  • Thanks for the resources and letting us know that we're not alone on this. Some people such as myself depend on their internet not just for recreation but to survive. I work from home and I've had problems with my internet since day 1. Bell has the monopoly in my area so there are no competitors. Between 2pm and 12am it usually downloads anywhere from 0.3Mbps to 0.7Mbps. Roughly 5% what is advertised. Today it started at 10am. I'm working on an anti-Bell site. Will keep you posted.

  • I have a 100Mbps connection, and download between 400-500kbps...

    Fucking horrible!

Bell contacted me awhile ago and fucked me out of my unlimited downloads as well, stupid move on my part for agreeing to it! I'm thuinking of going to Rogers, especially with this new "fibe" scam Bell is bullshitting everybody with..

  • hahhahaha, well i was trying to watch this video about how Bell slows down your internet, but my bell internet is going to slow to load the video

  • My download speed with Bell is 1.37mbps, my upload speed is 0.40mbps, I don't think this is what they advertise to people, very slow!

  • fuck it

  • My connection is fast. 6Mbps/750KBps download.

If you want yours as fast it should be then stop using Bells DNS Servers and switch to OpenDNS od DynDNS Servers it by passes Sympaticos DNS.

Set it up in the Modem and the Computer.

Also this is a hack that can also get you free internet when unsubscribed or suspended, Cause Sympatico leaves the DSL connection on the line after account is closed or suspended and the DSL Signal can still be used if you know how to hack it.

  • this practice is also called COMMUNISM!!!

  • after 8pm my internet is slow as fuck i hate bell

  • You are showing download via torrent - apples and oranges.

  • CRTC set to impose BANDWIDTH CAPS on all ISP's in Canada! SIGN THE PETITION! stopthemeter.ca #netneutrality

  • this isnt the fault of the tele companies. its the fault of the crtc and harper for not standing up to them

  • Sadly folks, there is nothing you can do about Bell or any other Huge Company in Canada, period! Since the mid 1980's Canadians "Changed", and began to pray to the Big Companies & Right Wing Governments as our savior's! Even today would the average Canadian vote against the Right Wing? "Never"! Their here to stay and to keep robbing us blind, so enjoy! The Me Concept created this shit, so just eat it & keep paying the rich! You still can look cool to your friends, right! RIP Unions!

  • one guy told me they do and he works, there, they brought my net to 1mb and I bitched and the guy told me a bot does it,

  • I'm getting that annoying start-buffering-start behavior on a 4 minute youtube video...I'm on Fibe16 for Pete's sake!!! I think it's time to go back to Ted ;-)

  • I was with bell before and their internet speed was awsome. But now im with rogers and its way better n faster but more expensive. Can someone make a video on bell 25 fibe?

i wanna know what that is all about..

  • i fucking hate this assholes, fucking what 9 and ahalf hours of fucking peak hour! 4:30pm till fucking 2am interwont download above 24kbps then even at night its fucking SLOW, there the biggest joke ever.

  • tinytory, the speeds they advertise are megaBITS per second, not megabytes. you should have been getting (16/8)= 2 megabytes per second. So yeah, your 309kbps download was way slower than it should have been, but not by the margin you calculated. At 309kbps, you were getting about 2.4 megabits of your promised 16. Mind you the server you were downloading from could have been at fault. The torrents going slow is all Bell's throttle though, and that's pretty disgusting.

  • don't waste our time writing. Just don't use their services.

  • I agree, I pay extra for my service to have it at 7mbps, But speed test's proved this really is only 4.5mbps(peak of 550kbps the highest i ever seen on my torrent's). I went on there site and complained. Took 3 times for me to get an answer. What was it? The technician said that my connection is at 5mbps out of 7mbps because if it were at 7mbps I would have frequent disconnects and the connection to the modem would not be stable. I call BS.

  • for all people who are having there torrent speeds throttles be bell, uTorrent has a new feature called uTP which bypasses ISP throttling. it is available in version 2.0 and above. you can enable it by setting bt.trans_disposition to 255 in Advanced settings. hope this helped :)

  • @fireguy1919alt

That does not work for most people.

  • Bell sucks

Moved my phone to vonage, now pay 1/3rd the price for 4 times the services and a real customer service department.

Already moved my cell phone (x4) to Telus. Currently deciding where to move my TV & internet service - may just cancel TV altogether. Bell is a leader in worst practises in leadership and management. Incompetence lead from the top starting with this George Cope character who is posing as a CEO - dump your BCE stock - dump it quick.

  • We were on an old Bell plan which offered 3.5 Mb/s down for $60/month.

Recently, Dad decided to take a closer look at the actual service we were getting.

