  • Nicely done!

  • My favorite game ever

  • Joe and Elway are classic competitors. Both are Legends. Elway just took longer to develop. Joe was always awesome. But John made it up in the end to prove he belonged as well.

  • Legends never die, Joe Montana was my idol when I first started watching football in 1987 in that small farming town 100 miles south of San Francisco and he's still my idol now.And John Elway still holds the NFL record for the player to look most like his team's mascot.

  • should be montana vs favre.

  • The thing that puts Montana ahead of Elway is that he played his best during the Super Bowls. If you closely watch all of John Elway"s first 3 appearances in the Superbowl, he played like an average QB. Joe Played like he belonged there - No INT's in 4 games. In SBXXIV, The Niners went up against the #1 Defense in the NFL (Broncos) and put up 55 points on them. I am not throwing Elway under the bus, but in order to achieve the Title of the Greatest, you can't make mistakes in the Super Bowl.

  • john elway will always be one of the greatest qbs to play the game.....joe will always be the master

  • this is the first game I remember watching. It made me a football fan for a while, stopped watching years ago. Still admire Joe Montana's poise

  • John elway made the broncos (a sub-par team year in year out) a contendor... a la peyton manning's colts. montana had a cake setup personnal-wise with a beautiful system with uncapped and bigger-city-spending. thats why montana made KC legit when he got there, he just didnt have the weapons around him. conclusion: montana = possibly greatest ever. elway = possibly greatest ever

  • not at all. elway had the most potential as qb hands down with physical and mental ability. he had a sub-par owner who's overrated (pat bowlen) who only gets respect because he landed john elway,WHAT HAS HE DONE SINCE?

  • Elway is still drooling to be Montana. The Chiefs owned the Bronchettes that night.

  • Just think if Elway had the 49rs team. He would have more rings that Joe. Elway single handedly took teams to the Superbowl that shouldn't have even been there. Elway is the G.O.A.T.

  • Greatest MNF game ever. Was not a fan of either team, but this game was an instant classic. Two HOFers going toe to toe and the best QB actually won.

  • elway is better

  • thats ludicrous and simply not true

  • montana was 1000000000000000000 times better than elway

  • I am 30 and have been watching MNF since I was 12... this (to me) is the best game I have ever seen on Monday Night.

  • Montana may have been the better QB that night but you can argue that Elway was the greatest of them all !!

  • @ThatOneGuyOnYT no you cant argue that because its not true.

  • @skoolsucks911 Its a great debate ! I think though theres no debate that this game was the best of the Monday Night Football games ever.

  • This was a much better game than the 89' super Bowl. I was at this Monday Night game.

  • you forgot the superbowl

  • Montana may have been the only QB who could run the 2:00 offense better than Elway.

  • Two of the greatest competitor's of all time

  • Elway the best!!!!

  • I know its about Championships ultimately. I just feel that the joy i got from watching that fool play year in and out. Seein that greatness over and over again to me far outways feeling awful on 3 separate Sundays because we lost the big one. ANd we got two now. Im happy. lol

  • What kills me is that if you look at a list of greatest qbs on the web theyll have Elway at no 10. I can understand he gets blamed for playing poorly in 3 superbowls but he still did get to 5! And without a strong supporting cast and running game along with Dan Reeves old old style of football that Elway was trapped playing in and Reeves refused to get rid of, its just not fair to blame Elway for playing crappy in 3 super bowls. Oh well, lol. Id be happy if they put him in the top 5 at least.

  • @AbsintheColour I agree completely and Elway beat Brett , the most overrrated Qb in history

  • or should i say, among the greatest to ever play, im not sure you can really say whos the better. Montana did win 4 though and you have to respect that. I just cant help but feel that if Elways broncos had a great running game to balance out the pass, he woulda come up with more than two superbowls. His last two. excellent running game. Its one thing that hasnt changed in the NFL. A championship team needs to have a strong running game to balance their pass period.

