We have had this same problem with our 2007 Kia Sedona. It has been in and out of the Kia shop on 4 separate occasions since November 2010, ever since the door came open while I was driving on the highway with 2 young children in the back. Now about to bring it back to the shop because the door cannot be opened from the outside. Frustrating.
I had the same problem with 05 Caravan SXT and problem was im black wiring bundle (on lower part of the van, right under the door, it bends every time door opens/closes). Once we replaced that problem was GONE!
i work at a kia dealership, and we just fixed one. we had to order new latches for both doors and a door module. then you have to call Kia Techline and have them walk the techs through an adjustment that they do 1 mm at a time (time consuming). then they'll recalibrate and relearn the door module. tech line will tell the techs how to do it. no promise this works for every van but this one is all better
most minivans have problems like this, doesnt matter what make and model. But both this kia and its hyundai brother the entourage have this problem. IMO the van is a piece of shit, because this is one of many problems they have. However Hyundai instructs its techs to replace cables I believe.
i have two kias and they are not shit...like you said this is a common problem and i see it allllll the time...its under warranty atleast...i have a 05 sedona lx and ive never had a issue with it (50k miles) my door cable did come loose around 42k miles and i tried to readjusted and i tightend too much long story short kia fixed it for free..
Same issue here. It's a 2007. Been in the shop 8 times in 8 months. Eachtime they claim to have fixed it. But within 1 day it starts up again. We have filed for a lemon Law.
Could you tell me more about your filing? What it involves, what you are asking for etc? We have a Kia Sedona with this same door problem and have had it in and out of the garage numerous times over the past 12 months and still it doesn't work.
Want to REDUCE the possibility of that happening? Close the door when the engine is running. The higher voltage (13.8 as opposed to 12) will close the door correctly almost every time!
My dealership contacted the main KIA repair division, and they suggested adjusting the doors (it appears that they were adjusted outwards by 1/4 inch or so).
We have not had the same problem since.
Ask your dealership to contact Hagerstown Kia Repair Division for information on the problem (tell them to ask for J.R.).

There's a TSB on this, they replace both power door modules with an updated part. Mention this o your dealer or find a new dealer.

We have the exact same problem with our brand new Sedona, with ours the door even opened of it's own accord whilst the car was moving!

Roll your windows up, then try it. It's a safety feature.
n1gganometry 4 years ago
The windows are rolled up. The safety feature is only when the sliding door windows are down.

Ohhhhh ok.

There is a recall out on the door we found out because our Sedona had some of the same issues.