The Bell Speedtest showed that we were getting a dl speed of 1.5 Mb/s (tested multiple times over one week).

This was equal to a $40 plan currently offered by Bell.

Dad contacted customer service, but they took no steps to fix the problem, and tried to charge us a "network upgrade fee".

We switched to Cogeco right after.

  • Comment removed

  • @ACGRSvid the way your company treats customers is an embarrassment to Canada and ISPs around the developed world. I appreciate you deleting my comments on your video outlining the misery signing up for Fibe 25 has brought to me.

  • Amen, Bell's customer support and the quality of their service are abysmall.

The only thing "impressive" about Bell's service is how much they charge, and how little they give you.

  • bell sucks

  • id be lucky to get 309kb the internet i have is only 54kbs

  • best customer service,too

Me: "So which bullet should I click on? TCP or ICP?"

    Bell: "yes"

  • What the hell is ICP?

  • what is the name of the second song?

  • im with bell and it throttles youtube and any torrent.

  • Negative. YouTube is not throttled. As a matter of fact, YouTube uses Bell for hosting it's videos in some areas.

  • @ACGRSvid Seems like it sometimes, considering that I can only pull about 30k down on YouTube sometimes, and sometimes 600+ down.

  • You are not paying for 16 ***MEGABYTES*** per second. You are paying for 16 ***MEGABITS*** per second. There is a big difference. Learn it.

Having access to Bell's tools I can tell you the highest I have ever seen anyone's max sync rate to be is about 22mbit, so the most Bell can offer with existing tech is up to 20-22mbit/sec

They still suck, and I fucking hate them for what they do to customers and employees, but do try not to be a "doesn't know shit about computers" customer before ranting.

  • @KTDFox To achieve a transfer rate of one megabyte (1024k) per second you would need a network connection with a transfer rate of eight megabits per second. I have never had a connection from Bell any higher than just above 4 Mbits per second or approximately 500-600 kb/s download (1 MB every two seconds) Your saying that bell can offer 20-22 mbit/sec, which would be approx. 3 megabytes per second download. But the highest service they offer is actually 16mbits per second, which is 2mb/s

  • I'm saying that under ideal conditions, the maximum attainable sync rate I have ever seen on one of their FTTN lines was 20-22mbit/sec. If they offered a 20-22mbit connection, those with the best of the best line conditions (very few people) could have it.

In this case max sync rate means maximum attainable. Nobody is ever assigned a line profile to deliver that speed because as you said, the highest service they offer is 16mbit/sec.

  • Howdy; Bell now offers Fibe 25. Synced at 25Mbps with VDSL2

  • @ACGRSvid

Look man there is a difference between 100% fibre optic network and a part fibre/part copper network which bell has. So its fibre to the area not fibre to the house. You internet will still come through RJ11 copper wires.

  • @SaveTheHumanRace I never said it was Fibre to the home. I stated there was a new plan called Fibe 25. Also; Bell is indeed implementing FTTH (Fibre to the Home) and will have over 4 million homes served. Please visit bce's website for the full article.

    FTTH is coming.

  • @ACGRSvid

The FTTH is something bell needs ASAP cause their copper is well past its expiry date or at least it is on my street and they them self have admitted that to me but the FTTH has a catch its only for new urban and suburban housing developments in Ontario and Quebec. So their existing customers will still suffer. So really Rogers is the only answer on my street.

  • @SaveTheHumanRace It's not required. VDSL2 can provide speeds up to 100Mbps. Rogers uses Copper and DOCSIS 3.0.

  • Fuck that, these assholes still throttle p2p and torrent traffic. I get about 20kbps download from 5pm to 2am, and longer on weekends.

    Bell is a fucking joke.

  • @3R3MITE

it's not always the isp's fault for slow torrents. the times at which you download are when the internet has the most people online, taking up more bandwidth. i recommend downloading during the morning and during weekdays when more people are at work, school etc. just leave uTorrent or whatever running while you are at school or work.

  • @fireguy1919alt

Bell admits, on their website, that they throttle P2P and torrents. I know how torrents work, please don't assume Im an idiot.

Also, I pay for UNLIMITIED HIGH SPEED not LIMITED SLOW SPEED, so who gives a shit what other people are doing with their connections. My service should not be effected by my neighours use, or lack of use.

Torrents are supposed to be fast, so why do they throttle them? Do we need high speed emial? High speed text messaging? Get fucking real.

  • i'm not assuming your an idiot. i was just trying to help, because it worked for me and many other people. but anyway, i switched from bell because there customer service sucked.

  • Makes it impossible to play any online game... Im behind you 100%.

  • Primus does not use bell lines, and they do not throttle. They have the same speeds as bell, and are much cheaper with unlimited downloading per month. You can download torrents at any time and get 500+kbs downloads.

