May I ask.... do the coffee grinds stay at the bottom of the pot? or do you get some grinds in your coffee cup? I noticed Greek coffee is not strained or filtered, as we do here in America. It still looks delicious! Can't wait to try it sometime. Greetings from America! Your mother is adorable! :)
I watched many Youtube videos on how to make Greek, Turkish and Armenian coffee. Your mom made it the best! The Crema on top of the coffee looked perfect. Thanks for sharing.

wow, this is exactly what i needed to see. i bought a bag of the "green" brand the other day thinking it was regular drip coffee, but then i read the instructions on the bag and didnt know what they were talking about. You showed me. Thanks!
I went to Israel a couple of months ago and while I was in the Palestinian Territories I had an Arabic coffee. It was delicious so when I came home I tried to make it myself but all the instructions on the internet are rubbish.
Then I found out Arabic and Greek are the same thing and found your video so I thought I'd give it one last try following your video exactly and it finally worked.
I just wish I'd found your video a couple of months ago.
If you want to be super-traditional, I think originally Yemeni coffee was used. As for the foam, well, I don't know about the foam. I get the feeling this is the kind of thing one learns best with a live person to show them. For those of us without local Greeks (or Turks), I guess this video's the next best thing.
Well, no, the best way to make Greek coffee isn't to use Colombian coffee beans. I'm not sure why someone said that. However, they probably get used a lot even in Greece because Colombia is one of the cheapest places to import coffee from thus most major coffee companies use their stuff.
There's plenty of other single-origin beans and they all work with this. It's just that only enthusiasts get exposure to beans besides Brazilian and Colombian. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Thank you dear greek goddess! I just bought your brand of coffee, here in Montreal and wanted to learn how to use it properly. Now, I can enjoy a wonderful cup of happiness!
I tried this exactly as shown... same stainless briki, same sized cups, and even the exact same greek coffee (loumidis), I let it warm up on medium, then once a bit of white froth started, I mixed, then eventually let boil. I never got that dark cream that you get here. It just boils and boils.
I think that Greek coffee is actually not sweetened at all. Also I have been told that the coffee should not boil at all but it will slowly foam instead.
nice video but remember the most important thing is the coffee seeds, don't use Robusta or anny Blend ! juste pure colombian arabica !!! This IS VERY IMPORTANT
Not from South America man. Just google it and you 'll see its origination and its history. Not everything in Greece have come from America you know...
@TMxoxo i prefer the texture of turkish coffee but greek coffee is just as good tasting..... espresso was amongst the first i had ever drank thanks to my mom (pure italian... born and raised).... cuban coffee was very good as well..... "when it comes to coffee(or tea)... dont be picky... have a cup... and enjoy with a friend"
this made me smile :) efcharisto i now remember exactly how to make Greek coffee - we cant say heehee but i like the one with the parrot!! THANKs xxxx
This was great-now I'm all set to make Greek coffee! I've always enjoyed it in restaurants, and now I can enjoy it at home as well. Thanks to you and your lovely mom.
Just got a tiny ibrik in mail today, ran out got fine coffee grounds at grocery, ran home and turned on your demo, while I made first attempt at coffee...was frustrated the grounds floated. Obviously don't have your Mom's abilities yet.... but I carried on anyhow...then poured into cups, and tasted....oh HEY! I've never had greek coffee, but I can tell you THIS IS GOOOOD stuff. I will now practise until I get better at it. I may even track down the right kind of ground coffee. Thanks! (USA)
Excellent tutorial. This video is exactly what I needed: bought my supplies and coffee while in Crete, but couldn't find instructions on how to make Greek coffee properly.
its very similar with how we brew coffee here in the philippines.. i'd like to try it..it's very yet it seems so much fun. btw, your mom is very adorable. tell her she did a great job!!

Thanks a lot for the tutorial! Only one question.. The coffee powder you use is particular? Or can I use no matter what kind of powder?
Seems it would be only a matter of taste
Thank you again you both! Greetings
SilverChamp87 1 year ago
@SilverChamp87 As far as I'm aware, the grain of the coffee is what matters, not so much the bean itself. It's generally very finely blended.

Ok, so I use the exact same briki and coffee and follow this to the T.
I get the "cream" on top exactly like this BUT once I pour it into my cup, it just disappears. Any ideas?
