  • Class no.1 song

  • Isn't that ABBA at least 'playing' singers? I'm old, but I think I remember what they look like.

  • ABBA is the reason that this song is so good, even though they're "back-up." Another example of this is Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me."

  • @Slumpnasty Keyboards & synthesizers: Benny Andersson Bass: Rutger Gunnarsson Lead guitar: Lasse Wellander Drums: Per Lindvall Backing vocals: Anders Glenmark and Karin Glenmark Arrangement: Benny Andersson and Anders Eljas Conductor: Anders Eljas Engineer: Michael B. Tretow Producer: Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Tim Rice

  • @jmcinvale I'm wrong? Dammit! Thanks for the correction.

  • @Slumpnasty

You're welcome. What led me to check is I could not hear a woman's voice in the background vocals.

  • Funny that Mike Tyson is much better.

  • that song not was in gta vice city???

  • The intro to this song has to be up there with the birth of jesus, Manchester United losing 6-1 and sliced bread.

  • One of those guys look like Chuck Norris O_o

  • So meets we again 240p...

  • @THEentireX and Mono sound back to the 50s

  • The Hangover II

  • love!!

  • I love that they do baking vocals. Must taste so much better than their usual vocals.

  • @calleroev

    Well they don´t!!!

The backing and the refrain are sung by the siblings Anders and Karin Glenmark. Also known as Gemini.

  • does this song make anyone else want to go and see what Bangkok is really like?

  • <3 FLUTE <3 2:03

  • Undoubtedly one of the best dance songs of the 80s. It reminds me of my own carefree youth, how I used to dance to this song with my schoolmates, had so much fun. What a sweet memory.;)

I didn't know that there were two official videos made for this song. This is the first time I see this version. Thanks for posting.:)

  • Murray Seafield Saint-George Head, is a British actor and singer. He is the older brother of Anthony Head (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Both brothers have played the part of 'Freddy Trumper' in the musical 'Chess' at the Prince Edward Theatre, London, with Murray a part of the original cast in 1986, whilst Anthony was in the final cast in 1989. Despite members of ABBA being in this video, the original backing singers are: Anders Glenmark and Karin Glenmark.

  • I dont miss stuff like this , from the 80'tis

  • rip zyzz

  • Try following this song up with the theme from the Neverending Story. They almost go hand in hand. Just don't watch the actual video for heaven's sake.

  • 0:40 musics starts

  • So what was the musical about?

  • So I was listening to this on CD and when we turned the CD off the radio was playing this song in almost the same spot this song left off on the CD

  • Did Björn, Benny & Frida actually sing backing vocals on the studio recording? I know Björn and Benny got a hand writing this song (music) along with Tim Rice (lyrics).

  • WHAT THE HELL THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK FROM ABBA ?

NO WONDER IT SONG SO GOOD.

  • We play this song in my orchestra. Really nice beat :)

  • This is one of the greatest party anthems!!

  • Love the song, love the video. Every time I start to enjoy it, a little circly thing appears in the middle of the screen and the music and the video comes to a stop. Maddening. Do I need to send them money or something? This never happpens during a VEVO commmercial.

  • 32 people work up hungover in Bangkok.

  • 1:36 my favorite part. Just how he says "Above the waistline" makes me laugh like a fool. haha

  • This song is an excellent example of the really quite awful talky style of "rapping" from the early 80s.

  • what is all the trumphant thai music with clashing anf flutes at the beginning? for 25 years Ive never known.

  • Gotta love baking vocals ;)

  • Thanks for this beautiful video. If no objections... I have a link to it on my website (chess33.com)

  • Where is Agnetha? I guess it was just Murray head with BBA.....

  • Mike tyson killed this song for me!

  • @B1ushMoe - I feel the same...=(

  • I liked mike tyson's version better

  • @XlaceratedX fuck you

  • Песня и хореография супер !!!

  • This is really good. I love the music and gives me a high :):)

  • dali postoji originalni snimak, C p b u j a

  • you know, in the annals of history, there have been some amazing songs written on the subject of transexuals, this is, far and away, the cream of the crop

  • The drums sound like Simmons SDS5 electronic drums, which were popular at the time.

  • zajarałem się tą piosenką teraz jak reaktor w Japonii:)

  • This video sux so bad, it probably explains why Chess was never a success.

  • @NorceCodine

If the musical Chess was not a success, how do you explain the high amount of songs from the said musical sung by famous vocalists all around the globe?

  • ABBA singing backup?

  • @torchwoody58 yeah I just spotted ABBA as well

  • @torchwoody58 I do believe that you are right. I never would have picked that out!

  • @torchwoody58

    Nope not ABBA

  • the chick can kick high.

  • What's the name of the first part of the song (instrumental)?

  • @QueenCoconuthead

The instrumental is called "Bangkok" which is also from the musical score from Chess.