  • I would never degrade Joe. I simply believe it is a team sport and as much as the qb is relied upon and the most important position. There are MANY factors that are included in composing a winning effort. one example, superbowl, GB vs NE Desmond Howard returns a kick off for a td at pivotal time in game..along with his speed and instinct, it took two step up blocks from 4 guys creating a pocket as a team, and two outside blocks along with another players hussleto oust the kicker to make it work

  • see how quick he hit Marcus on the screen pass. Put the ball in front leading him up field. Nuances of a great QB

  • Elway is the G.O.A.T.

  • @scottie2333 HAHA!

  • @scottie2333 Elway was great but Cool Joe is the GOAT . $ rings 4 . I know he had Lott and Jerry, Craig and a dozen other All pro's on his team last but most important Bill Walsh . Elway had Attwater and at least as many All pros on his teams too, so call it even except the Rings. Don't forget what Montana lead 9ers did to the Broncos when they met in the SB. I love Elway Bay area,Stanford, roots but he didn't out duel Joe ever

  • didnt hurt Montana had probably one of the 4 smartest coaches ever to be in the game and help develope him at his entry into the league when he was at his most vulnerable..a rookie QB in the NFL. The Chiefs game? I watched it too. Could have gone either way. Somebody had to win.

  • @AbsintheColour somebody had to win? have you ever seen a tie? I like your absinthecolour title it says you don't judge team colors or race, but I've got to give you a dose of reality . those 2 men Joe & John were all about winning and when Joes team beat Johns for a second X in a big game it wasn't about coaches it was about 2 QB's going at it. Don't demean Montana's greatness by inferring he had better coaching so that's why his teams beat John Elway lead Bronco's .

  • @tellthetruthg No offense taken really. Even though i dont completely agree, i appreciate the response man.

  • @AbsintheColour Good deal I'm not into offending people to prove a point. It's all Apples or Oranges. Just curios , who is your GOAT QB? Quick side note. I'm a second generation Niner Faithful so when the Walsh, Montana, Lott lead 49ers won the SB Montana's Picture went up at my mom's home in Oakland Ca. Jesus , the Pope, JFK, MLK and Joe.

  • @tellthetruthg 49ers are the first team i ever saw play as a child. I grew up half my life in the san fran area but over sacramento way. My grandpa was a fan and had em on the television. I hadnt started lovin the game at that point though. Was lucky enough to just happen to turn on the tv one sunday and it just so happened that it was the famous 'drive' by elway against the browns in the afc champ gm. black n white tv. saw the horse on helmet and started rootin for broncos. been fan ever since

  • @AbsintheColour I like the way you write and state your points. I concede Elway was more gifted with arm strength and ran faster was a bigger stronger than Joe. I do miss them both I don't think any of today's QB's know how to play the game as well as they played. Good kicking with you. May Aaron Rodgers will play his way into their level one day. Go GB

  • @tellthetruthg Well, thats really cool man. Thanks. Its a testament to Montanas greatness that minus the gifted body he was and is probably still the greatest to play the game at qb. As much as I love Elway, I cant really put him above Joe Cool either. Id like to think that at a certain point of greatness its just greatness but who knows. Joe had the coolest head on his shoulders and played with such calm cool steady awareness its amazing! Never seen nothing like that either before or since. ;^)

  • @tellthetruthg Yeah, Go Packers! I just cat root for the steelers cause that whole franchise at this time is a joke to me. Nothing against Steelers before this but i just cant even like a guy like Ben R. And i heard some of his teammates where there helpin him when he pulled that low crap in that bar. Dont know for sure. Why anybody is still in his corner baffles me man. Screw the Steelers.

  • @tellthetruthg GOAT? thats a tough one. I think Montana has every right to have his name thrown in the mix with a small handful of others to be considered the greatest. I just watched Elways greatness come out way too many times growin up to pick against him. Most amazing player ive ever witnessed. My opinion. Prob because i happened to follow his career the most and didnt keep up as much with Montana. At a certain level, i cant help but feel nobody is the greatest and it becomes whos ones fav.

