What do we do if we have a shitty BELKIN router that doesn't have an IP address to go to?! My Xbox360 says that our network's wireless mode is off. you probably connected to a neighbors wireless network. some people don't have passwords set on their routers so your computer might have automatically connected to it.

I have a modem/router combo (Verizon GT704WG DSL) I'm not so sure how it works. Right now I have 2 ethernet cables going to a computer in my room and another in the living room. So if I wanted to set up wifi how would this work? Also what is the channel when you set up the router settings? Lastly how do I know that my computer can use wifi? BTW I'm doing this mainly for my iPod Touch and PS3 and don't mind if I have to stay w/ cords for my PC. Thanks

A word to everyone: If the wireless network is unstable or it has problems connecting by use of Wireless - Try changing the channel instead of going out to get another router. You might find that other wireless networks are also using channel 1, 6 or 11 by default. They disturb each other by default values.

I just wanted to put out there that a router can "mess up" the 2wire. When I first got connected to a 2Wire, several years a go, I had a router hooked up to it. When I couldn't get into the teh tubez I was stumped... called Att, got ahold of some guy in India and he pointed out that the 2Wire and router were incompatible...

I'm not saying that your setup COULN"T work, just saying it may prove to be difficult. Good luck! :)

The ISP or internet provide must give you a DSL/Modem like qwest which uses phone cable and filters or Comcast which uses cable coax cable wire. Your DSL/modem has to be reliable when it comes the speed you are paying for. Qwest charges more for faster access. Connect the Router to the DSL/modem via WAN port.

The 2wire is the SDL/modem. Check the led lights if it has wireless led. Your Laptop must be equiped with built in wireless adapter, USB or external wireless. Most laptops nowdays come with builtin wireless. when u turn your laptop it will find the signal of the DSL/mode then procede to do the security - WEP is easier..the security # is in the DSL/mode box.

your question is not very clear.. Your DSL/modem must have wireless led light. DSL/modems provide wireless connection for 2 or more up to 6 computers. Plus they have 3 or 4 ethernet ports for cable wiring.

If your Wireless drops the connection, it can be caused by interference by microwaves, cell phones or cordless phones on the same channel. Access your Router and change the Wireless channel and then test the connection. Also, update the Routers Firmware if one is available. I would also recommend if the signal isn't the greatest, purchase a aftermarket antenna to boost the signal. Good Luck!

- When setting up a Wireless Router, do not use WEP, it is a weak Security Encryption that can be cracked within seconds. Use WPA-PSK along with TKIP or AES. I would also recommend that you disable the SSID Broadcast so your Wireless Router isn't broadcasting so hackers will have a harder time locating your router. Netgear Routers are the only ones that list the default subnet and username and password on there products, others have them listed on there manuals.

That's how I get in, but I really don't know whether they change the third number to a one or a zero if your modem has the same one. My modem is 192.168.1.1. It all depends on what you have, but you can always get these just by doing a simple search, too.

I think that in order to make it enable only certain computers, you have to have it on WPA wireless mode, which is more secure than WEP mode. WEP is actually pretty good but WPA is the newer, more secure wireless signal and that is virtually impossible to hack into. This is very helpful, although kind of short and incomplete.

with ps3 if you must have broadband modem signal and if u have a wireless modem you just have to click on the menu under "network settings", and input your security options, if you have any. Otherwise, just hardwire it to the console with the ethernet cable (cat5) and it will be automatically secure if there is no OTA signal. You can't get on the internet over the phone without the broadband.

Not necessarily. You are able to plug an ethernet cable directly from your computer into the router, which will still connect you to the internet. Most wireless routers have ethernet ports on the back. If you want to go wireless, you need a wireless adapter, or card for notebooks. the router has an antenna and/or various cable connectors on the back. It is basically a signal splitter, hardwire or wireless and if you have an antenna on your modem you probably dont need a router. It is incorporated into your modem.

@ the step where you are entering your ip in the web browser, if u are using a d-link modem, default user and password will be admin and the ip you enter in will be 10.1.1.1 (well it is for me anyway...)
