  • You don't need a default gateway if you are on the same network. Example: 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2, netmask 255.255.255.0. They don't need a gateway to talk to each other.

  • My comp connected to rescue router via console cable and ethernet cable-what supposed to be a default gateway for both? Thanks

  • hey, just looked at this vid, and have a 3620 that wont boot at all, I pulled both flash cards and am using putty to connect via console/serial db9 and get nothing, is there at least a bootstrap in a nvram area that I can get to rommon.. any help would be apprciated, bought off ebay a week ago and no IOS on the flash cards... need help gettin into router and finding an IOS to reload.. thnx

  • @CoolUnderFire21 call TAC and get an RMA. But seriously, the problems you describe are what I would consider hardware failure. I've never rescued equipment messed up that bad, it's not worth the time.

  • nice tutorial.

    5/5

  • after performing this method, my system will not load any newly saved startup-configs. Do you have any recommendations?

  • Sounds like an NVRAM issue. Call TAC to replace the hardware.

  • Everything was working fine and dandy before I mistakenly erased my IOS image. Not so sure TAC is the way to go..?

  • So the router comes up, am I correct?

From there, if you change the hostname and do a 'wr mem' will it show up in 'show start'?

Now if you reboot it, it should load startup from NVRAM... is this where it fails? Do you at least get a 'router>' prompt?

  • Everything shows up in the 'show start', and I get a Router> prompt and full functionality. I can erase nvram and save to it, but the config with the new changes (for example: changing the hostname to R3) will never be saved, and I am always prompted with the start up wizard.

  • sounds like ur config register is not set up correctly. Do show ver and see what the config register is set to.

  • cool

  • This will probably come in handy one day, thanks!

  • Very very good....

Just what I was looking for
