  • Damn right right I just want to play some guitar!

  • let me just point out to all the john mayer haters that TOMMY EMMANUEL admitted that he is a fan of his work. and tommy's a GOD

  • Hey! Anthony...what kind of pick up are you using...thinking about getting new pick ups for my guitar...your playing and lessons are awesome..thank you so much...localbyzs...

  • man very very nice , i just think it would be awesome ,if stead of teach note by note ,u just put the tab and play slow it would be a lot fast and easyer to learn

  • @razorgif tabs are for suckers.

  • Thanks for keeping the discussion civil. Now, if you want to learn this lick, keep watching. If you want to argue about John Mayer and whether or not he's any good, take your arguments to one of the many forums. They'd be glad to have you. Do not discuss it here. This is a guitar lesson.

  • Awesome video. You playing in 1/2 down threw me off at first haha.

  • this is of couse a Gibson Les Paul.

  • @dreamquarter i dont think so it looks more like a fender jaguar and because of the single coil pickups, both of them are muchos awesome guitars though! =D

  • @dreamquarter you are joking of course :)

  • you wouldn't happen to have the tab for this would you?

  • i love your guitar

  • wish u played in standard tuning man lol

  • @gr8bluesgtr PLEASE cover the monster lick JM uses at 1:19 in that video!

  • you should do 1:28 - 1:24 of the john mayer video - i like this though !

  • sweetness

  • i like your guitar

  • Awesome man!

really appreciate this, I remember seeing this and I thought it was awesome, but I couldn't figure it out, so thanks dude!

  • In what key is this?

  • HI! WHERE IS THE VIDEO YO SOID ABOUT JOHN MAYER PLAYING HIS LICKS IN DIFFERENT POSTION IN GUITAR??

  • @rainbowmonkey64 that would mean his guitar is tuned half a step down, right? =)

  • I need a lighter gauge e-string for them nasty bends! Thanks for the lesson! Got alot from it :)

  • @nox1sxmessenger dont go to light or you will snap them. 10 is good. :)

  • @joshua9312 Thx, ill probly only go lighter by .1 difference. and if i dont like that then continue with the trial and error.

  • he plays a half step down in all his videos, check them out, he is an awesome guitar player who can actually teach stuff too

  • absolutely. i've been enlightened more from these videos and youtube people in general then any lesson i ever took as a kid. mind you i got frustrated and eventually quit then.

  • excellent lesson.......SUBSCRIBED!

  • what kind of guitar is that? and it sounds better to me than a strat btw

  • jazzy! way cool dude. thanks

  • that would be a half step down. but yes he is.

  • Very cool, thanks for this

  • i'm pretty sure the very first lick is from john's vid "for the playaz"

  • Yeaah, it's the first lick of the 'something for the playaz' vid, with a "slower flow", very well observed!!

  • something for the playaz

  • Looks like he's in half step because John plays it on the fith. But good job man keep it up!

  • nice nice nice .

    i think you need a strat or 335 . ;) haha !

  • AGREED

  • very good lesson, i see your trying to get ppl to get the 'feel'

  • whats that intro and outro of you live in all of your vids? its awesome. do you cats still play? what song is that that ur doing?

  • your skill amazes me !!! keep on rockin'

  • thanks for the lesson Steve, I think your other strat sounds better, but the body on that one looks cool. Take good care.peace!!!!!!

  • awesome video! gonna check your channel for some hendrix if you dont got some then please make a video!

    anyways, i loved the video...

  • that was great. you should do more videos like this.

  • Peter Green is the KING of this type of playing, in my opinion.

  • Hey anthony, could you post the video where john mayer plays the lick?

  • Try mayermusic its on there, mayermusik is also cool.

  • you'll find it in the related videos on this page, it's titled "Something for the playaz" by mayermusic

  • Hey Anthony. I have watched many of the lessons. I know you have the Blues Jr. NOS and I just bought a new one yesterday. I love it but, there is one sort of defect on mine, I think its a defect at least. When I play a note and the low E string and hold it out, the amp starts to kinda crackle. I wanted to ask if yours does that too or if mine is defected in some way.

  • That doesn't sound normal. I would take it in to the store and have them check if the tubes are seated properly and that the speaker is connected solidly.

  • sounds like stevies cover of bb's done lost your good thing now.... good lesson, i always played it in the other box.. but this sounds better

  • John Mayer has some real blues skillz

Has anybody heard that "Axis bold as love cover"?

Seriously that's the song that earned my respect.

This lick sounds so cool and it's pretty easy.

Thanks for the yet another great lesson.

    Peace!

  • Exactly! He is a modern day guitar genius..and somehow, people call him a douchebag =/ envious, i guess

  • I know some people don't like him as a person, but how anyone can not like his playing is beyond me. I just assume they're envious, or not knowledgeable enough to realize the small things he's doing that are so hard to master.

  • Agree 100%.

  • that's a hendrix song

  • Yeah I know, and guess what

    "All along the watchtower"

is a Bob Dylan song....so whats your point?

John still played a great cover.

  • I'm not sure he was trying to be argumentative, but anyway, those are all great cover songs. The point could be made that some artists best songs are cover songs :-)

  • yes, indeed he played great. just wanted you to know that Jimi came up with that and John makes it alive today. :-)

  • Ditto this, his blues chops are unquestionable after hearing that, and after seeing him do a solo electric version here on youtube his overall music chops are unquestionable also. Wish all the celebrity stuff didn't colour people's opinion of a great guitarist who's brought blues to the mainstream.

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • Nice video man! By the way, where's the Fender Kenny Wayne Shepherd? You still like it?

  • Oh yeah, I still like it. That's my "upstairs-by-the-TV" guitar that I play unplugged to keep my hands in shape. I should bring it down and use it in a lesson again.

  • I love John Mayers smooth style of Blues, thanks so much!

  • wow funny. it makes me smile that i saw that same john mayer video. If you saw it then clearly i'm looking in the right places, being struck by the right playing, and i'm heading in the right direction as a musician.

  • What guitar is that?

  • Custom made guitar ... he has a video on it..

  • nice one :D

i got another little lick mayer plays that sounds awesome in my opinion, it would be cool if u made a lesson on it. but even if u dont, check it out:

  • Ahhh i'm such a sucker for JM Blues licks.

    Awesome lesson!

  • Hey man this is an awesome lesson! I'm an avid visitor of the john mayer musician forum and I think that if you made videos of his rythm and lead guitar playing you would have quite a bit of business, i know i'd buy them. Anyways cheers and good luck with all of your future endeavours with steviesnacks.

  • Nice Men
