Gerry Brownlee used to "teach" us at high school... before he got into politics and got famous. I say "teach" because he sat in his office and slacked off talking on the phone every single lesson for like three years I went to school there. Biggest slack arse teacher ever. Absolutely hysterical and SO true!!!! It's exactly how we all feel - all of our families in a city with no CBD, liquifaction everywhere and constant shaking!!! The best video on Youtube!!!!
Liquefaction is a process not the result. When you say "blah blah liquefaction on their feet" Its like saying "compaction of soil particles resulting in the movement of water towards the surface, bringing with it silt sized particles.... on their feet" But other than that cool vid
Technically you are correct, but people whining about this are going to have to give up soon. The word 'liquefaction' has entered common usage with a different meaning, and it's just a matter of time before the new meaning is going to have to be entered into the dictionaries - at least in NZ.
It's a good word, and I'm not going to stop using it to refer to this bloody silt/mud/whatever! Nobody seems to be able to give it a better name, so 'liquefaction' covers it pretty well.
well i can see this from 2 diifferent ways! as a person that was in the cbd when the quake hit.. i find it to be disrespectful taking the piss out of it because so many people died BUT at the same time i look at the funny side of everything and cant stop laughing at this hahaha good work mate
@n0cturnalsoldier Thanks for your comments. It's a truly horrific time none of us will ever forget. Some of those lost were known to me, but I personally would like to look back and remember how we all kept our sense of humour and just got on with things for the sake of our children who will help to grow Christchurch into the future. I also like to think some of those no longer with us wouldn't want it any other way here in their and our beautiful city.
Every so often, we need a bit of a laugh to take our mind of things. I see "Meet The Muntstones" as a bit of lightheartedness. But humour being a very personal thing, some folk may take it the wrong way - especially if your place has been hit by the new shocks, just recently, and your grounds are covered (again) in liquifaction.
I think this is meant in a respectful way, though. And if anything, it's serves to remind us that Christchurch still needs our help...
@Kiwifrank Thanks for your comments. My own home was "red stickered" in Februrary and I have no idea whether they plan to repair, rebuild or demolish. The temporary accommodation I have my family in has been compromised somewhat by the recent aftershocks. I think the number of positive comments and "likes" here show that many here in Christchurch share my own sense of humour coping mechanism.
@MisterBarneyRubble Ahaha yes indeed. Perhaps we should do a costumed version of the video - I can just imagine the little feet underneath a cardboard 'red bus' =P
It's great, I also loved the very creative Fraction Liquefaction by TeamReynolds. Shouldn't all this great talent be harnessed for a winter quake show, imagine this live to a background of quake scenes/
After a very traumatic week, that was awesome to laugh at. Very clever and thanks for keeping us laughing...what else can you do at this point! :) xxxx
Please show everyone you know this video, send it viral and prove to our Wellington based politicians and to the world that Christchurch people still know how to laugh!
FYI Liquefaction is a process. The mud has undergone liquefaction. It is not liquefaction. Little factoid for ya.
