@roadend78 That is a very interesting subject I'd like to look into. Given Liverpool's proximity to North Wales, which largely is the real old Wales, combined with the way Liverpudlians have the Celtic phelgmy sound on the 'k' sounds, just like the Welsh, being south of what originally was the Cumbric Celts, also the symbol on the Liverpool FC crest which looks alot like the Welsh Dragon to a degree and in the same colour; and they do have their own seperate culture to a degree. Forgotten celts
I notice that among this 6 Celtic nations only Ireland and Brittanny are Catholic. The 4 others lands are more Protestant.
This recent song in a Celtic language (Breton) was number 1 in French Charts during 3 weeks, she sold 200 thousands cd in France, you can see the clip here : watch?v=jTuBnZrLbq0
@Tomacomo The best you can do is take a real interest and learn one of the languages and spread the word you would be surprised by how many don't even know languages like Welsh and Irish exist.
Serbia supports all celtic movements, even we have some celtic origin, serbs are about 20% celtic( , our belgrade was founded by celtic and it name was Sindidun, whole modern serbia is built on former celtic kingdom.
Freedom to all celtic people from Anglo-Frankish oppresors!!!
@StellandBlood France out of Normandy. And may the fucking Bretons stop trying to steal the Mont and keep their dirty hands for themselves, the Mont is ours period. Britain/Scotland out of Shetland and the Hebrides who are VIKING!
Like a good Norman a descendant of Vikings I fuck France and Brittany.
u guys need to get over the fact that the celts are gone, died when the roman's owned them, genetically your probs not even "celt", yeah so the celts ONCE had alot of land, but then so did neolithic people, but there was never any celtic "nations" only tribes. Seriously nothing winds me up more than separatists particularly here in britian cant see beyond there narrow vision of the end of their street ffs and see the bigger picture and the bigger nation. Get over yourself and stop winging.
The idea that an ethnic celtic league still exists in the modern world is completely preposterous. The inhabitants of the British isles are genetically made up from celts, saxons, Romans, norse and more recently, afro-carribean and asian origin. No one is 100% celtic. Just like England isn't 100% saxon. What about the Iceni, A CELTIC TRIBE, that occupied Eastern England? Are they to be ignored because they are "more English"?
So after all that the people who lived there weren't Celts. They were a mix of Celts, Romans, Germanic tribesman and later there were more invasions. Ireland luckily never had to live under the Romans nor were they invaded by the Germanic tribes, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, The Isle of Man, and Brittany also either managed to repel the invasions or they learned how to get along under the circumstances without being absorbed or extincted.
@monkeyapplenerd the germanic tribes were held back by the pict warroirs in scotland. merged with the gael tribes from ireland, thus the kingdom of alba was born, one major battle against the germanic was helped by the mighty norseman
@monkeyapplenerd England(Brython) is a mixed architectural Celtic nation.
Their are much more Celtic relics through, just look at Holy Island,Cumberland,Westmoreland,Wigan,Bradbury castle,Devon the list goes on of places in Britain that have deep Celtic roots/architecture.
@samluke8121 Ok for the last time this is about modern Celtic nations not past ones. Architecture and archeology does not make England a Celtic nation. Think about that is Italy a Roman nation, is Mexico an Aztec nation? No that is their past not their present.
@monkeyapplenerd Well do the Scots,Irish,Welsh live in a Celtic culture now??
They don't even speak Celtic any more for fuckes sakes! The language we are speaking now is west Germanic language introduced by the Anglo Saxons.
I'm sure our Celtic ancestors wouldn't want us to be ruled by the European union run by crouts. All nations have changed socially, secularlarly just look at the rise of Atheism in modern day Britain.
@monkeyapplenerd Continued:Most European nations(except third world countries) are countries of the past. The only thing keeping the identity of these nations alive it's architecture/relics. It is this we must use to really see what the life was like of the native peoples of these isles.
@samluke8121 Ok last time Sam, I do have important things to do today. These nations are Celtic today as in here and now because they have a language, culture, history, sport, and music that is Celtic, England is not, they were a very long time ago but now they are not. This video is not about the ancient past of Europe it is about modern Celtic nations, just accept that.