  • i got bell 2.. i pay $40 for 5kb/sec 60gb of usage for almost 4 years now and nothing wrong with mine.. they included a wireless modem with it and it works great.. my dad has cogeco he pays $55 for 10mb/sec connection and gets 50gb of usage and most of the time i download something it doesnt even go to the top speed sometimes it just goes to 200mb/sec or less when it wants to it goes fastermy friendhas rogers and it takes years to load.. it just depends where you live

  • it doesnt depend where you live, it depends what you download. If you download torrents between the hours of 2pm and 2am you will only download at 30kbs. P2P sites all throttled. You just dont notice it because you dont download from p2p sites.

  • k if your most of your neighbours use cable internet than it shares that speed with neighbours and it gets way slower... and dsl needs line signal.. i have a friend that used to get disconnected every 10 secs with dsl and i have another friend that has cogeco and sometimes it slows down connection .. and i have a friend that lives in toronto and has rogers and holycrap i had to refresh google 10 times so it will load properly and it will take about 30 secs to load in it

  • and p2p = peer to peer.. person to person.. it depends on how fast the person can send that file or the server to you and how mutch you can resieve ..i go up to 200kbps anytime of the day... downloading torents with 25 peers.. + i have a homenetworking modem from bell... i use xbox live and i hav 3 computes in this house and its always working without any slowdowns

  • You need to look up "throttling" or "traffic shaping" here's a link: cbc(.)ca/technology/story/2008/04/25/tech-trafficshaping(.)html

It has nothing to how fast the person can upload on p2p, it has to do with bell and rogers throttling internet connections so you can only download from p2p at 30kb/s during peak times.

  • ill try to make a video.. ill download torents and ill use p2p programs like limewire and see how fast it goes....

  • @cmcolombianSh Bell admits to throttling on their website, so dont make excuses for them and assume we're all stupid and dont know how torrents work.

Bell throttles ALL p2p traffic between 2-4pm and 2am.

  • @3R3MITE i know.. but how come i can download more then 100mbps on p2p like downloading music and torrents when there is alot of peers? anyways im not defending bell i know they suck cuz i hav it but im just telling you the truth ..

  • @cmcolombianSh

You only get 30kps on torrents and p2p at peak hours. Every bell customer does.

  • @3R3MITE alright.. im usually gettin more but if thats wut u say.. wut internet provider doesnt throttle? ofcourse im switchin cuz teksavvy has a cheaper price.. but it runs on bells network too.

  • @cmcolombianSh videotron does not throttle its internet. Bell is absolute fucking shit. Im at a friend house downloading at 1 kb/sec

  • @cmcolombianSh Any phone line based internet service runs on bell hardware/infrastructure. To get away from it you have to go to either cable based (and all the ones I know of throttle), Satellite, which gets really expensive with the download caps, or mobile, which has the same problem as satellite.

  • Repeat after me...

    FUCK BELL

    FUCK BELL

    FUCK BELL

  • fuck bell

    fuck bell

    fuck bell

  • you would not beleive the amount of calls taken daily, with this exact problem...1 out of 10 i have to actually send a tech. the other 9, its the clients changing the modem to a diff spot in the house...adding a 25 foot telephone cable to it, or plugging a filter behind the modem.. am i saying ur stupid for not knowing ur not supposed to do that..no... i didnt know these things before i started working tech. doesnt matter the ISP..its all internet. stop crying and call some1 to fix it.

  • ok.. 1:15 YOU ARE STUPID. its impossible to download at 16 mbps. 16 mb is your connection speed, when you download a file, its a fraction of that, probly around 800kbps is what you'll get

  • What are you, five years old? Maybe you should spend less time at home playing computer games and more time getting a life you little shit.

  • no not five years old asswipe, and you need to research your dsl and how internet works. when they say 16mb, thats the connection speed. i work tech support i think i know what im saying...lol

    wetard

  • 16Mbit = 16 / 8 = 2megabyte

With a 16mbit connection you should be downloading at 2mb/s. That is without taking into account overhead and the speed of the server you are connected to.

  • and yes you are right..its the connections speed devided by 8 wich should be 2 megs most likely you will not hit 2 megs, but close..ast least 1600 IF you really have a 16 meg connection.

Direct download will let you get theses speeds...torrents no, because ur getting pieces off other ppl, wich most upload speeds are 512 to 1 meg.

Main thing is, if ur not getting the speeds you should, call tech support. still cant get them..downgrade the service..that simple!

  • Lol, tech support genious, You're just another idiots pretending he knows what hes talking about. "Oh yea sir, the signal is very weak from what my super duper machine says. Oh yea, it's getting better now that you rebooted it, I dunno what's the problem... Sorry!" My modem has been unplugged for the last 30 minutes... You're a genius!

