  • I want to play this song on full blast in prison and watch the inmates reaction.

  • I don't think i'll ever be able to listen to this song without getting goosebumps. Ever.

  • just awe-inspiring.

  • I want this song played at my funeral

  • I swear to god I'm starting to come to the conclusion that this whole band is really just a tribute to Joseph Merrick

  • <33

  • soooooooooooooo trippy.

  • thid is fuckin geniueusieisiieisi???

  • Im gonna blow my brains out while i am listening to this song...

  • @ferdin12 But then how will you listen to Mastodon?

No, in all seriousness, get help, that's not cool, man. Call the suicide hotline at 1-800-2433

  • @ferdin12 this is a good song to blow your brains out to but i wouldnt recomended it

  • and do you know Joe Shomme?

  • @gawiur Josh Homme you musical retard

  • Comment removed

  • @Blastomath Really? Never heard about him.. Please tell me more, you dome of musical knowledge!

  • @Blastomath lol please tell you realised it was a joke XD

  • Yeah Float away Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost You know we're weightless Climb Under my wing Climb Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost You know we're weightless Climb Under my wing Climb Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all Grown so slow You run away Desolate us I'm sailing away
  • i cant find live version of this piece!! :'( !!

  • Only lyrics I can understand is (Im on my way back) and what sounds like (resonate flow)

Either way this song is great.

  • Lol baphomet! if it resembled something it would be more like Cernunnos than Baphomet

  • This song is genious !

  • At multiple points it sounds like he's saying "I'm on my way back home." Anyone who listened to The Hunter should get that. Also, it seems like Joseph Merrick also would have had no friends. Hmm, pretty cool.

  • @SquidShield9000 It does sound like "I'm on my way back" I don't hear "home" and I doubt they tied it together. They planned this album, The Hunter was thrown together in 3 weeks.

  • I'm loving the baphomet symbolism on the cover :)

  • @JesseNovak ..........It's the top of Blood Mountain, Not a baphomet or any "symbolism" Please stop assuming things.

  • How cool would it be to see brent hinds do a solo acoustic release? Im sure he has plenty of unused material

  • @squeezeslemons they actually were high on acid when making this and he just mumbled shit into the microphone.

  • @bigdTE71or44 Where'd you hear that? I'm not doubting your info but i'm just wondering. That's pretty interesting though and i'd love to hear the whole story behind that if you know any more

  • Beautiful song. Can't stop playing it over and over on my iTunes.

  • I have no idea what he's saying but it sounds awesome.

  • It'd be great if people could stop saying the same thing 5000000 times in the comments! Thank you, I am now aware it was a fan letter from Josh Homme.

  • @martyn10011 yo dude it was a fan letter from Josh Homme

  • @ChirpCentral your cool, can you teach me to be as cool as you cos i really wanna be as cool as you cos everything you do is so cool...

  • @Ophiguris because they are idiots.

  • fucking great...

  • Was this song in any movie or tv series? Cause its so dammn good and i have a feeling i've heard it before somewhere.

  • my boyfriend thinks this song reminds him of jimi hendrix little wing.. the guitar..

  • Why did this song download onto Itunes as 22 minutes instead of five minutes. I sat there for a whole minutes after the music stopped. I don't know what happened.

  • @UnderwhelmingPlywood It's 5 minutes of music, followed by 16 minutes of silence, then a minute-long fake fan letter read by Josh Homme. If you want a 5 minute version (as in just the actual song) just go to mp3skull(dot)com.

  • @UnderwhelmingPlywood your ignorance happened

  • Mastodon really feel for the Elephant Man, huh?

  • Yeah-Float away-Known so low-You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost-You know we're weightless-Climb-Under my wing-Climb Known so low-You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost-You know we're weightless-Climb-Under my wing-Climb Known so low-You run away Desolate us Desolate all Grown so slow-You run away Desolate us I'm sailing away Best Lyrics I found. Love this song! Stevie Ray Vaughn captured by Pirates & playing in an underground river... It's like that fkn trippy
  • Also, it kinda reminds me of Thank You by Led Zeppelin, Idk why.

