This IS my favourite film of all time... So sweet and innocent! It talks directly to the heart. I have the DVD and watch it whenever MY life gets me down... I yearn for the values of the simple life surrounded by beauty whenever I see it. And the whimsicality is 'just' outside reality. I KNOW about true love now. Thank you.

Wonderful film that was shot in Pennan, near Aberdeen.. The twist of course is that the corporate killer proved less ruthless than the inhabitants who were happy to sell their perceived idillic life for cash - so long as it was enough. We all have a price. Have visited Pennan, but it is beaches on the west coast of Scotland that are the true stars.

0.54... I've always wondered.. is Marina a mermaid?? This is in my top 5 films of all time. Maybe no. 1. And I am having that music at my funeral... from about 2.53 onwards.

@theglobaltiger No. Marina was NOT a mermaid. Neither was "Stella" a star. But the two together represent all of nature, I think. "Sea and sky.... I like it, I like it. . ."

It is. One of the funniest, most life-affirming, quirkiest films I've seen. The characters are charming and the plot takes humorous and unexpected twists. It's a sweet story with no violence and no meanness