  • @tellthetruthg I liked the 49ers first cause my dad lived in the area but started really diggin the game a few years later because of the broncs lol. Hey, I used to have a poster of the 49ers vs Dolphins Super Bowl on my wall back in the mid 80s as a kid. and it was of the end of the game and had Walsh on the teams shoulders as they carryin him off the field his hand in the air. probably the coolest sports poster i ever had. Mad respect to Montana..Cool Joe

  • I remember watching this game, and I will never forget it, even though nobody I talk to seems to remember it. Elway did his 2-minute drill like he always does, but he made one mistake. He left too much time on the clock for Montana. Montana had somewhere like a minute to score a touchdown, and he did just that. Mind you he did it with the Chiefs, not the 49'rs. And he was in the twilight of his career, where Elway was still in his prime. Montana is the master! Smartest QB to play the game.

  • I remember Elway celebrating and I'm thinking buddy, you gave Montana a minute.

  • @waldonewman My friend, I remember watching this game and memorable drive. There is no doubt Montana is one, if not the greatest quarterback to play the game. Tied with Bradshaw with four Superbowl wins, I would pick Montana over Brady and Bradshaw as my starting quarterback without thinking twice.

  • maybe Montana was better. iTs such a hard call. lol. I think he definately had the help of Walshs innovative and genius coaching attack. Elway was stuck in the ice age with Reeves not utilizing him or the offense in the most productive tailored way to Elways strengths...

  • again, at the risk of pissing you off. sorry dude. Elway is a childhood hero of mine. I think maybe also what it boils down to is that maybe while you were witnessing Montanas greatness game in and out I was watching Elways games. I probably watched about at least 80 percent of Elways career and have just seen so much wonder from him..While i loved Montana, i didnt watch much of his career as im guessin maybe you did...i dont know..i do know this..I really miss them both n wish they still played

  • lol, rambling on like crazy ha..If you watch college footage of them both...Elways was insanely faster than Montana, His arm was like a missle launcher.he was more explosive. Truth is though, winning is the main point and Montana was able to do that more when it counted in the Superbowl. So everything i say could be true but ultimately you want to win the game right? lol. For that i blame Reeves. lmao. plus i watched the 49er Bronco SB n SF had much more talent..so i think it glares in my mind.

  • comparative to walsh, Reeves was a crap coach. lets put it that way. Also, lol, Elways could be counted on to come back in a game from behind every bit as good as Montana..

  • The Greatest Monday nite football EVER played!

  • ....la differenza non sta nei superbowl vinti.....

montana poteva giocare anche su giove e senza ossigeno......

  • Totally awesome. My favorite NFL/KC Chiefs moment. What is the music? Great stuff.

  • Montana over Elway all day every day! 4 SB rings to 2!

  • @madrecka yeah, too bad nobody takes into account that Montana had a miraculous offense surrounding him while Elway had only a fairly good offense surrounding him.

  • @AbsintheColour For the first 2 Super Bowl wins for the 49ers, Montana didn't have Rice,Taylor nor Craig; he had Solomon,Clark, Ring and Cooper. No excuse.

In this game in '94 Montana didn't have Sharpe and still he outplayed Elway. Elway is a Hall of Famer though no doubt. I'll go with Montana though.

  • @madrecka Well, you win and you lose. I can respect your feelings about Montana. He is one of the coolest headed and best QBs I have ever witnessed. I'll go with Elway.. He could throw across the field 70 yards while scrambling and hit the ball right into a drive thru window. WR would have x marks all over their arms. He could scramble beyond belief always knowing if somebody was behind him like he had eyes in the back of his head. I think Elway was better. Unlike walsh, reeves was a crap coach

  • @madrecka Also, Elway could complete impossible passes that i dont believe Montana could. Montana had a high percentage short passing game. little 5 yard slants, outs, and ins..Nothing wrong with that! lol. I love Montana! Elway could just make throws that if Montana that i dont feel Montana could make..Honestly though, I think in these cases its all subjective. Both were so great that i dont think you can really say one was universally better than the other. If i had to pick though, id take Elw
