At first, when I listened to this certain song, I was just so 100% positive that Tom Petty of Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers WAS THE LEAD SINGER OF THIS SONG!!
How disappointing to actually find out it is NOT Tom Petty after all!!
But, nonetheless, it is still 1 hell of a very good song, even if Tom Petty is NOT singing lead vocal on it!!
But, every single time, I hear this certain song, it was reminds me of none other than Tom Petty!!
This is a great song and deserves alot of recognition. Women and drinking is a very real problem but the 'functionals' hide just like this woman...dying but nobody knows.
Can we please have old Canadian Rock back, honest rock from honest musicians. How were we supposed to know that was as good as it was going to get. Music today sucks and is perhaps our punishment for how bands like the Northern Pikes were treated.
My boyfriend, now ex went home and posted this to me after the explicit Soldier song by Eminem. Nice, alone Valentine's Day again and haven't seen him since. His loss!!!
This is gonna sound sad but when I was 8 I first heard this song about 4 am in the morning on much music and my mom was passed out on the couch and now this song reminds me fo my moms drinking problem sad but true thats all I have got to say....:(
I forgot what these guys looked like with long hair. I saw them do a reunion show and they sounded the same as when I first saw them as a kid at the Saskatoon EX.
The video is great actually. I miss the artsy style videos of the 1990s. Now all we have is pimps, hos, and emo kids. Where are the artistic videos like this, or Jeremy or a million other early 90s songs?
I did get that, but it's not quite spelled out for you in the lyric. The video proves my hunch though that indeed it deals with alcoholism. Great song, great band. Jay Semko's solo work is great too. Greetings from a Dutch fan!
@baddaktor I'm not sure if they are currently active but you can fine their web site at "thepikes.com". There's a really good song on the front page named "Blame The Song". They also did an album with Les Stroud whom many know as "Survivorman".
I think this may just be my favorite Pikes video. It's so great to see them perform in it. They have an awesome group dynamic. You can really tell they're having fun. And the backup singer is great, isn't she?
I grew up with a dub of a dubbed tape of the Pikes and we played it until it could not be played anymore. I had no idea that they had vids and that they were so big in Canada.
Great song from an under appreciated group.Check out Teenland.

They had a great jANgLy quality to their tunes..a lot like The Rainmakers of the same era. Solid band from Regina. Always liked them.

The way this song is sung, it reminds me of Tom Petty because of the slight warble in the lead singer's voice.
Definitely a neat fusion of styles.
Its a real pity the Northern Pikes were not more commercially successful.
Today's music fan base is rather degraded. I'm glad I grew up back when music still had good content to it.
