The japenese need to stop the killing of whales like their near extinction you cant just smash a boat this only proves you are angry that you cant sell your whales, there is no-one inforcing the INTERNATIONAL LAW out there and i dont blame the Sea Shepards for taking the nets off and going on board i would too.
if only the sea shepherd terrorists would pursue this very important matter in a diplomatic matter instead of continually resorting to extremest actions. they are losing the support of the australian and international public and do not further their aims in the same way that the terrorists of 911 did not further the muslim cause.
@saintmono They HAVE been asked & diplomatically spoken to by many groups/ppl, pleading them to stop & presented them w/reason--in a civil manner! They refused to consider or compromise. That's why they resorted to these extreme actions. This gets the word out! It gets more ppl involved--to use their voice! If words continue to fail, the whalers will continue to lose money by the Shepherd's actions. The goal is to end the whale killing & they're doing what works best to accomplish it.
@monsterdrinker95 :( Very sad. I heard that 5 million dollars was donated to making a new & improved one though! I am thankful that none of the Shepherd crew was destroyed with it.
Thanks for that good news! I hope the sailors who will work on her will stay safe, and be successful in embarrassing Japan to change her ways in this issue.
At most the Ady was idling forward, but it's fundamentally illogical to say that that made the accident the Ady's fault, watch the whaler in the several seconds preceding impact, you will see it list hard to port, that's because it is turning hard to starboard right into the Ady. And like I said before, it doesn't even matter if the Ady were moving because even then it would have had the right of way.
The Ady absolutely had right of way, a stationary vessel ALWAYS has right of way. Furthermore, the whaler turned to starboard, hit the Ady and then turned back. As if that were not enough, even if the Ady were moving it would still have had the right of way because it was off the starboard side of the whaler. I don't even know how it's possible to come to the conclusion that it was not the Japaneses' fault, it's not even negligence, it was malicious.
@Sholtzie You're allowing your bias to cloud your judgment of the reality on the video in front of you. The morons in the Ady Gil hit the gas as the Japanese vessel got closer, ensuring the Ady Gil would smash into the bow. It's not a stationary vessel.
"topbloke" there was no gunning of the ady gil's motors, the simple way to tell is by looking at it's speed compared to the shonan. it looked to me like the captain shit himself and tried to move but realized he couldn't
WRONG, the Ady Gil had engine problems, so you're BS of them moving in the way is simply impossible, that ship made a 40 degree turn to hit a ship that wasn't even moving.
how dare anyone suggest the agy gil would intentionally try to get rammed-the captain pete had the boat 4 years and was in love with it-hes not an idiot, he knows its capabitlities and would never risk the lives of his crew-shame on you if you think he would!!!!!
How do we dare? "Captain" Paul Watson is crazy. Ramming other vessels have been a well known strategy from him. I don't know why the Japanese vessel yawed, could just as well be normal movement in the waves, as an intentional manoeuvre! What, however, is not to be doubted is that the Ady Gil increased it's speed forward the last 25-30 seconds before impact. This means that the SS explanation, that they tried everything to avoid collision, is utter bollocks. Brgds, Glenn, navigator.
keep in mind the point of views of the cameras, ie the larger footage, if its moving perpendicular to the shot then it will look like the ship is turning, but given the distance the ship would have to be movin fast. So call me whatever u want its just something to keep in mind
That is video clearly shows the Ady Gil accelerating to get rammed by that large vessel. Why would they want to get rammed like that? Oh I know, getting sunk makes for good video. Thanks for posting.
There is NO DOUBT the Japanese ship changed course TOWARD the Ady Gil!
Moreover, on several vids I have faved to my page, it is clear that the whalers always seem to retaliate against protest boats by firing powerful WATER CANONS right at the protesters.
Commercial whaling is a disgrace in this age.
I am glad the AG crew survived and I HOPE this will bring attention to the fact that "factory farming" of whales is poorly regulated.
If we had buffalo today, would we still slaughter?
So lame that the Japanese keep whaling. The fact that they paint "research" on the side of their whaling ships is proof they know they're breaking the law.
Law of gross tonnage at work. And anyone who thinks the Ady was standon, go back to the COLREGS and see what it says about an overtaking vessel changing its status from giveway to standon.
It was just a matter of time before something like this was going to happen and it wouldnt surprise me, unless this stops, that it will end with people getting killed.
Look at the orientation of the Ady Gil. At first it is pointing right, then seems to turn pointing more towards the camera. This is because the Bob Barker is moving forward.
Look how the Shonan rolls. Like a cyclist it rolls in the direction of the turn.
The Ady Gil was towing a rope to entangle the Shonan's propellor. (See inset video close up). This is taught showing the boat's going forward.
@dudelh2 the word is 'racist' moron. Learn to spell before posting. It is the whales who are terrorised by the Japanese whalers. They die slow, painful deaths on the end of an explosive harpoon.
Yeh people keep saying they excellerated into the shanan but the ady gil was trying to reverse and stop itselfs from smashing into shanan.... so annoying when people stick up for the shanan

The japanese have already made great steps in making the blue-fin tuna extinct, and I think all countries should work together to stop the whaling.
But no, the spineless leaders of the world making a difference? Only in a utopia.

what happens to the whales when they are caught?? do they eat the meat?? make stuff with them or what???
pTfran13 2 years ago
Yes, at least they do eat it. (See whale meat video at my channel page.) But unfortunately, this seems to be what drives the demand.
Japan is apparently the only country that hunts whale outside of its own waters - and they take them by the hundreds.

Sorry, but looks to me like the Ady Gil intentionally got in the ship's way. Oh, but I guess that was the point, wasn't it.

If two ships want to crash into each other, they will. The German saying for this is : "... bis einer heult" ([playing hard]... until someone cries).
I would like to see Ady being the good guys. The vision is right. I don't want a martyr for this fight. At least not proliberately.
Ady's wreck made it into world press without martyrs: mission accomplished.

looks like the shonan turned to a collision course, a few 100 yrds from the ady gil.
Seems the ady gil's capt. started making head way across the shanon's bow, in answer to the shonan's course change to collision.
then i see a course change by the shonan capt, at the point of no return into the bow of the ady gil.
