lighter in weight also.

Where as exhaust manifolds are "nearly" straight and made of heavy "1-piece" cast iron which limits power, performance & they restrict the engines real potentials.

Installing headers will void new car warranties "if applicable"

So install at own risk
