Just curious. So you can't interact with other avatars right? Also, if you have a tamp or perm ban on your account, will you still be able to acess it?
Only if someone else is logging on to your server, you could interact with him/her. :) But your server will not be connected to the Second Life grid. It will basically be a "stand-alone Second Life" at home.
That's why I'm using D-GiG mainly for testing, especially new textures (since uploads are free too, of course).
I'm confused, is this like a real functional free sim!??!?!!!!!!! THAT IS FRIGGIN AWESSSUMM. If it was, i'd totally use it, instead of paying 300 bucks.
Questions? Can I still use the Second Life viewer (browser, whatever its called) to go to another grid? And in a practical way, how will this work? By Teleporting, Star Gates, etc. or are the grids completely separate?
The Second Life viewer can be used for both, SL and D-GiG alternately (using the normal SL icon on the desktop plus a new D-GiG icon as shown in my video).
The two grids are separate - by default D-GiG is running in your local home network only. There is no direct exchange of objects, money or teleporting between the two grids. But D-GiG is still very useful (i.e. for testing) and fun.
too bad this won't link up with SL, reaaalllyyyy wish it did. Can't LL drop prices for sims!? I mean geze, 200 bucks USD amonth for a full region? little steep
Ok hey im Callum Bobak from second life and want to get a free sim like all of us. But i heard this one is one this thing ur showing us. I have downloaded D-GIG and got it running but it stops at -bash3.1$. I bridges all the connections like it says in loads of other things like this but what ever i do i can not get on the setup page. Tryed all waht you do nothing works! Please help ASAP! I am tearing my hair out lol here in fustration about it!
Yes, you can run your own private Second Life server at home. Even go public with it. And it's completely legal. Maybe you've heard of the OpenSim project already, the public open source version of the Second Life server software. Magrathean's D-GiG is based on OpenSim.
Other projects like OpenLife are using the same server software, btw.
The song is "life is sweet", a Daft Punk remix of Chemical Brothers (see end credits).
Pe hi its Pi Parkin from sl, im really interestied in gettin a sim online in sl..wondered if you could IM me in sl at some point so i could maybe get some tips? cheers Pi
So if I got one of these sims then I wouldn't be able to tp my friends to it or anything?

true. i agree. it would be nice having some "universal grid" with all kinds of SIMs united. not many people can afford a full Linden-SIM.

and with the price increase on open spaces...man.....

Dang. I was hoping it would get you the sim in the real Second Life. :(
But hell, what a shame. Also, nice video, you've prbably helped a ton of people who want to practice their land terrain skills. ;)

DUDE!
Tell me the name of that song!
Also, is this like having a private server?
Is it legally?

Woah, thanks! :)
I am so going to try stuff on a little private server :D

How exciting! I can't wait to try this. Now if I can just get my SL TO DO list reduced fare enough to try. Grin.

True, true. Always much to do in SL. :))
In case you find time to test it: have fun!
D-GiG is not perfect (still alpha mode, I believe). So it crashes as much as the real SL. But it's still worth a try.