  • hahahaha ur funny...have u actually worked tech support...thats not how it works..and am i saying ur a liar...NO yes there is stupids agents like that out in the world. they are humans like me and you. just like thers stupid customers

What would you say if u asked someone to click on start, then controle panel...but wait...the start button they actually hit was to shut off the pc. ur the one that thinks ur smart..lol and knows nothing. or maybe u do. but dont judge others by one person!

  • @tinytory He speaks the truth, most websites cap their upload speeds to save money and resources, so even if you have a Gigabit connection, you'll only get 800 kbps from that website. High speed plans like that only makes sense when you're talking P2P, but as you said, they filter that.

and FYI a unit of measurement for speed on the net mbps, (megabit per second) is a misnomer, 1 megabit only equals roughly 125 kilobytes. Not 1 megabyte.

  • @tinytory the real issue here is that you are reading the units wrong, 16Mbps is 16 mega-bits a second, divide that number by 8 (8bits/byte) and you will get the dl speed in megabytes a second (kinda misleading advertising, but not false)

so a 16Mbps connection will max out at 2megabytes a second, which is still far over what you see here

  • @Dooooood6 agree

  • @tinytory Actually I believe he is someone who knows what he is talking about. It is impossible to get more than 2mbs speed on bittorrent even if there's are 1000:1 seeder count because it's capped around that. 500kbs-1mps is your normal speed for torrents.

Just because someone knows what he's talking about when it comes to computers and the internet doesn't make him a 5 year old or lifeless nerd. I'm pretty sure you're working for the type of person dukeyou is.

  • @tinytory dude however, you are not paying for 16 Megabytes, you are paying for 16 Megabits. That is 2Megabytes per second. This means if you got only 309KB/s you are not getting what you paid for, but still you must get your facts straight. Plus you will never get 2Megabytes per second, like the guy above said. Here is how to translate it: 1MBps = 1 Megabyte per Second. 1 Mbps = 1 Megabit per second. There is a dramatic difference. A byte is 8 bits.

  • @tinytory Just saying, Your paying for 16 MegaBITS not 16 MegaBYTES .... 8 bits = 1 byte. So, if you use a 16 Mbits/sec connection, your speed should be around 2 MBytes/sec.

  • Comment removed

  • @dukeyou actually you're wrong lol when they advertise it's in megabits not megabytes. For example, I get "up to 7Mbps" converted to Kilobytes that's 896 which is pretty much the speed I get on most downloads, usually a bit lower at around 800ish. (shaw hamilton)

  • @dukeyou My connection is 30 mbps and I DO download at 30 mbps from Steam everytime. So I have no idea what you think you are talking about

  • @dukeyou Look like you been brainwash by Bell...

  • i have bell sympatico and its never faster than dial up

  • Fuck you all, Rogers is way worse now than Bell ever was. The new Bell actually gives good customer support and stay's true to its services. FUCK ROGERS should be this video's topic

  • @slanga786

Let's face it they both suck and until we get real competition up here in Canada they'll continue to screw us with overpriced services and crappy devices, packaged with terrible Customer Support.

    Bell can kiss my ass.

  • @slanga786 Good customer support ?? WTF you talking about ? It's a well known fact that Bell has a poor customer support. Seems you did not had any real problem ..or problem at all. Moron.

  • I just switched to Bell like 2 months ago, and I fcking hate it already. It really pisses me off. And I loose internet connection every single frickin day, especially when it's raining or even when it's just overcast. Makes me wonder what would happen during winter season. And I know it's not my computer or anything that's causing the problem cause I didn't have any problems before when I was using Rogers. Avoid Bell altogether cuase it sucks dirty ass.

  • I am agree with opinion Bell en dowloadage cé de la marde

  • I HATE BELL, I hate their lound advertissement and I hate their business pratice. You won't have their best prince until you call them and threat to go with others. I remember when I unsubsribed, the woman was still trying to sell me their craps.

  • im paying about $90 a month for Bell and gettign 30kb/s on my torrents isn't what im paying for...anyone has a good alternative to bell?

  • Comment removed

  • Teksavvy.

  • @YumeWire The reason Teksavvy had to screw all their customers was because they rent all the servers, hubs, repeaters and wiring, basically all the infrastructure, from Bell. It was Bell that put the clamp down on the little guys like Teksavvy and Execulink

  • I was a happy bell customer

but when throttling started I left for Teksavvy

bought a linksys wrt54gl router setup MLPPP

    and have never been happier

I have since moved to teksavvy for my home phone service $27 a month

and canceled my bell expressview service

  • teksavvy use bell internet service...

