There are certainly some inaccuracies in this, and I hate that they call her a "tragedy" when she did not like this term, but this is fairly explanatory for such a short biography, and it is therefore worth watching.
Nothing has changed... Gay men and drug addicted woman having babies that they can't raise ... What else is new? Sounds like Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston... drugs drugs drugs and babies...
Judy Garland used to complain that she wasn't pretty as Lana Turner, and that she wasn't glamorous. I WOULD LOVE TO LOOK LIKE JUDY!! I wish I could have told her how BEAUTIFUL she was and how tons of girls would love to look like her! I mean look at her gorgeous eyes! and her perfect mouth! and don't get me started on that wonderful voice of hers...
judy was amazing i cant believe the studios gave her drugs to keep her weight down and put her to sleep and wake her up they should be ashamed of themselves
@MsFanmail i believe they should of just cast her, anyways, and give her the part, of dorothy in the wizard of oz,no matter what size she was,at the time, because the way i look at it,she was "beautiful" in the inside and out just the way she was. i don't even consider her as "FAT" and they shouldn't either.
@MsFanmail if they wanted her to lose weight so badly, they should of waited and give her time,be patience, and let her do it her own way, instead of doing it their way..i'm sure us fans would understand and still love her the way she was :) it's not about the looks, it's about their personality....get to know them an little bit more each day. i believe if it wasn't for them forcing her, i don't think she would be taking those other things like she did!
Gerald Clarke's "Get Happy" was nothing but trash. He re wrote the myths that surrounded Judy Garland. When he did write anything truthful, it was from material of other Authors. Clarke is said to be being sued because he used info about Judy from the memoirs of Judy's close friend & Makeup artist Dottie Ponedel. The best bio is from Gerald FRANK'S book "JUDY". it's the only book that interviewed Judy's family, friends & colleagues. He even interviewed Judy herself toward the end of her life.
Hmmmmm. "During her funeral, the upper east side of Manhattan was shut down with thousands of mourners." Lolz I'll bet it was...not a diamond sold that day.
Good God...MGM didn't have the "brilliant idea" of intentionally getting Judy "hopped up on diet pills"! They didn't have the knowledge of dependence and tolerance about uppers and downers back then. They were new pharmaceuticals and no one understood the dangers. No one. Hindsight is 20-20.
@gwin1962 Thank you! Nobody knew the longterm effects of these pills. And it was MGM, not Judy's much-maligned mother who began handing out the diet pills. Judy had an unusually addictive personality, and could never escape the treadmill. MGm treated Judy like a product--but that's what she was! A highly paid product. It wasn't very nice. but that's show biz--then and now.
@gwin1962 What you say is true but that does not absolve MGM of any responsibility. They were giving speed to a teenager. They started her on a path of substance abuse that lasted for the rest of her life. Has MGM ever issued an apology or even acknowledged what they did? No, they fired Judy and claimed her problems were of her own making. Her life became a nightmare thanks to MGM.
@MILISA99 Judy was on "pep" pills before MGM but it was at MGM in the mid 30's that they gave her the new medication Benzadrines which had an appetite supressant in them. Her Mother & MGM worked this young girl until she collapsed. From day one they tortured her with mind games about her looks. When a girl is a teenager & told she is ugly etc. then surrounded by hollywood's most gorgeous women added to Judy's self esteem problems. She seen herself as just a voice and a commodity.
thanks for posting this it's been years since I have seen it and have never been able to find it till now

@NFitalianGuy In the end, MGM lost lots of it's power and ended up bankrupt and making RoboCop reboots.
