Do u know that he converted to islam only when he was 24?Before that he was a hindu..so islamic music did not really have a huge impact on him. His basic musical coaching was in karnatic music. And yes he learnt the islamic genre,but not in depth,just the elements,and western and all after that. Then he fused all with his basic foundation in music.

@psooryalall First of all music evolves over the years. you cant compare RD burman and Rahman because Burmans music was mostly based on north indian classical (hindustani). His knowledge was limited. Rahman was trained in more than 5 kinds of classical including western classical carnatic, and hindustani. I dont think R.D.Burman was a genius himself. there were way better composers than him at his time.

Burman is considered the greatest of all music composers the Indian film industry's ever had. @abhinaydro hey man, if u dont know then let me tell u dat RD is a graduate from trinity college of music in world music and western music. but the problem is dat during his time he was not having any softwares and their use to be live recordings. if any mistake happens the whole song has to be re-recorded. ofcourse rahman is a genius in his time but RD was also genius during dat time. dont blame anyone, they r 2 great musicians of india who cannot be compared..
