Slick Tires (S-Tires) were prohibited after the first season as they are not road legal, after Nobuteru Taniguchi used them to win the championship in 2001. The series now only permits commercially available road tires approved by the organization.
no slick tires are allowed at any drift event, simply very good DOT spec tires specialy for drifting, and because D1 drift machines are fully tuned raced cars with 600+hp and full aero and weight reduction and sequential transmission

just 2 correct U, not all drift events allow slick tires.
D1SL doesn't allow them :P
and i know that that are also some other competitions that ban slick.

im pretty sure they arent allowed in ANY competitions, not even D1GP, they put bigger wider tires to go faster but the compound is not racing/slick