  • used to be so obsessed with this song as a kid, my dad used to play it in the car all the time lol

  • hey my ballet school did dis 4 chess last year (i wasn't in it T_T) all ov da little ones loved it =D

  • that's really ABBA, isn't it?! Never knew, but it makes sense. Any Yes connections? Reminds me a bit of Owner of a Lonely Heart.

  • @skygarden Agnetha wasn't part of this though :)

  • @skygarden ya the musical was by ABBA

  • epic

  • not really, in fact, Murray Head sings the verses, sounding like some "rap", and the Chorus melody is performed by Swedish pop singer Anders Glenmark. The guys from ABBA wrote that song with Tim Rice, but they never sing, neither do the girls from ABBA. We see them in the video ( except Agnetha ) only for the fun of it.

  • @walkerfanclub The fourth person in the chorus is Anders sister Karin. Just so you know.

  • Can I just point out that Marray Head didn't sing a note in this song - it was mainly Anders Glenmark. It says so in 'Bright Lights, Dark Shadows'.

    Also, YAY! Abba!

  • ITS ABBA on background!!!

  • @Lerssinen It's 75% of ABBA.

  • the intro to this song is awesome...Does anyone know if it is from something else, or was it written for this tune exclusively...cheers

  • That one side singer looks like Tim Taylors wife

  • OMG I didn't know it was ABBA that sang the background music!!

  • @UnclaimedTreasure The guy from ABBA wrote it

  • @UnclaimedTreasure Technically, they didn't. This footage has been dubbed with the original recording which features Lasse Wellander, Bjorn Jason Lindh, Anders Eljas, and Murry Head. The only member of ABBA who backed the track was Benny Andersson.

  • I agree I cannot stand that club crap, it kills it for the original

  • interresting :-)

  • good song

  • cool song, choreography, and Frida! :))

  • what beat song rocks all over the fucking place

  • I like the Adam Pascal version.

  • personally like vinylshakers type of music, but i like original too ;)

  • Abba and chess.

  • gay... very gay...

  • Ahhh this is from the play (dad told me it did no do well) but the song was an 80's hit...I can't help to bounce around every time I hear it....Hard to do when in the car......

  • The dancing is super. Check out how high the lady can do a high kick. Look close and you can see Benny, Frida and Bjorn lip syncing Have I sent this before, i might have,

  • the songs of 2000+ totally suck i just like 100 of them i think and thoose under 2000 i like more than 500

  • @Kevinhoo50 Are you sure you thought that statement through? There are a lot more years before 2000 than after.

  • I saw this musical yesterday - on Danish though. But damn, it was awesome!

  • So do I have this right? Murray Head is a person and not the name of the band, the band is called Chess...

  • @starkid77 - Well not quiet. Murray Head is a person yeah and he is one of the singers in Chess. But Chess is not a band, it's a musical ;)

  • @swissprincess1974

It may help to know that Murray Head is the brother of one Anthony Stewart Head (Giles from "Buffy the Vampire" slayer series.)

  • @swissprincess1974 theres only 2 songs in chess, lol

  • @swissprincess1974 @starkid77 im confused!??

  • @mybrokenheartforyou Chess is a musical/rock opera, and Murray Head is playing one of the leads. Does that help?

  • @msmwkc ah ok so u mean to say chess is a name of a musical opera group.just wanted to confirm the diference between a band and musical group.so u mean to say murray head does not belong to any band, but instead he belongs to a musical group?k, tnx!

  • @mybrokenheartforyou Closer! Murray Head would be an actor, and Chess is just a musical, kind of like Phantom of the Opera. There's no real "group" to Chess, it's pretty much just a stageplay with music.

  • @msmwkc I see i thought Murray Head was an artist of a band. Thnx for letting me know...;) hmmn just wondered Murray Head prefered to perform in a musical rather than a band hehe...

  • oh yes so he's a singer and actor that's why he prefer musical rather than band...

  • @starkid77 Chess is actually a musical, this is a song from that stage show

  • @starkid77 ooh!!! so close!!

  • @starkid77 i think chess was the name of a musical

  • @starkid77 The musical is called Chess. It's not a band...

  • @starkid77

It's ABBA singing in the background of this musical with Murray Head lead vocalist of Chess singing the lead.

  • Now it ain't. The background is sung by Anders Glenmark. Benny may be playing the keyboards and Björn co-producing, but there's no Frida nor Agnetha.

  • @suhonmi Is too.

  • this is the version that went to the British version of the show I believe. The American version isn't quite this good.

  • @mambocoder whos on the flute

  • you know its people like you that really piss me off.its not easy to get me upset boy,but i tell you this, you have touched a nerve with me!

  • Why was the Philippines mention and not Thailand? Do they even know the city is in Thailand lol.

