I may be be wrong, but I think that at least by his later years Johnny P. knew the Lord....when you hear him singing "the old rugged cross" late in life...maybe it's just for the audience, but my surmise is that he understood and felt it deep down. RIP
@vmcla You know George Jones and Johnny Paycheck both started out about the same time back in the fifties. They played together for quite a few years. There are some videos here on youtube of them playing together. I will see if I can find them and I will send you the links. The man had a pretty good voice back in the day til the booze, cigarettes and drugs got to him. But I have to agree with you George Jones was a much better singer.
A Gary Stewart hit., but J. Paycheck did everything so damn well with his own way. Never heard this one with Johnny before, it was sure great,,Thanks for posting.

You say his one of the most underrated Country singers???
I always taught that everybody saw him as one of the greatest??
I heard that the Real Americana is not taken good care of in America.

@steinsteel He was voted as having the best singing voice in country music by his peers many years ago.

@pecvillian I guess they forgot about George Jones that year; this man can't hold a candle to Jones or ... etc...
