I was starting to think that he wasn't trying very hard but he just needed to warm up (in my opinion) the 2nd best rock voice ever. I feel that Layne Staley of Alice in Chains takes top honors, and I put Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam at 3rd (he lost points for letting politics get in the way of his music). For 4th and 5th, I have Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. It's cool when the younger generation checks out what was "cool" before their time so check it out kids!
