Leo Is somebody in there? Mary Yes sir me and Iola ( girls giggle) Leo Your break was over 10 minutes ago Mary Uh Iola took sick ( girls giggle) Leo She looks alright to me Iola I'm a little better now ( girls giggle) Leo Go back to work plz Mr Montag doesn't pay you to doodle away the day
It's amazing to think this guy is now playing Miss Trunchbull in Matilda, and is equally amazing and realistic in that as he is here. Bertie Carvel is INCREDIBLE.
i find it sad that the top comments on this song don't understand what they're talking about. i hear no southern accent. and yeah he pushes quite a bit. but its part of the greatness of it. straining and pushing can really put emotion into a song. im sure he could hit those notes without it, but it gives him a powerful, emotional feel. healthy singing isnt always the best. listen to any rock song
i have been looking into NIDA and but im going in 2 years...that was the song that i would choose. isnt it amazingg!!! either this or I've Been from Next to Normal.. it is an extremely hard song to hit those long notes perfect isnt it haha
@trebor1051--I was in this show as well, and I don't know what you mean by mixing the jewish and the southern accent, Leo Frank had no Southern accent. One of the main points of the play was to illustrate the deep differences between Leo and the southerners that surrounded him (see: "How Can I Call This Home?"). He was from Brooklyn and had an accent as such, if he even had one at all.
T.R. Knight as Leo Frank is AMAZING! He blew me away the first time I saw the show currently running at the Taper. He still blows me away. He's FABULOUS! If in the L.A. area go to the Taper to see it. You won't be disappointed as it's a first rate cast! :)
I'm not sure how I feel about this.. them trying to the accents makes them sounds a little spread and nasal..which is different than an American accent..
eh...after listening to brent carver's version for so long, i don't know i'll ever be able to enjoy anyone else singing this song. he's simply too amazing in it.
good. but its just missing something. Oh yeah the brilliance that is Brent Carver. he was absolutely genius in thisevery little qwerk every litle inflection! AHHHHH
totally agree, it was the best peice of theatre i have ever seen, ( ive watched a hell of a lot) Mr carver was outstanding and miss pulver was just a pleasure to watch. listen to her belt at (3.25)so clear . Brents overall performance was stupendus , i love to talk about this all day , love to see it again!!!!!! bravooooooooo !!!!!
i was lucky enough to see Parade during its annoyingly short run and it was absoloutley phenominal, one of the most breathtaking pieces of theatre iv seen for many months, and Bertie Carvel and Lara Pulver were just sublime. I cannot wait to buy the London cast recording!

@demonicdood The best part is, he's not even supposed to have a Southern accent :P He's a Jewish New Yorker that moves to the South.
And unhealthy singing in great moderation.

freaking brilliant. NO tension in his voice AT all. no pushing, brilliantly connected to his emotion, SUPER healthy singing. well freaking done.

@logues85 no tension? I hear quite a bit of tension, actually... but it doesn't screw up his performance. He's great.

gotta think that it's a jewish southern american accent.
mixing the two is very hard, from doing this show before.
listen to him on 2.29, the emphasis on 'coming'.
shows his jewish accent showing through aswell.
and i think this actor is incredibly talented for doing it.

I prefer the Carver version...
But I like the orchestration in an odd way- it has a train feel to it. It's interesting.

What IS it about this show that people don't like? I know it's not the most brightest and happiests of all musicals, but the MUSIC! The MUSIC!
p.s. I love the way he cracks in this song different from the original.
