Science's Limitation and the Spiritual Dimension - Part 1

Science is not a religon. Science is always changing, always reconstructing, throwing out old theories and testing new ones. A person can bring in one piece of evidence that throws out a whole theory, and we have to start from scratch again to explain it. You never get that from religon. Religon is dogmatic, science is not. Religon is usually based on faith, science is based on the scientific method.

Science is limited to the natural world, and natural explanations. It does not bother with the supernatural as we can't test, observe, predict or falsify it. All these are important qualities with regards to the scientific method.

People who use science to explain/disprove the supernatural get themselves into trouble. It is not science itself that is the problem, but ignorant people who use science for/against any spiritual dimension.

Correct,But you make my point-in reverse-Those that use science to claim that there is no God,no soul,no non-physical consciousness and no spiritual dimension are likewise ignorant!

I think, I said it work both ways. Science should not be used *for or against* any supernatural/spiritual dimension, as it is something that falls outside the scientific method. But we basically agree.

Why do I want to waste my time watching creationist propaganda where Ben Stein confuses evolution with abiogenesis? Futhermore, many of the evolutionary biologists put on the show have been misqouted, and their sayings taken out of context. You want a fair and unbiased viewing, check out the Dover trial.

if you truly contemplate it, all scientific description and theory is occuring in an oberserver's mind. "Categories of perception"/descriptions of reality is not the same thing as reality. The "state of consciousness" is the only thing being experienced. And this can be without any description or labels. No one has ever ONE TIME stepped out of a state of consciousness to verify that these categories of scientific perception are real. Where does the energy that creates the subatomic come from?

I disagree. You compare science to religion as the same, or science as a type of religion.

Science is ever evolving, where religion is based on scripture that never morphs.

Science might bite more than it can chew, yet that's how it learns from a trial and error methodology. religion has no methodology. It expresses one thought that is written in stone for eons.

I agree with most of what I've seen in your postings, but for this one I have to disagree on.

I agree that science and religion are different. Science ever seeks and is evidence-based, whereas religion is rigid and it's answers all final. However there are similarities when it comes to an arrogant belief that it alone is correct. Religion: a non-believer can be ex-communicated. Science: a scientist who explores re-incarnation , soul,intuition,pre-cognition or telepathy is ostricized. When science proclims to rule out the existance of soul or consciousness it rveals it's fundamentalism.

Point taken, but I'm sure you realize that since Quantum physics has shown itself, with more and more scientists scratching their heads, they might one day realize that what they proclaimed as the end all regarding the soul or consciousness was wrong.

I personally don't believe in organized religion, but I am spiritual to an extent. Among other reasons, I'm more spiritual now than ever because of my long experience of lucid dreaming, which has totally changed the way I look at life.

Point taken. But you must realize since Quantum Physics has appeared on the scene, scientists have been a little more open, and maybe the die-hards will consider the soul as a real thing.

I don't prescribe to organized religion, but Iam spiritual for many reasons, but mostly because of my extensive experiences with lucid dreaming. It has totally changed my outlook at life.

I enjoy your posts, and wish I had more friends who had similar interests that I could peacefully debate with.

I agree that science can become arrogant. Case in point: global warming advocates. However, there's nothing wrong with "fundamentalism" when it's based in truth. Case in point: the gospel of Christ. Now I didn't say Catholicism or evangelical Christianity. If Christ is the "light" of the world as he proposed to be, do you not "fear" his admonishments to teachers and lawyers coming under stricter judgement for possibly leading their pupil astray? Please don't take this as an attack. Just curious.

You don't know the truth. No one can. No one knows what truth is. To say that you have the answer is dumb. There has never been a divine intervention that explains what truth is.

For thousands of years, god has not revealed himself. Until he does, protocol will be subjective, and subjective during this process.

James is very informed but lacking common sense. Leave it up to ordinary folks who despise their life wondering what went wrong.

Without explaining the "nature" of God, I humbly submit that science can indeed prove God, simply by pointing out that something has very real consequence in a way that clearly, demonstratably, defies the laws of nature, and should normally be considered illogical. Defying laws of nature means supernatural. For many people not beleiving in the "supernatural" is the only obstacle to their beleiving in a Supreme being.
