  • Hong Kong, man. Not Honk Hong.

    just sayin

  • @GKAwithavengeance u would know : P

  • 1:36 See what happens when you try to be cool? You get punished from the left overs. hahaha, man this part was funny when that happened because usually the actor acts cool and big explosion, but in here you get punished. Now thats realistic. Good thing Mark's Twin Brother from A Better Tomorrow 2 learns his lesson from trying to be cool. haha, this movie is great!

  • Awesome Beretta action!

  • Beretta 92F its a 9mm

it's the gun of choice when using double pistols, not much kick back for accuracy

  • @kmn5 Chow Yun Fat used the Beretta for other movies such as A Better Tomorrow 2, Hard Boiled and The Replacement Killers.

  • @DC322 Yup :)

Hollywood shoot outs contain Fake Blodd. This was "REAL"

just car chase scenes its the SAME Damn thing!

  • lol bullet shield

  • What version is this? The sound seems to have been redone.

  • @KangDo Apparently this is the original sound, but some dvds in Europe (and in America too I think) have another music for this scene.

  • @ilovemuesli

the music on my uk dvd has far more dramatic music, it has the music i've always heard and i've seen no end of different versions from uk, us and hk

  • @ilovemuesli

It's not just the music - this version has a problem that plagues quite a few Hong Kong DVDs. They replaced a lot of the sound effects with new ones, and added some incidental ones, only they REALLY stick out and fit poorly into the overall soundscape of the scene. I believe they do this to create the 5.1/DTS surround effects, but personally I'd much prefer the original mono to the damage done to the scene in this version.

  • @lartrak Well I agree with you about the 5.1 sounds (some gunshots), but there doesnt seem to be a lot of them... But the song here is the original one, the dramatic song seem in later releases...

  • @lartrak Yep. I dunno if it's to create 5.1 sound though. They're speaking Mandarin at the end of the sequence there. The original was filmed in Cantonese. Mandarin versions of HK films were made for the greater Chinese population, as it is the common language of the Chinese world. The Mandarin dubbed versions of HK movies pretty much always blow because they're done after the fact, and often without the consultation of the original filmmakers.

  • @ilovemuesli Exactly. If I remember correctly, the first Anchor Bay release redid the audio for 5.1, but it ended up being recalled, and they used the original audio for all subsequent releases.

This movie seems to have a really bad track record as far as DVD releases are concerned. They either seem to have bad picture/good sound (good being "unaltered") or good picture/bad sound, or some variation thereof. Hopefully Dragon Dynasty will get both parts right if and when their version shows up.

  • @KangDo this version must be re-master DVD version, as I watched this scene many many time, original version is mono.

  • @KangDo This is the probably the HK remastered release with the 5.1 soundtrack. For some reason they thought it was a great idea to add new foley sound effects to give people the 5.1 feel, but the problem is that it doesn't sound original. I always watch this movie in its original mono track

  • yea of course, lets be stupid and shoot chow yun fat in the leg while his backs turned.

  • Who needs to reload when you just have loads of guns!

  • Top action excellently choreographed, Oriental films are class!

  • Chow Yun Fat is the ultimate bad ass motherfucker.

  • classic Chow Yun Fat look, always chewing on a toothpick or something similar. I love it!

  • whats the song?

  • @Cowofgood

    闽南语歌曲《免失志》

  • My favorite scene eva afta from HardBoiled movie, i love to see the walking style with the shoot gun from chow yun fat, a gangsta style even a better style from mafioso...

  • Oh fuck yes!!!!

The scene which made established both Woo and Chow as action movie icons!!!!

  • 香港電影經典!!

  • john woo is the best. made all my mates watch hard-boiled the other day, to great success

  • Woo said that he got his slow motion ideas from Scorsese. Awesome!

  • "Ammunition? Never heard about that before!"

  • @YoungZer0...na would be too much stopping & fiddling around for catridges many things can go wrong in the heat of the moment when it comes to reloading...best thing to do was wat he did...plus it looked cooler!

  • He sure does like shooting people's shoulders

  • Damn the soundtrack is pretty gangsta!!!

  • Anyone know the name of this song?

  • that was a retarded level of badass awesomeness

  • best part was when he unloads the clip into the fuckers head

  • The song is called 免失志, by 陈小雲.

    Search YouTube for the name.

  • @djokawari Thank you! I could finally found it! :D

  • It makes me wonder why John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat aren't doing any more movies together. They need to team up and give action films another big kick in the ass.

  • he needs to use a silencer

  • john woo is the police inspector who walks in at the very end of the video

  • You have to love the head guy at the party.

"Hey, who else has come to join our party? Hey friend!"

"Agh, that's not proper party behavior!"

  • Damn, how many bullets did he put in that mans face

  • anyone know the song at the begining?