I don't really get this video; it's just a list of political groups, half of which want to "destroy" the United Kingdom rather than just having more sovereignty (which is disturbing then you realise that ones like the SNP are pro EU. Out of the frying pan and into the fire?)
It's also worrying that such groups cry oppression when they have more sovereignty than England...
@Kyruis Whats not to get here its a list of the remaining Celtic nations of the world who yes have political groups who wish to see them free and independent. And by the way England is top dog in the so called United Kingdom, so you can't complain there. If you don't like England's state of being man change it, lose the queen and the go for a separate nation-state on your own maybe then there would be some goodwill between you Anglos and the Celts.
@samluke8121 The Cumbric language is dead, its been dead for centuries. As for the historical explanation read my two comments here and if that doesn't explain enough do some research you'll see what I mean. England had a Celtic past that isn't in question but they haven't been a Celtic nation for more than a thousand years.
@monkeyapplenerd The Cumbric language is dead, just like the Pictish language.
England(Brython) wasn't a Celtic nation for as long as other British Isles, but it was quickly revived during the Anglo Saxon era when Scottish and Irish monks of the Celtic church converted the Anglo Saxons to the Celtic form of Christianity along with the Celts on England.
@samluke8121 I know Pictish is dead Scots Gaelic replaced it. Being Celtic is not something you can convert to, it is not a religion. Monks converted them to Christianity not "Celticness".
@samluke8121 There were no Celts of England by that point don't you understand. The English who started as Celts had long lost that ethnic and cultural distinction by the time of the Irish monks and their mission to spread Christianity. For god sake take a history course and stop trying to claim England as a Celtic nation its not, just be satisfied with what it is. God its like you have some crazy fear of not being Celtic.
@monkeyapplenerd I am Celtic,my mum is from Northern Ireland and my dad is a English born Scot. It is said that the Celts of England where pushed out to Wales, but the majority of English have Celtic names like Robinson,Thompson,Cunningham,Smith so we are definitely a mix.
@samluke8121 No they didn't I know the history. Sam please take a history class, Ireland dealt with invasions in a good way by keeping there identity and not mixing all that much with the invaders. Normans, Vikings, and possibly a few waterlogged Spaniards is all that ever came into Ireland.
The English have no say in things which don't effect them; the other nations are able to affect laws passed in only England. Whether England is more populous is irrelivent - Especially when one is reminded that London has a noose around all the counties necks.
I can't change England's fate, I am but one man. Nor do I wish to rush into some republic.
There already is goodwill between the countries of Her Majesties realm...
These so-called Celtic Nations you speak of are hardly Celtic at all. The Celts were a nomadic people who roamed a continent without borders. They were pagans, and worshiped many gods and goddesses. They were loosely organized into tribes and clans, not nations. The only thing Celtic about these so-called "Celtic Nations" is their language. But even then, they speak Latin and Germanic languages in these countries more than they speak Celtic. The real Celts are turning over in there graves
As far as I'm aware the Celtic nations are the coutnries/areas of the world in which the celtic culture, language & "race" has survived most intact. That's all it means, and all it's ever meant.
@WildeyedWes The Celts like every other peoples had descendants. The descendants didn't stop being Celts they just moved with the times like everyone else and they responded to foreign invasion and oppression they best they could. And there is more than just language which was preserved, the ancient myths/legends, sports, musical instruments, singing style, and some foods.
@monkeyapplenerd If the descendents of the Celts are Celts, then wouldn't that make most the countries in western Europe "Celtic Nations", and not just the countries you mentioned"? There are descendents of Celts living in France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, and the southern part of Germany. There were Celts living in Europe long before there were any Celts in Ireland and its colonies. Why is Western Europe excluded from the list?
@WildeyedWes I am glad you asked. You see the Roman empire was expansionist and they pushed there way into Gaul and most of the other areas of Europe you mentioned that had Celtic inhabitants. So the Romans killed many and either absorbed the rest or sold them into slavery, along with that while Rome was falling these same areas you mentioned if they had any Celts left were invaded by Germanic Tribes like the Vandals, Goths, Franks, etc.
