@mistanderson Vince would support anyone that wasn't WCW at the time. That is true since he knew ECW stars would become future WWE stars, Austin, Dudleys, Mick Foley. He did give ECW guys that he released, Bam Bam, Shane Douglas, Candido and others to balance it out.
Because Chris Candido could wrestle circles around Diesel or Sycho Sid. Because Shane Douglas could wrestle circles around the WWF's midcard in 1996. The WWF had its strengths, but ECW had its as well, and its happened to be WRESTLING. I don't remember the last time I saw a WWE match that made me take notice the way old ECW clips on YouTube still can. ECW wasn't trying to entertain us with characters and angles, that was Vince's cup of tea. Heyman gave us nothing but wrestling. And hardcore.
Chris Candido wasn't over. Period. That's why WWE jobbed him. The fact that he was a star in ECW just goes to show how inferior ECW was. Douglas was never that good. Read what Ric Flair had to say about him. "The franchise," my ass. Hardcore is garbage, not wrestling. Heyman gave us nothing but wrestling? That's a lie. ECW was full of sex and vulgarity. That's not wrestling. Pro wrestling needs characters and angles, and ECW had them. All wrestling feds have them.
I want to argue with you, but you had me at Chris Candido wasn't over. Still, I'd rather see a Candido match than a Sid match. When I say Heyman gave us wrestling and hardcore, I mean that the ECW vulgarity and obscenity was like Gagne's AWA or Mid-South compared to the WWF at the time. Nobody in ECW turned the lights on raising their arms or had their initials written in blinking lights on their hats,
I'm not going to go into this too much, simply because I'm not really interested in Chris Candido, but "the fact that he was a star in ECW just goes to show how inferior ECW was" is just such an inaccurate statement that I need to step in. Different promotions will feature different wrestlers prominently and I could just as easily say "the fact that Candido wasn't a star in WWE just goes to show how much their writing/booking sucked". Not necessarily true but some succeed, some don't.
ECW was a pile of shit with a bunch of jabronis in the main event. It went out of business. The WWE was always superior and always did better business. Get over it, fag.
lol wrestle in a bingo halls, monday night raw until about its 2nd anniversary took place in civic centres with a 500 person capacity, theatres, college gyms, and casino resort ballrooms...
My bad I thought it said British BulldogS plural, Dynamit was gone from WWF then and probably already in wheelchair...very sad. Read Owen's wif Martha's book it is a great read and how good a man Owen seemed to be...really didn't want to wrestle and only did it to set himself and family financially for a few years down the road. Very sad what happens to decent people.
What's really sad is that three of these talented performers are gone now. What a tremendous loss in the world of wrestling and the human family. R.I.P Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith and Chris Candido.
can someone explain why exactly vince macmahon let ecw do this invasion thing? it benefitted ecw but i can't see how wwe benefited, as ecw was a far superior "wrestling" promotion
check out the rise and fall of ECW DVD, McMahon explains all on there. He basically says it was just good for business, but Jerry Lawler agrees with your point and couldn't believe it
You know what the sad thing is? Owen wasn't half as famous as Bret was,and yet he was the far superior wrestler. No disrespect to Bret, but I think he was grossly overrated. Owen had the charisma AND the wrestling ability. RIP
Should have used Chris Candido as Chris Candido, not Skip.

People forget that Vince help out ECW. He invested in that company. Vince didn't destroy it.

Tazz was a complete flop in the big leagues (WWE). That's why they jobbed him to just about everyone.
Edgehead10075 2 years ago
they jobbed him because they already had stars in the mainevent that would have caused them to job them.
djcleanstylez 2 years ago
Tazz also lost to Jerry Lawler.
Edgehead10075 2 years ago
And he also beat Jerry Lawler (Former AWA Champ)
djcleanstylez 2 years ago
Yes, but he was reduced to feuding with a commentator. Lawler was a world champ once, but he was fifty years old during their feud.
Edgehead10075 2 years ago
True but the point that I'm making is that just because he's used poorly doesn't mean he's not a solid wrestler.
djcleanstylez 2 years ago
Was he used poorly, or was he just not that good or over compared to the rest of the roster?
Edgehead10075 2 years ago
Used poorly. Let's face it. does WWE always pick-up on using there talent ?
djcleanstylez 2 years ago
Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I don't think that WWE uses guys poorly.
Edgehead10075 2 years ago
Agreed. I love WWE but they drop the ball too often so we agree to disagree

If ECW was so great, why did they have worthless pieces of shit like Shane Douglas, Tazz, and Chris Candido in the main event?

@madmanszalinski do have to say that WWF did have it's gem matches. Undertaker vs. Mankind (yes I know Cactus Jack) in the Hell in a Cell match.
