First rule while in the process of getting a tattoo: If you have the slightest hint that you could pass out, tell the artist and he will stop, let you cool off, give you a soda or something until the feeling passes. Deep breathing is rule one and a half.

( nice grammar) endorphins dont make you pass out fool, the body produces endorphins because of exercise, excitement, pain, or even spicy food, yep its a well known fact that if you dont breath you will pass out,. keep them talking and monitor them until the body KICKS OUT enough ENDORPHINS to DEAL WITH the pain and then they will be fine( about 15min.) . lets see ,.. i have 15 years in tattooing and working in a blood bank and you ....?
Lol omg I can sympathise with you !! I had my lower back tattooed a few days ago and I passed out too !!! It wasnt because of the pain or anything I think it was just cuz I was sitting upright :p It was a good thing really cuz as soon as I asked to lay down I was perfectly fine the rest of the tattoo :D lol
The problem probably is that they forget to breathe... Sound funny but thats what they do. They are so exited / tense / scared that breathing is too light, slowly decreasing to the point they pass out. Thats why artist often remind customers breath calmly and to focus on breathing at start.

People, and I for one (used too), tend to hold their breath sometimes while the needle is puncturing the skin, because we seem to think it helps the pain, but It's important to breathe. I just breathe small-medium breaths at a calm state and then you won't pass out.
I just passed out for the first time getting my second tat done a week ago. Definitely felt weird. Tattoo artist said it's not unusual, especially if you're getting one in a place where it's going to hurt. I got a big piece done across my chest, almost from shoulder to shoulder. Above the heart and the sternum are especially painful.

aha Yea I passed out after I got it done and I was looking in the mirror...
But I was dumb and didnt eat, was out partying the night before and didn't sleep at all
Luckly i told the artist I was feeling light headed and he caught me as I was falling lol
