The sad truth is that a lot of teachers are not born in the us because immigrants often come to the us with a higher education than your average american , and with a knowledge of the english language much greater than the so called " US born english speakers". There is more to the english language ,its vocabulary ,syntax,grammar and all other dimensions of a language than any US high school student gathers.The funny part is that this law was probably conceived by someone who says "nucular" .

Gulen has 122 charter schools across the country. He is worth 25 billion dollars. Tom was paid to look the other way when it comes to his own law. Sonoran Science Academy is now looking for ESL teachers from Turkey.

It's not the accents, its the teachers who cannot speak proper English. American children are illiterate enough, do we really need teachers who cannot enunciate properly teaching them? With that being said, everyone has some type of accent, the news skewed this out of control, listen to the superintendant, he specifically said that he wants to get rid of teachers who cannot speak proper English, what you hear is what you repeat!

They are talking about accents such as Indian or Chinese that are difficult to understand. They aren't targetting slight accents or regional accents. Employers do not want to hire those who speak non standard or ungrammatical English for valid business reasons; therefore, teachers should speak and teach standard grammatical English, so that their students may have more opportunities.

I live in New York for 12 years, and I speak English with a New York-South American accent. Last time I was in Wisconsin and Illinois they saw I am Spanish and I that lived in NYC because of my accent. My point is everybody has an accent, and here in the U.S. many think they have no accents at all. My favorite accent is Alabama's. (Watch Forrest Gump)

I would honestly agree with this if it wasn't for all the other heat coming out of Arizona. This is obviously not about the best interests of the children (face it, a teacher who can't communicate effectively with their students isnt a very good teacher) but rather its all about pushing their biased and hateful agenda....

@ChedWick05 This isn't about teaching multi-lingual children -- it is about NOT teaching multi-lingual children, and it is about driving Hispanics out of the school system and out of the state. Arizona also just passed a law banning the teaching of ethnic studies or ethnic pride and solidarity. The White majority is looking for ways to preserve their position of privilege in Arizona, and they don't really care how they do it.

I honestly think a concerned parent started all of this which led up to this point, because a proper white child's mother was probably seeing that the kid wasn't doing too well in english class and was looking at the teacher and ranted on, on how the teachers should be white and such bull like that. But then again I don't live in the states so I don't really know how it is there and how stuff rolls around there.