  • This song is fantastic. Probably my favorite on this album. I'm glad I bought this and Crack the Skye. I'll probably get Leviathan and The Hunter when that comes out.

  • that solo sounds right out of the amp of jimmy page or tony iommi

  • this song makes me cry :(

  • i'll have you know thaaaat....i'm on my waaaaaay back!

  • best song before bedtime...

  • This song feels like it's taking back to a time in history. It's just hard to explain what is happening in between, althought the perfect instrumentation can tell you otherwise...

  • absolutely fuckin love this song! I just make up my own lyrics or just match the sounds while i'm half asleep. I got sleep plugged into my mp3 and waking up in the middle of this song is a weird experience. I just smile and enjoy my warm bed :]

  • \m/

  • reminds me of.... a Chimaira song... Empty. There is a part where just random lyrics are rambled. It's weird, but seriously enjoyable :D \m/

  • i love listening to this song while drunk

  • i think this even tops all the pink floyd songs as the best song to have sex to. maybe. then again pendulous skin is not something you wanna picture when fucking.

  • @demonchocobo Echoes :)

  • Such a sexy song.

  • on the mastodon website, it says that there are apparently no lyrics

  • @MCJA94 there aren't, he's essentially just moaning with the melody of the song. Brent made this song for a side project he had, but decided it to record it with Mastodon as an instrumental track at the end of the album.

  • @lionslicer9999 oh okay, thanks

  • This song makes me feel like i know Brent Hinds on a personal level...

  • this is one of the reasons why blood mountain is my favourite mastodon album. not an easy choice to make its either blood mountain or leviathan!! still lots of love for remission and lifesblood:)

  • i see her face oh no

i see theres a lght oh

    thats what i hear!

  • yeah yeah im on my way when i was all alone the chill ran away i see a face oh no i saw a face oh what have you done right im on my way back flying im on my way when i was almost home the children run away i see your face oh no isolate us what have you done right im on my way back crying i found a way yes when i was all alone the chill ran away i see a face oh no i saw a face oh lord have you done right im on my way back ride im on my way when i was almost home you ran
  • Yeah Float away Known so low You run away Desolate us Desolate all No love is lost You know we're weightless Climb Under my wing Climb
  • God, this song just puts me in a trance... The echo-y sound to it, just epic.

  • i melt every bit

  • Awesome band.. Umm.. Where's the rest of the track? You know... The creepy part

  • The lyrics sound like they were written by someone tripping balls

  • @seedandstem

Brent is pretty much always tripping balls xD

  • beautiful guitar intro and song for that matter

  • Does this song have lyrics?

  • @squeezeslemons Yes. If you type "Mastodon - Pendulous Skin lyrics" into Google, it tends to work wonders.

  • @martyn10011 Um yea I did, each link has different lyrics and in the album the band didn't give out any lyrics...so basically nobody know what he's saying I guess...

  • @squeezeslemons I suppose thats what I get for trying to act smart and just looking at the first link I found. Sorry. Well, I guess I have absolutely no fucking clue what is being sang about!

  • @martyn10011 haha it's all good, I guess it's just open to interpretation

  • @martyn10011 With lyrics or not this is fucking amazing dude!

  • Comment removed

  • @martyn10011 damn prog bands and being mysterious! lol they're still amazing none the less. mastodon rules

  • @martyn10011 In terms of the concept it's about the main character falling from the mountain and dying in peace now that he's broken his curse. As far as I'm aware at least... no one really knows the lyrics, except for snippets, like 'On my way home' and such.

  • @martyn10011 I think he's just saying unintelligble words because Joseph Merrick had speech problems because of his conditions, and so only people who knew him and spent time with him could understand him (according to wikipedia anyways). but that;s just what I think

  • @squeezeslemons lol nope. At least not in the Cd case, Same with Bladecatcher

  • @squeezeslemons maybe not. some songs are instrumentals.

