I just watched this again..every so often...I wish my life was this simple and relaxed. If you have not seen the movie...do so...it is in my top 5 favourites
This IS my favourite film of all time... So sweet and innocent! It talks directly to the heart. I have the DVD and watch it whenever MY life gets me down... I yearn for the values of the simple life surrounded by beauty whenever I see it. And the whimsicality is 'just' outside reality. I KNOW about true love now. Thank you.
This is one of the truely great movies of my generation (I'm 54). This final scene moves me to tears and I've watched the film so many times I've lost count
Wonderful film that was shot in Pennan, near Aberdeen.. The twist of course is that the corporate killer proved less ruthless than the inhabitants who were happy to sell their perceived idillic life for cash - so long as it was enough. We all have a price. Have visited Pennan, but it is beaches on the west coast of Scotland that are the true stars.
0.54... I've always wondered.. is Marina a mermaid?? This is in my top 5 films of all time. Maybe no. 1. And I am having that music at my funeral... from about 2.53 onwards.
@theglobaltiger No. Marina was NOT a mermaid. Neither was "Stella" a star. But the two together represent all of nature, I think. "Sea and sky.... I like it, I like it. . ."
@LazlosPlane ....but maybe Marina was a mermaid. How did she swim all the way up the coast? I always loved the slight mystery about that. And I never spotted the Stella/star reference... I like that too!
It is. One of the funniest, most life-affirming, quirkiest films I've seen. The characters are charming and the plot takes humorous and unexpected twists. It's a sweet story with no violence and no meanness
@GarethNIreland Absolutely, yes! I finally saw it for the first time the other day (it was on TV here in the UK), and I'm so glad I watched it. Cleverly written, brilliantly acted, and features some of the most beautiful location shots you'll ever see.
Great comments. I am glad I am not the only guy who shed a tear or two. It sums up the things I have lost in life. So many beautiful places maybe I could have stayed at. I love Scotland, Ireland and New Zealand
i KNOW THAT IF I WAS MAC I WOULD SELL THE FLAT AND APPLY FOR A POSITION IN THE NEW HAPPER FACILITY AND GO AND LIVE ON SITE AS IT WERE THIS MOVIE SHOULD AND ACOULD HAVE A SEQUEL A KIND OF RETROSPECTIVE 20 ODD YEARS LATER AND REUNINITING AS MANY OF THE ORIGINAL CAST AS POSSIBLE AFTER ALL IT WAS DONE WITH WHISKY GALORE / ROCKETS GALORE...............

死ぬまで記憶に留め、時々見たい映画です。この映画が日本ではどの位有名なのかは知りませんが、
Mark Knopler氏は音楽ファンの間では有名人だと思います。テーマ曲は静かなイントロと
力強いエンディングで何度きいても感動します。

This film hit you the same way it did me. It's all about loss and love.

My favorite film of all time. We have all been to that one place we wish we could stay. How Mark Knopfler's score did not win an Oscar is a shame.
"I'd make a good Gordon, Gordon." How canya not love that???
"I wonder what the 'pure' people are doing tonight?" Man that is great.