  • All Canadian companies suck. Yes! Im saying ALL!!!!

The best service/products I buy in Canada are always Japanese/Taiwanese/American. None of Canadian companies respect their customers. Of course, as a result, canada isnt good at all in economy world. They seems really backward....really...

I never trust any canadian company. Never....Worst economy in developed countries

  • Oh, so you dont trust Bombardier? Jean Coutu? IMAX Corporation? Labatt Brewing Company (now owned by Belgian brewer InBev)? Molson, Parasuco... Rona? Cmon man.. read up a bit before commenting would you? Or gtfo of Canada if you dont like it

  • This is Canada. Our government is too busy with legislating teen age drivers and alcohol in movie theatre. They dont have time for this bell throttling. CRTC and bell are in bed together having fun.

boycott buying new tv, dvd, dvd disks, computers

  • Sympatico sucks balls.

  • Lame! I am switching to Primus, this is ridiculous, YouTube just took 3 minutes to load their home page!

  • THIS IS BULLSHIT, you people can't be serious, get educated people, DSL is now through FIBRE OPTIX which way faster than any cable company, IT IS ALSO DEDICATED EACH CUSTOMERS, you are not sharing with any of your neighbors, but the CABLE INTERNET SUCKS, you don't the speed that you pay for all the time, Specially on friday afternoon, saturday ,sunday, after school, man IT"S SUCK THAT THEY SHARE..i can barely watch videos, another thing is that , they can't even set a speed for each customer

  • Bell's throttling is illegal and invasive. They now throttler other DSL ISPs in Canada. Deep packet inspection is a violation of privacy laws. Canadians forget that Bell was a crown corporation paid for by taxpayers. Canadian taxpayers paid for much of the infrastructure Sympatico works on. I have canceled my Bell account including my HOME phone which Bell hates to lose. They think they have a right to it. I will either move to teksavvy or primus.

  • Let's see. Lying piece of shit? My friends switched from Rogers and got much faster DL speeds. It's not necessarily the ISP, but rather the upload speeds of the Server. If the server is busy the DL speeds go down because it can't send it as fast to as many people.

  • right now it's a monopoly, after a few years we'll be using gigabit networks.

  • Why does bell have people who can not even speak proper english work in the call center? It took over a week for bell to fix my internet which they fucked up in the first place when a guy doing service in the neighbourhood was working in those brown boxes at the end of my street. i drove by and seen him working, i came home after my internet wasn't working, i phoned bell and after a week it still wasn't working so they had to come and run a new line to my house which was a pain in the ass.

  • Bell canada is shit, I pay 60$ a month for the regular high speed and I never ever hit the speed mentioned in the ads. On Rogers downloading a file from the same site with there regular high speed which only costs 45$ a month, I can Triple the speed easily with rogers. I rather "share" my connection with the nieghbourhood than be on my own if that means getting faster service. Oh ya and rogers uses cable where bell uses 2 tiny thin little wires to a phone jack.

  • The comment about the contract stipulating speed barriers is acctually flase. It DOES say in the contract that it gives UP TO the maximum speed you're paying for, but also gives a minimum that Bell must meet for the contract to be valid.

Also, the speed listed is for your connection speed and not your upload/download speed for every single thing.

I work in retention, so I know. Lots of bullshit coming from there, but this isn't some of it. Always read your ToS because stuff like this is there!

  • What center do you work at? I work in Moncton :P

  • you can get something for 2$ extra per month that fixed it for me its really fast now, I just phoned bell and yelled at the paki's until i got some service.

  • and they are really an ignorant people, so yes I will call them what ever i feel with pride.

  • i get disconnected about every hour with bell....but if my dad breaks the contract, he has to pay $100 and give back his free lcd monitor....so i have to go through another year of this bullshit....then it's FINALLY OVER!!!111

  • they are doing it to the GMOD FIles Page i think i gat 1 kb/s download from them but normal downloads at all other sites

  • the point is that in everyone's contract it does not stipulate anything about speed barriers and hardware intrusions.

  • I did retention for bell sympatico for a year and I could tell you horror stories about customers problems. I will say in bells defense that other ISP's are no better and a lot of the speed issues with bell derive from distance from the CO and line quality. They do throttle at peak times but only p2p programs are effected. I mean bell could be like rogers and threaten you with legal action/cut off your internet for downloading illegally.

  • If it's written 7Mbps, it's not 7 mb/s. It's not the same thing, and your download speed could depend on many factor. But, when you buy a connection for Videotron at 7 Mbps, it means that all your neighboorhood (with the same network) have a 7 mbps connection so it could slow down your internet connection. But the Bell internet service is 7 Mbps until the signal reach the regional dispatch. So you should have at least a faster internet with bell than videotron...