  • Best band of this decade, no contest!!!!!!!

  • @evilbryan420 Definetly one of them.

  • this is such a beautiful piece. . . such a different side of brent and the boys of mastodon. . . i love it.

  • 2 huge monitor speakers. Play this song in 1080p. Turn Volume up. Song starts... Find self in another dimension.

  • S H I V E R I N G

  • Has any one tried to cover the solo for this song im tried looking for a cover and havent im gonna try to do a cover of it its gonna b a pain ass

  • This reminds me of Pink Floyd a lot. Love it!

  • that solo is so led zeppelin!

  • it has so much soul!!!!!!

  • someone needs to upload this entire album.... i mean i have the cd and the vinyl but i wanna jam it at work!!!!!!

  • did anyone else buy the cd and get this song as being 22 minutes long? i did

  • @TheBearJewPictures Yes, the actual studio version is 22 minutes long. Most of it is slience, with a voice clip at the end from a fake fan letter.

  • @martyn10011 It's actually Josh Homme of QOTSA. His backing vocals are on Colony Of Birchmen.

  • @martyn10011 from josh motha fucking homme!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheBearJewPictures A fan letter from Josh Homme of QOTSA nonetheless.

  • @martyn10011 so I asked the Mastodon facebook group about the recording near the ending of this song, and someone mentioned that it is Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. huh...

  • @martyn10011 letters not fake... and I didnt even hear that

  • @MrThembones The letter starts at about 21:24

  • @walabalabingbong yeah but like... all I hear is laughing.

  • @MrThembones Try turning your sound up all the way or putting in headphones. There have been times where I've forgotten I've left the song playing and at the part where he starts talking all you hear are whispers (it scared the shit out of me the first time lol) and then a very audible laugh with tons of reverb on it. Even listening through headphones it's kind of hard to hear it, so you might have to turn your volume all the way up.

  • @walabalabingbong Yeah I found it the other day. Way into the song, its rather short so I probably skipped over it

  • @martyn10011 Yeesh, when I ran into that dilemma, I just thought, why not just download this one from here using the realplayer downloader and just convert it to WMA... and it ends up working perfectly.

  • @martyn10011 keep it real... REAL!! :P

  • @martyn10011 No, it's a real fan letter from Homme.

  • @martyn10011 Its a letter from Josh Homme from Queens of the stone age

  • @AleksanderNile How about Josh Homme from Kyuss?

  • @martyn10011 the fan letter is read by josh homme of queens of the stone age

  • @martyn10011 It's not fake- it's Josh Homme, who sent them some backing vocals for "Colony Of Birchmen" :)

  • Comment removed

  • @martyn10011 a letter from Josh Homme, of QOTSA

  • @TheBearJewPictures the voice clip is not a fake fan letter, its actually Joshua Homme from Queens of the Stone Age showing his support for the band....

  • one of the greatest solos of the 21st century

  • @manof1001faces agreed.....maybe even the best solo ever...it blends so well with the rest of the song...this is by far my favourite Mastodon piece

  • @manof1001faces i dunno why but some of my guitarist think mastodon solos are not worth much. I cannot begin to comprehend why. they say its too disordered and tend to meander away. personally i think elephant man and pendulous skin solos are some of the best solos ever. in fact the elephant man solo has been stuck in my head for months now. i just cant get it out.

  • after you climb up the blood moutain, with pendulous skin on the end, you just go down over it in some peaceful meaning... thats awsome! MASTODON 4ever!!!

  • thank you for finally get this up on youtube!!!!!!!! now i can melt my co workers faces off!! mwuahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  • @toolarmy4life My pleasure. Was surprised no-one else had uploaded the studio version properly before considering how fucking awesome this song is.

  • I second that!

  • amazing song
