Are mixes more prone to health problems? My boxer/lab mix that I got 5 years ago from the shelter as a pup is really starting to suffer from joint problems.. i think displasia. It hurts to see him in so much pain but the vet said a lot of other dogs go through the same thing and there is nothing to do outside of surgery and that doesn't always work either :(

@84lee84 A awesome workout to build muscles on a dog are playing fetch and swimming. But my personal favorite exercise that I came up with is to have my dog jump for 20 minutes on and off my bed. Even though I do all 3 of those workouts I still don't have a boxer that muscular. But then again he is very close to having the same amount of muscle as the fawn Boxer in this video. That Boxer has the most muscle I have ever seen on a boxer in real life and on YouTube.

All were responsibly Cropped and Docked; all lived happy, healthy lives without the need for any sort of Physiological therapy to deal the procedure. I have been present for every on of our Cropping procedures- the same competent and skilled veterinarian was on hand for all our dogs surgeries; and we have great faith in his professionalism. After 1 day of recovery; all our K9s were happy being and doing normal K9 things. Have a nice day

You're incredibly stupid. Fixing an animal is for it's own benefit. In males it prevents testicular cancer, and in females ovarian. Not to mention a host of other diseases and disabilities. It also helps to curb the problem with overbreeding. So, no. Don't let them keep their balls unless you're a responsible breeder. Ear cropping is ridiculous and unnecessary. It can be beneficial to some dogs, e.g. prevents ear infections, but for the most part it's just something the owner wants.

The boxer was originaly used for Bull Batting, as well as using for guard dogs. I hate it when they have their ears cropped up like that, it makes them more agressive, which they are not. But they do look better with tails it has to be said. My brindle boy is 11 and a half. (but hes poorly and might not survive til christmas...=/) These dogs are great family pets and excellent with children. (:

But he was old, skinny, (because he ws getting picky with food, half the time we had to hand feed him and he'd 99% of the time spit it out. But it just wasn't fair on him or us. We were only keeping him for ourselves. But the vets said we did the right thing. =( I miss him every day.

Trainers need to make training FUN for a boxer; they are going to get bored repeating the same behaviors over and over unless the trainer spices up the training session. You would be surprised how quickly a boxer can learn if you make it a game and up the reward to something they really want.

Boxers have an amazing social intelligence. I don't know if any dog is as capable at reading it's owner's emotions and facial expressions as well as a boxer. They also have an amazing ability to express themselves and get exactly what they want. I'm not sure if any particular breed is significantly smarter or dumber than any other breed since they are all the same species of animal, but the boxer can definitely not be called dumb. Goofy and clown like yes. They are wonderful. I've had two.

By the way if you ever get a chance to see a Boxer in action (home protection or home defense) geez. Much faster than the German Shepard and the bite is about 100lbs psi stronger than the German. As far a life span, 8-10 years, however my neighbor has had hers for about 15 years.

We have a Boxer, she is 11 years old. We love our boxer more than words can express, she has been a great dog to our three children as they were growing up. We know she has surpassed her life expectency which we credit to all the love we have given and she has returned. I agree. I hate the fact that it's still the practice to do that in America. Disfiguring your dog for cosmetic reasons is just wrong. I love the look of natural ears and tail. The dog is able to communicate and express himself more this way. When you butcher up the ears and lop of the tail, you're removing a lot of his ability to show his emotions to you.

Cripple? You don't know why they originally did cropping- do you? By cropping and posting the ears, you effectively open the ear canal. The procedure improves the dogs sound localization dramatically- almost like "super hearing," it can be very important for police work. Why don't you learn about these things before making it obvious that you don't know what you're talking about.

Because its not very good at it. :< All flatnose dogs, even strong boxers got no stamina. Thats allso why i dont believe they could bullbait, they would die of breathproblems before the bull got exsausted.

That is wrong! The reason Boxers has a flatnose, is because they could hold on to it`s prey, for a long period of time.

I have owned many breeds of dogs and my Boxer was by far the most athletic and exceptionally intelligent. He would go on 20 mile Mountain bike rides ( in the mountains - not on the local walk ways ) and never had any issues with endurance. Oh and he had long ears as they should... Boxers are the best!

wen you have the time to pull your red-neck head out of you hill-billy ass and maybe search on wkipedia maybe? you will learn that ALL bullbaiting dogs going back to the 16th and 17th cent. ARE "flatnose" has you call it, the real name for it is short muzzle, btw. all molosser tipe dog breads nowadays like boxers, rots, bull dogs, mastiff's etc etc decend from short muzzled breds that WERE bullbaiters so learn something before you open your ass to fart ridiculous shit in the internet.