  • fuck bell. fuckin assclowns. im supposed to get dl speeds of up to 7Mbps and the highest i've gotten is 300kb/s. Can't even download torrent files with like a 10:1 seed to leechers ratio. the max speed i reach is always around 30kb/s. Wtf is this bullshit, i pay like 50 bucks a month for this fake shit? im under contract for 1 year too so this fuckin sucks. DON'T GET BELL PPL.....ANYTHING BUT BELL.

  • the point is that in everyone's contract it does not stipulate anything about speed barriers and hardware intrusions.

  • you're not paying for 16 MEGABYTES, idiot. you're paying for 16 MEGABITS. You should get around 2 MBs per second. Mbps and MB/sec. are much different. One megabit per second or Mbps is about 128KB/s. While I sympathize for your situation and have dealt with that kind of speed with TELUS HighSpeed Enhanced, you must learn about this before you complain. You should be getting 2MB/s. Mb and MB are not the same, remember.

  • You know, idiot, if you had read the very first post on here - you would see that I acknowledged the confusion between bit with byte.

That doesn't change the fact that we're being throttled. So, if you're such a nitpicker, go work for Bell - you sound as friendly as their customer service reps.

  • I would never work for bell - I understand your pain with Bell.

Sorry I called you an idiot- I had an off day.

TELUS refuses to give me proper speeds, too. I understand that Bell is throttling, and I think it's pathetic that Bell throttles. Five stars for your video.

  • hey great video, right now, im downloading at least 4 gbs at once, getiing at most 30kps,

i have the 7mbps pro total performance package, Lying piece of Shit

By the way, whats the name of the song you played at the end?its wonderful

  • Thanks - the song at the end is Lakme by Delibes. You may have heard it on British Airway ads a few years back.

  • @tinytory they r friendly:S if u are not aware of what u r saying, please shut up, or press 1 for more options

  • first time i am trying to get a torrent file i am getting 10 to 50 kbs they said on the phone making my contract i would get "up to 7meg" and now on my bill it said only "up to 4meg" ... i am not down loading anything wrong it's a closed beta game file and torrent is only way to get it, looked on portforward followed step by step, funny when i try to add a app to the allowed app list i get a "unknown error" so i can open up my port to get better speed... thanks BELL !!

  • same here.. i have 16mbps and i get around 100 to 500 kbps download and upload less than 500kbps...

  • Do the math. Go to w w w . speedtest . n e t (don't include the spaces) and run the test on the server closest to you. Take your download and upload speeds and divide them by 8, and those are your max download and upload speeds. E.G. for a 5mbps line: 5000/8=625kb/s. But if you top out at say 4200: 4200/8=525kb/s. Never judge what you're speeds should be by the power of your line.

  • The best thing to do it get Bell to send a ping through their lines to tell you what the best speed is for you, but knowing Bell, they'll just bullshit you. The 30/30 throttle on p2p did stop for a few months on me, but has just literally now come back. Before anyone gets confused with the power of their lines or what they're paying for, a 10mbps line doesnt grant you 10mbps speeds.

  • Whether or not you can get 16MB/s from one server is irrelevant. The point is that on the line you can download from several servers at once (to multiple PC's on the same connection) and still have bandwidth left over to browse.

  • Taking the correct approach to voice one's concerns does make a difference. When profits are affected they change. Yes, the internet should be neutral. As far as the minority of individuals stealing copyrighted material is concerned, please stop! Buy it! Games, movies and other software packages take years to complete! These people deserve to get paid for their work...and, no, I'm not talking about freeware or open source software. There's no easy solution to this.

  • Too many half-truths in this clip. I get 3.5Mbps with Sympatico. Speed varies according to many factors. Only bit-torrent is throttled. Bell clearly explains that speeds will vary according to certain conditions such as line quality. Many use Bit-torrent for legal downloads, however, we are victims for a minority of users that use bit-torrent illegally. I can't blame corporations (or anyone) for wanting to protect their legal, copyrighted material.

  • Are there half truths?

    1. Downloading is not illegal in Canada.

    2. Bell Canada is not a police force nor a Court to unilaterally decide what can and cannot be downloaded.

    3. The Telecommunications Act prohibits what Bell is doing.

    4. The CRTC is holding a hearing on this issue, and EVERY single comment filed is AGAINST Bell - including a submission by Google Inc.

Illegal downloads has nothing to do with throttling. Don't confuse the issues. Bell does not work for Hollywood studios.

