They have. Todays MG3 is almost the same like the the "old" MG42. It shoots a 7.62mm round. Was my favourite weapon during my time at german army in the 90ties.

Even today it is one of the best light machine guns.

@deniahmad9 its actually the quietest. the mg42, mg34 and k98 use the same round (7.92mmx57). the mp40 uses 9mm parabellum pistol rounds like the luger and much quieter

the germans had better weapons then us the mg-42 is alomost as good as the minigun we would have lost but the germans could not mass produce tanks planes and more newer guns a tiger might be better then the sherman but its 3 tigers vs 40 shermans but really our planes were better and we could mass produce weapons planes and tanks because of all the factories from the depression
