Ummmm.. have you ever read the quran, the holy quran is about 50percent history of other prophets, people and events... And your citation of surah 9:verse 5 is correct exactly as you stated it.. however you forgot to quote the verses before it.. so ill take it upon myself to clear things up.. if you read the begining of the chapter which is only 4 verses... the verses are directed at the muslims living in arabia at that time, who had a treaty with the pagans (which the pagans broke)

allah is telling the muslims because they broke the treaty give them 4 months to correct or honor it, if they still havent then (verse 5) slay and kill them whereever you may find them...