  • #1:Stealing is illegal in Canada. #2:Where in the Telecommunications Act? (please validate). Please call CRTC, Industry Canada or Justice Dept about illegal downloads. ISP's can terminate your service if you violate their contract agreement. Did you know that 2nd tier ISP's were too cheap to build their own infrastructure back in the '70s and '80s. Cheaper to take Bell to court now!(Shhh!). They all (and Google) have their reasons ($) to fight. Sadly, we'll know the truth in 5 or 10 years.

  • Sorry, you're wrong. The Federal Court of Canada has already ruled on it. Downloading movies and music is legal in Canada. The ISP agreements say nothing about throttling and there is nothing against downloading on P2P in Bell or Rogers contracts.

2nd tier ISPs are not too cheap to build their own infrastructure - it's a matter of public policy. Bell Canada for many years was a PUBLIC COMPANY subsidized by tax dollars. Now it's trying to have its cake and eat it too.

  • Wow, you are so misinformed. Please back up your claims with facts. First of all, CRTC will hold a ruling sometime in September. These companies (Bell too!) are fighting for their own lucrative agendas nothing else. The plaintiffs claimed throttling is illegal. P2P is legal but it's illegal in Canada to download pirated content (or copyrighted material without proper legal consent). Please call your ISP and ask about "throttling", what constitutes a "legal" download and terms of use.

  • and even more than that... everytime you call to inquire on the matter they hand you a newbie who puts you on hold for 20 minutes only to answer a simple question...

the run around with a newbie in training is what they give you when you're calling to complain regarding billing... of course.. because thety know they average person will hang up after a 30 minute wait because they know we have jobs and can't take the whole f**kin day off just to fix my billing BELL SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you speak French, try this: choose French service and you'll get Montreal. Any problem is solved in 2 minutes or 24 hours tops. Choose English and you get India...tech level 1 only.

  • Its about time Bell gets exposed. I been complaining about them since the first time I got them.

Not to mention the net neutrality that is in danger!

But also their sneaky billing. Haven't anyone everheard $29.95 unlimited download and find out you're being billed at $45.95...and after several calls the billing always seems to fall at that 45 rather than the promised 29 and of course the unlimited downloads was a lie from the sales rep ...

  • Dude i have bell sympatico d/s/l. I know how u feel man. IT SUCKS!!!! And i saw that show, where there comparing internet companies.

Bell costumers were only gettin 10% OF WHAT BELL ADVERTISED!!! LIKE WTF!

  • Read the very first comment, dad.

  • that's 16 mega BITS there, son.

  • haha bell is wicked, the customers our the bitch when you call us... not the other way around :)

  • I have been on the phone with Sympatico every day for 2 weeks and they still can't find the problem.

They have sent me to modems because the idiots that work on tech support thought it was the modem. As I am still have the problem they were wrong........again !!!!

    They are such liers...........

  • Bell is absolute CRAP!! I used to use there high speed internet and it was so slow it wasen't even funny. One time it wasen't online for almost a month.

  • Unfortunately Rogers is worse, so what are you gonna do.

  • Also your "testing" proves nothing. You can't tell whether you are getting appropriate bandwidth from torrents or not, since that is subject to how much bandwidth seeders have allocated, not just w/e throttling one might assume. ie: maybe there are 92 seeders but you only get 15kb/s, sometimes you only get 15, sometimes you get 500kb/s and it would have nothing to do with ISP-end throttling.

  • I downloaded identical torrents at the exact same time with Bell & Rogers. Exact same seeders and leechers, healthy torrents with a 2 to 1 seeder to leecher ratio, with Bell I am lucky to get 25kbps while with Rogers I get 125-150kbps. I ran my test yesterday, both computers had XP Sp3. The Rogers computer was a P4 2.4Ghz, 512kb cache, 512MB RAM while the Bell computer was Intel dual core 2.10 Ghz 3MB cache and 4000MB RAM. So the Bell computer had the advantage by far but was much slower.

  • I run Bell's most expensive package and easily get 700kb/s dl, but my upload bandwidth is limited to 75kb/s.

A couple of years ago when I was on Rogers most expensive package I was sometimes pulling in 2mb/s and uploads just as fast the other way.

The difference is when you go down one tier in the package offerings, Bell tapers off gradually and Rogers immediately spikes down hardcore. Most people don't buy the most expensive package, so draw your own conclusions.

  • Radeo, I love you! Tinytory proves his lack of knowledge on networks and how the infrastructure works. The 1GB download test is farcical, same goes for his P2P test. In regards to P2P, Bell only throttles at certain times. I know, I have Sympatico. Download speeds from sites (and P2P) as you state, depends on many other factors. Making him understand this is difficult. And why in the world would anyone order 16Mmbps service at $100/mth for home use? No internet servers hit those speeds.

