This song has great personal value to me as I have always been considered "the dark horse". Don't forget people, if you are too? The dark horse comes out from behind and surprises everyone to win the race. Keep the faith.
I've always favored George for the man he was, his spirituality, and humanity.
Many years ago, while listening to this song, I was contemplating an e-mail address.
So I typed in DarkHorse, and the rest, and to my surprise, it was available.
George was the "Dark Horse,' with the Beatles, and maybe that was a statement he put across, because as many of George's fans know, he named his post Beatle record company Dark Horse.
cant believe people really give a shit about a rasppy voice, dont sound like anyone else i know so thats bad ass in general, if ur gunna judge, then judge wat is chosen not wat cant be changed
my favorite beatle- the youngest. he sounds a bit strangled here ... he was losing his voice. at the time joe cocker was popular so he recorded this not caring about the real health issue. it's like growing up near the beach and not knowing about skin cancer--- you must have a tan.
George was suffering from laryngitis during the recording of Dark Horse, then had to go out on the ensuring "Dark Horse" tour without much relief. The tour was kiddingly called "Dark Hoarse" and was given a lot of negative reviews. I believe it was the last time George toured in the US.
@RayNDeere i had heard about that, but i didn't expect him to sound quite like this... the first time i heard "dark horse" i was riding in the car w/ my dad when he said, "wait a minute- yeah, this IS..." "what?" "this is george harrison!" "what?" "listen" when i heard the words "dark horse" in the refrain, i immediately knew it was him. i'm not saying my comment to make fun of him or anything jsyk. i was just surprised the first time i heard it
Happy Times.

I won a dark horse labelled album from a radio station around 1979 - it had a nice soulful/funk sound to it.

@RayNDeere I think the laryngitis helps on this track, it makes his voice more raspy.

@grevejp44 I agree. It gives it that gritty feel that makes the song great.