  • @VS257 Uhm, they do! But they say "Siam", which is the older name for Thailand. Did you even know that? ;)

  • @VS257 Philippines was mentioned because a real world championship match took place there

  • all the videos of this classic are great, but I pick this one as the ultimate video. Totally awesome

  • Good Song

  • abba make the coro???? o my god for that ABBA is, was, and be the great great band! oy mi life

  • Good song..but I found the video a big let down

  • One night in Bankok <3

  • Hehehe....Ulveus and Andersson still rooooooocccccckkkkkkkkkksssssss!

  • do U fools even know that bangkok is the capital beyond the promised land thailand!!!! NOT SHITTY CHINA!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Thimmy85 LOL at capitol "beyond the promised land." More like Whore Central. Sailors refer to Thailand as "Gizzneyland."

But, yeah, Bangkok is not in shitty China.

  • does anyone know who is the woman dancer in this video?

  • @SuperDubtube why would u want to no that u pedo

  • wow omg this song is amazing lol pease out john sprout

  • One of the best song ever... and guess who are the the composers...

  • @Samuli68 Who?

  • OMG I've had the Vinylshakerz track on my ipod for 4 years and had no idea it was derived from a song from Chess!

  • CHINAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

  • I get my kicks above the neckline, Sunshine!

  • They should be rollin like little rats in tha mud

  • I've watched this a dozen times and am amazed at how good it is. The song is great. I want to mention the dancing is superb. Especially the woman dancing. Her flexibility and the elevation of her kicks is incredible.

  • @Lockemeister yes superb, just like your mother ahhhhhh. those were the good old days.

  • stumbled across this in world geography class

    BEST STUMBLE EVER

perfect harmony it just lifts your spirits

  • its good. I didnt know what to expect only having heard the vynilshakers take on it.

  • this song sucks

  • great music

  • omigod. <3 Benny, Björn, and Frida! I never knew, but always knew there was a reason I loved this song so much as a kid.

  • The turmoil in Thailand has me thinking of this video. How sad. The world seems to be going upside down. Earthquake in China. Volcanic eruption in Iceland.

    Me smells trouble ahead.

  • I love this song ...and dispise this video

  • @Dominicus3 I know what you're saying I love your mom and dispise you, since you remind me of someone she used to poke back in the day.

  • @thincow12 Scientist?

  • @anschy27 falco never covered this song

  • Nice :D

  • Hahahahhaa I love it.

  • that was ABBA doing back uo holy shit!

  • @justaman6972 don't know why the description says ABBA did the backing vocals.

Anders Glenmark did the backup vocals, some of ABBA's members wrote the song, and in this video, they just lipsyncing for the video.

  • @justaman6972 yes, three of four former ABBA members were singing the background choir...

  • fuck the club mix

  • @spacexploder too right!

  • @spacexploder Keep your mouth to yourself.

  • @spacexploder

    YES MAN! it sucks!

  • What is this video from? Is there a DVD of the musical?

  • @moonlight293

There is a recording of a concert version of it.

Which basically means, they filmed the actors singing the songs and they semi-acted through the play.

  • I love the song but the choreography was apparently arranged by someone who knew nothing about chess, nor martial arts, nor Asia as a whole.

  • @mubirshu I love it when you just shut the heck up.

  • This really surprised that Benny and Bjorn wrote this- who knew they were capable of such an edgy collaboration? I love this song :)

  • @psychokitty93 Let's not forget the brilliant Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita) who wrote the lyrics.

  • This song is about chess and hookers hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha double meaning I can dig it this song is the shit synthesizors need to make a comeback hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • I get my kicks above the waist line, sunshine :)

  • Unfortunately, the lead singer eventually contracted squaids, and loss his ability to sing.

  • @thincow12 wats squaids??

  • Squaids is a latent retro virus that affects squirels. Virus can be passed on to murines, canines and felines but not leprae. Humans contact it fro pets. Erronously diagnosed as strept. Proteasee inhibitors is the standard treatment.

  • @thincow12

BULL - FUCKING - SHIT. There is absolutely no fucking such thing as "SQUAIDS" ( or, "squirrel AIDS"). Ray William Johnson came up with and regularly references it in his routines. Its a recurring in-joke, used in a number of his episodes.

Murray Head - the singer - is alive and well and continues to act, perform, AND sing, you fucking dumb-ass piece of shit.

INSTEAD OF POSTING UTTER FUCKING BULLSHIT AND LIES, DO SOME GODDAMNED RESEARCH, YOU IGNORANT FUCK-TARD.

  • @ClubQBall You summed that up very well, Thank you sir.

  • @valgehiir I on the other hand get them below the waist line with your sister Juanita.

  • lol dis is fukkin epic hahahahaha!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL 1984 white rap! hahahahaha EPIC

  • I've got the vinyl record of this!!

  • you're awesome

  • @teknokem and I got your sister with a latex condom.