  • Maybe Bell can start selling Quality of Service. What happened to Net neutrality?

Maybe slowing down voice packets can put Bell back to a monopoly.

  • huh. slowing voice packets.?

if im not wrong bell is the only one filetering voice packets. so why bother going with them. they are ass. the easyist way to leave them is to stop paying they will leave you XD

  • except that only about 1/2 of bell's total bandwidth capacity is actually used. Mysteriously bell started selling downloads the same time they started throttling. Coincedence? I think not

  • Another BAD Story about Bell Canada...

But i think we forget that: Cogeco Cable Do same technique on different PORT, Videotron seem to be OK for most port, but throlling a specific web Site or not is very hard to tell...

What ever all big buisness seem to think that they have to make more money year after year, and that is not possible in a sence, thay call this expantion, so this throlling is all about that, take money from Information Provider, as Bill Gate told: Images is Futur Money.

  • i have posted a reply to this video which allows you to bypass the throttling.... check it out, it worked for me.

  • Iv'e got a better one PHONE THE CUNTS IN INDIA AND SWEAR AT THEM until you get someone english then mabey you can understand them enough to find out anything you need to know but first you gotta go through 30 Indians who cant speak english and are arrogant cunts.

  • Bell is now throttling other ISP's that use their network. That's right. They've capped P2P speed at 25Kb/s, and even though I'm with another ISP, they use Bell's network, so I'm affected. Solution? There isn't an immediate one, but I'm hurting them back: I'm changing my landline provider. Bell can go suck an egg.

  • second day on the phone with them

Now i got on the internet chat they wont do shit.

  • Just so you know, a 16 meg service means 16 megabits per second, not megabytes. 16 megabits = 2 megabytes per second. The 300 displayed in your IE is megabytes per second.

Yes, 300k is not close to 2 megabytes, but technically you're wrong in that you expected 16 megabytes.

In addition, the speed is also limited by how fast the server sends it to you. So for your timeshift demo, the server may decide to cap you at 300, so you never know.

I gotta say that I use Bell, and I do think it sucks.

  • I TOTALY FREAKIN AGREE WITH YOU!!! ALL DAY TODAY YOUTUBE IS SOO FREAKIN SLOW.. BELL MUST NOW BE THROTTLING IT TOO!!!! JESUS F CHRIST!!! WHY DONT THEY JUST THROTTLE ALL THE INTERNET, SO WE WILL ALL BE BACK TO DIALUP SPEEDS!!! and end up paying $400 a month for true high speed! THIS IS PURE BS!!

  • I agree that Sympatico has horrible throttling and if there was a choice I would switch instantly (I know there are Bell resllers like teksavvy, but now Bell has started to throttle them as well)

But you are paying for 16 megaBITS per second

Which is roughly equal to 2 megaBYTES per second. And then you have to account for TCP overhead (The amount of traffic used to communicate with servers, other than data). My guess is that you are downloading from slow servers, I get 500kB/s on my symp.

  • Great video.

Dugg it and reviewed in stumble. Lets promote this video. Take action now.

What is more scary is the fact Bell previously blocked customers from viewing a telecommunications union website, when they were on strike. So its not just throttling but censorship

  • Take action against these companies who are trying to control our Internet.

Do it now or we will all lose.

Digg and stumblers promote this video

  • to the people thinking that they are slowing just p2p that is bollox cant even watch this video took 5 minutes for this video to load try phoning and get a cunt who cant speak english. all internet is slowing.

  • haha!!

  • i watch nhl center ice during the regular season and pay 200 bucks for that .. but rogers now wants to charge anything over 60 gigs.. even if i watch 2 games a week i'll be at 60 gigs. (it's about 2 gigs streaming for a 3 hour game).. i average 100 gigs with gaming and hockey games and youtube watching.. they tout all these things but i'll have to pay out of my ass

  • How come every time I dl anything off of xbox live marketplace, it comes down in seconds....these are files r sometimes near a 1GB and take literally secs...on the other hand I try to dl off btjunkie an average movie file (around 700 mb ) and it can take up to a day sometimes!!!! Are they throttling torrent sites in hopes of curbing pirated wares? And to anyone that has a problem with dling torrents such as movies...games,etc...next time someone offers you a free lunch you better say "no"!!!

  • if no one fills complaints .. nothing will move .. so i took 15 minutes of my time and filled a few forms including the phone numbers you included in this excellent video.

    Thank you very much sir.

and have a good day :P

  • I'm going to play devil's advocate here. They are throttling P2P file sharing. We all know that P2P is used 90% of the time to download pirated data. It seems that people are bitching because the throttle impedes their ability to download pirated content. Before you ask, no I do not work for Bell.

  • P2
