  • Absolutely Brilliant, I play this as often as I can.

    Thanks for posting.

    :)

  • Growing up in the 60s my parents would repeatedly play this tune and Glen Millers American Patrol on 78rpm records on our gramophone. Wonderful memories of them dancing in the living room, ballroom style.

  • As kids in the late 40's we would play this terrific tune over and over . We were told that to reach the high note near the ending they had to make an extra hole in the clarionet . We were only kids , maybe the were pulling our legs . An Aussie

  • wasn't the drummer the legendary jean crouper who was a wild one like Keith moon but more talented?

    t

  • Still the greatest in 2011 for me - such memories Jabala

  • I love the buildup of the rolling drums at the end. It is the only drumming I can replicate in my head, it seems to have a tune of its own.

  • Does somebody knows who's playing the trumpet?

  • what does age gotta do with anything who cares if you are 12,16, 62 if you are trying to impress someone its a waste of time.

  • I am 16 and I love this.

  • Carlson one of the very best ever! Forget the displays just listen to him driving the band along on some of the flagwavers. The guy was awsome. I believe he left Herman because they played too "loud"

  • I'm 62 now and I remember playing this so many times on my parents "what ever" over 50 years ago. It was one of my favourites. Still love it today.

So much lost as old 78s were tossed out or converted to flower pots.

  • This could be a new routine for The City of Bundaberg Drum Corps. We are practising right now.

  • They just don't make music like they used to.

  • And oohh, from 2:20 the climb up to that long, high pitch of the final licorice stick note! Goose bumps!!!!!

  • And oohh, that long, high pitch of the final licorice stick note! Goose bumps!!!!!

  • youre kidding me???? it doesnt stop there! noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

3.11 are you kidding me???? It needs to be played endlessly!

  • The drummer on the recording is Frankie Carlson. The drummer in the photo is Don Lamond.

  • Forgot how fanatastic this was. I had this on 78 before my step father gave it away with my victrola, thinking it was his.

  • Brings back great memories - Gene Krupa was the best ever drummer!

  • For rare glimpse of Frankie Carlson, see "Woody Herman Orchestra "Doctor Jazz" 1939.

  • I think you will find that the drummer is Dave Tough

  • Love it! One of my very favorites!!!!

  • Absolutely gorgeous.. as brilliant as Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa. Thrilling and spine-tingling as Falconer said.

  • Clarinet ending on a high note after a great drum solo....

    mighty fine.

  • I'm going to Burlesque to this one!

  • My dad's band played this in Ka lgoorlie in the 50's. Shame no info on Frankie Carlson on the net.

  • This is so good! I play it nearly every day, I think it is the best number of its kind ever recorded. the drumming is fantastic.

  • @tullocho I think you will find that the drummer is Dave Tough

  • @tullocho what a great sound & isn't that drumming fantastic.I can still remember my school friend in 1957 playing this on his drum kit to practice. All that practice was justified as he became a very good drummer, touring all over the world & backing such artists as Milt Jackson,Joe Henderson,Gary Burton,Sonny Stitt etc. Also played with Don Burrows. His name is Alan Turnbull & he lives in Sydney,Australia.Good luck,Alan.

  • @music1831 I forgot to say that Alan played with the Don Burrows Quartet performing at Montreux Jazz Festival,Newport Jazz Festival & Carnegie Hall.

  • the drummer in the photgraph looks like Don Lamond who drummed with Woody from late 1945. The drummer on the version of Golden Wedding which we hear, was Frankie Carlson. , It was recorded on Decca in 1940.

  • Spine tingling jazz at it's best.ell done donczCarlos, you are the one.

  • holy **** this is awesome. had a cd with this waayyy back. Glad someone put it up in youtube. so so awesome

  • This is the original and the BEST... brilliant form all players, the drums sensational Louis....?? was the drummer...

    Sensational...

  • @allourdogs Frank Carlson on drums, I always thought. Unless it was in the Dave Tough years?
