In regard to, but not in response to, Sagashilindustries' comment, I suppose that there is no REAL main theme for this game, because there isn't really much to the opening theme, and the castle theme? That would be a fail main theme. It's a nice tune, but it's just not... "Main theme."

i know what you mean. I try to stay close to the names of the original soundtrack of super mario 64.

I guess they call this the main theme because this tune is completely associated with super mario 64 and no other game, like delfino plaze is for sunshine. Inside the castle walls is too repetitve and the title screen is mario bros theme remix with lots of percussion.