Sorry, I had not seen the comments below :-) According to "Leabhar Ghabhála Érenn" book, Breogan, a galician celt king, constructed a tower in the city of Brigantia (actualy A Coruña) from which galicians discovered the coast of Ireland. Later, the grandsons of Breogan conquered Ireland. And today, many historians maintain that indeed some of Irish and British celts arrived from the north of the Iberian Peninsula. Greetings!
not a problem, I am just tired of all the what about us comments on this video. I support the Galicians and wish them well and I know they don't have a Celtic language but certainly a Celtic character.
@cosinbrother There is NOTHING Celtic about Galicia or the Asturias... Even the Celti-Iberians were not as Celtic as before tought. Look at yourself you look like typical Iberians. Have some respect for your Iberian origins. Really this is so awkward. NB the bagpipes are not a specific Celtic instrument....
@Anquetil79 ....apart from the ancient celtic melodies, traditions, art that still survives in galicia and asturia today? anyway its only about a culture and music not race? and of course i have respect for germanic, scandinavian, anglo saxon, iberian and all the many others that flows in my blood and what makes britain and europe that is so interesting. we are all mixed, but how far do i go back with the channel...Africa? its just a genre......p.s yes india has bagpipes too. bye.
@cosinbrother What Celtic melodies that have survived? They play bagpipes all over Europe... Name me a specific Celtic traditions in Galicia? Name me the specific art.
The Galicians are Celtic at heart but it's more to do with modern day tourism than reality. They are after all not accepted as a member of the Celtic nations. I can find in my Normandy much more Celtic origins than ever in Galicia yet we are not Celts. Basically to be Celtic you have to speak a Celtic language, period.
@cosinbrother I saw but the fact is Galicia has nothing to do with real Celtic culture, this is not said of malice. The place names of celtic origins are very rare in Galicia. The Galician language has no Celtic vocabulary. The Galicians are Celtic in their hearts but not in reality. Pagpipes are not Celtic and music adopted or similar does not make people Celtic. Us in Normandy have more Scandinavian roots than Galicians have Celtic. We would still not consider us Scandinavians.
@cosinbrother Well I am interested in all cultures. Normandy conquered England in 1066. Wales was also conquered by the Normans. The castles all over England and Wales are Norman. So it's a bit strange you being Welsh but never hearing of the Normans and William the Conqueror. The Celtic roots in Cymru are good and they speak the Brythonic Celtic language there like they do in Brittany as oposite to Gaelic stil spoken in Ireland and Scotland. Kenavo ma paotr like they say in Brittany ;)
@cosinbrother That was a weird answer full of nonsense. Gaelic in Scotland is spoken by less than 50 000 people. In Ireland the number is not so much higer. Everyday speakers of Breton in France and Welsh in the UK exceed 200 000. These are the two countires with the biggest Celtic speaking populations. Galicia has zero. I know all about Viking blood being from Normandy the land of the northmen. My family name Anquetil is of Scandinavian origins. I am still not Scandinavian and you not Celtic.
@cosinbrother Yes us Normans the people who conquered England, Wales, Ireland, Southern Italy, Sicily, Malta, parts of Northern-Africa and Antioch. Yes us Normans who built all the castles found in England, Wales, Ireland and in Scotland who was subdued to us Normans. Yes I class myself as a Norman. You said you were half Welsh....The Welsh language is a Brythonic Celtic language like Breton and not Gaelic. Why are you using a Gaelic and not Brythonic language here?
@cosinbrother You are the one believing Galicians are Celtic and hence not respecting their Romance language and Iberian origins and thus wanting to make them Celtic, something that has nothing to do with reality but all to do with fantasm. Me I'm at ease being Norman.
@cosinbrother What are you 12? We never ignored our Scandinavian origins lol. Normandy litteraly means the land of the Northmen AKA Nordman in Scandinavian AKA land of the Vikings. And our Norman language even if it is a romance language like Galician is FULL of Scandinavian vocabullary. This can not be said of the Galician language who has almost zero Celtic vocabulary. My family name Anquetil is of Scandinavian origins. If Galicians choose to be Indians will it make it true? Nope lol.
