I'm sure he did. He just didn't tell anyone about that. If you noticed in the movie, he seemed more inclined to be kind to the younger brother than the older one. In fact, he insults the older one and calls him "mouthpiece" at one point. I suppose he felt that he had a right to insult himself or something. He also knew when the older brother was wishing that he might be thinking of wishing his younger brother away. He knew that that because he had done it himself, and he was HIM!