  • @theaznvincent Search YouTube for 免失志(陈小雲)

  • @theaznvincent Search YouTube for: 免失志(陈小雲)

  • If you look carefully at 2:06 the shell hits chow yun fat in the face. This is a great movie, its what made me a fan of hk movies.

  • john woo movie is better than all shit us movie!!!

  • The BOSS is the reason why Mark's (Chow) best friend is framed...

    And NOW, hes gonna pay!!!!!!!

  • loved this scene and film. the emotions of happiness, lust, and revenge all in one scene.

  • I've loved this movie since I saw it on HK telly when I was like seven years old. Chow Yum Fat, pimpin' bitches and droppin' mofos at the same time. That's my boy right there!

  • @CommendatoreAndolini I don't think he cared about the girl. She was just a distraction so he could plant the guns - that's why he grabbed her butt to get rid of her.

  • Man has style though, gotta give him that!

  • Also I watch these scene at least once every week. it never seems to get old. in fact i gain more respect for it every time i watch it.

  • what a way to build up atmosphere the foreplay... and then the door... the serious face... and finally hell.

  • @radicalhit

Yes this scene is awesome and has a good build up. A pleasant chirpy song to disguise the intent :)

  • Yeah! Fuck them niggas up, Chow!

  • SO FCKING AWESOME

  • amazing scene from an amazing film

  • who's that actor shooting whats his name??

  • @filo257

    chow yun fat

  • This is John Woo's first time using the Guns Akimbo trope. He actually did that for practical reasons, thinking that using two guns would be the fastest way to kill a room full of bad guys.

  • Stalking his way into a restaurant, wielding dual pistols, slaughtering an entire room full of gangsters, before performing a bloody overkill on the boss...

Well, thats typical of Chow!!! XD

  • Obviously, Shing wanted to be the next Big Brother, which he did, when Ho went to jail. And the only way to do that, was to double cross Ho and send him to do a counterfeit deal with this dodgy guy here.

  • After this scene near the end, when Shing is talking to the original Boss in his house when Ho calls Shing to negotiate a deal to return Shing's plates , Shing admits to the boss when the boss becomes irate how cocky Shing is, that he was the one who double crossed Ho.

  • Chow yun fat at his best. overkill with a slick style and a lack of jumping around like a monkey (( not that I dont mind it, but this is so unique)

  • pause at 1:01,the gun in Chow's right hand is not a beretta...it's an M1911.

  • The last guy you see (with specs) is John Woo. He had a cameo appearance as a Taiwanese inspector.

  • Have you figured this out yet?

    I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's Chen Xiao-Yun - Mian Shi Chi.

  • duo xie!! i would have spent a long time looking for the name of this song!

  • f92 I think.

  • F92=M9 same gun for the most part.

  • Best scene EVER. Period. It's even better with the other audio but either way... some little faggot ass nobody tried to fuck the deal up and get his shit and all that instead of just makin the transaction

  • this scene is MARK killed his taiwanese rivals, actually ,that is taiwan restaurant and taiwan music.

  • Mark is killing the traitors that nearly killed Ho and his apprentice, Shing, and put Ho in prison. It was actually Shing that double crossed Ho and tried to murder him. Instead of course Ho got sent to jail, and Shing rose to power after this scene. Mark was shot in the knee and injured forever.

  • I prefer the audio on the English dub, much darker.

  • 2.35

Headshot! Headshot! Headshot! Headshot! Headshot! xD

  • Reminds me of the Taxi driver

  • actually, this is a brothel/restaurant.

    Classic Hong Kong!

  • But the scene is supposed to take place in Taiwan, if I remember right.

  • The best scene!!!

  • Great clip, great film. But wow, this audio has some altered sound effects from the original that simply don't fit in.

1:15, for example. It sounds like this is a 5.1 remixed audio version they do on some HK films, which almost always are poor quality. Really damages the sequence... I think I'm going to make a video about HK audio remixes and even some American DVDs that do the same thing.

Replacing sound effects is on the same level as redubbing voices for foreign release. Don't do it!

  • That last bit is a message to the DVD producers, not the fine original uploader. :)

  • i like your enthusiasm for original material

  • So is this the original audio? I've heard different songs used in dubbed and subtitled versions.

  • yes, this seems to be the original audio (it's the one heard on the bootleg dvds from HK).

  • Best coolest shootout in any film! The slow mo is fab!

  • Best scene in the whole damn film.

    BAM BAM BAM BAM! ^^

  • You mean Robert De Niro's entrance was like Chow Yun Fat's

  • not quite. mean streets is '73 while a better tomorrow is '86

  • why did they leave guns in the plants

  • Apparently, it is done in reference from another movie (I don't know which one)

  • Mean Streets, just look up the robert de niro bar intro....timeless

  • @ilovemuesli hard boiled, when the smugglers hid guns in bird houses.