@cosinbrother What was xenophobic about what I said? You did not use Welsh only Irish. Start learning Galician the native Romance language of Galicia.
wheres asturias or galicia for that just cuz the celtic language is extinct on they're side they wont include them!!! this is bullcrap and this coming from someone of breton descent
well i haven't but, my guess is they're not here due to the fact that celtic languages are no longer spoken in these territories correct?
still these languages are minority languages, in these "Celtic Nations" not exactly widely understood by most of the population, if it is because of this it still seems rather petty, I'm not trying to be defensive or insult anybody just saying, I love the fact that we're all proud of our celtic ancestry.
no not correct Its not about that, I went by what I knew and at the time what I knew was what most of the world considers Celtic countries. on another note I will just say have you ever heard the quote "a country without a language is a country with out a soul" language is very important. I do support the Galicia and Austiria though, so please don't misunderstand.
I haven't, I know you meant well you're ok in my book but it would be nice for these people to feel included or make them feel welcome, they don't relate to any other places, Asturias feels just like Ireland you might like it.
@billiecorpse91 NOW YOU SEE FAR MORE CELTIC NATION FLAGS WITH GALLICIA AND THE ASTURIE,EVEN THIS YEAR THE CELTIC FESTIVAL IN LORIENT WAS DEDICATED TO GALLICIA,UP THE CELT
well i am of breton descent on my mothers side & I must say culturally speaking asturians & galicians have far more in common with us than wales or cornwall. they sure as hell, feel like family to me.
Thanks for replying . No hard feelings, please don't forget about us Asturians, (I beg of you) we feel a bit left out. Asturias and Galicia are both beautiful countries full of magic and ancient traditions. Thanks for your support.
what are you using to learn? I have to try to teach myself using a basic computer and videos here on YT. Unfortunately I don't think there is an Irish speaker in the entire city I live in.

Take care now.

Greetings from Scandinavia.

wheres asturias or galicia for that just cuz the celtic language is extinct on they're side they wont include them!!! this is bullcrap and this coming from someone of breton descent
billiecorpse91 2 years ago
did you even read the other comments about that? I already talked about that.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
well i haven't but, my guess is they're not here due to the fact that celtic languages are no longer spoken in these territories correct?
still these languages are minority languages, in these "Celtic Nations" not exactly widely understood by most of the population, if it is because of this it still seems rather petty, I'm not trying to be defensive or insult anybody just saying, I love the fact that we're all proud of our celtic ancestry.
billiecorpse91 2 years ago
no not correct Its not about that, I went by what I knew and at the time what I knew was what most of the world considers Celtic countries. on another note I will just say have you ever heard the quote "a country without a language is a country with out a soul" language is very important. I do support the Galicia and Austiria though, so please don't misunderstand.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
I haven't, I know you meant well you're ok in my book but it would be nice for these people to feel included or make them feel welcome, they don't relate to any other places, Asturias feels just like Ireland you might like it.
billiecorpse91 2 years ago
@billiecorpse91 NOW YOU SEE FAR MORE CELTIC NATION FLAGS WITH GALLICIA AND THE ASTURIE,EVEN THIS YEAR THE CELTIC FESTIVAL IN LORIENT WAS DEDICATED TO GALLICIA,UP THE CELT

Thanks for replying . No hard feelings, please don't forget about us Asturians, (I beg of you) we feel a bit left out. Asturias and Galicia are both beautiful countries full of magic and ancient traditions. Thanks for your support.

I'm Sorry but Asturias is also a Celtic Country, the same as Galicia (both in north Spain)
susana681978 2 years ago

j4allen 2 years ago
what are you using to learn? I have to try to teach myself using a basic computer and videos here on YT. Unfortunately I don't think there is an Irish speaker in the entire city I live in.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
Im using "Irish on your own"
It's a great course, with tapescripts and everything, and it happens to be in the Ulster dialect too.
j4allen 2 years ago
sounds great, I am going to have to buy an Irish/English dictionary, and the next level up of comp program.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
Which is the comp programme ye use?
j4allen 2 years ago
Talk Now! Irish from EuroTalk, I want to buy Talk More (the next level up). I just don't have any money, spent it all on food and books for school.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
Oh I see.
Well the course was a present. I'm generally not that fond of things that only teach you set phrases and no grammar or anything...
j4allen 2 years ago
yeah I understand, what I would really like is a human teacher or a group of people trying to learn.
monkeyapplenerd 2 years ago
yeah that'd be grand....but I don't think there's any in this country. I know several Irish people though and they teach it at schools over there
j4allen 2 years ago
lucky you, I will just have to go it alone until I find someone else who speaks it.
