ok i m a pakistan and i have one question to indians. Why do you feel that it's low standard to speak your native language hindi. I mean I understand it's always good to speak english and other languages that can be useful but what is the point of speaking it with your own people. Is it because you have a complex or is it because you find hindi a low standard language or the ruling of british's on indian including pakistan left the nation in a complex or what? Please dont be offended by it.

not just in india..even in my country Malaysia..most of the indians speak english..even among themselves..

well.. the real reason is that the British left the impression on India & Indians that being "educated" means knowing English! This had a subliminal but powerful effect on the Indian populace. Tamil & Sanskrit are India's two classical languages and most of the people in India don't speak either! LOL...

this is also why Tamilians rioted when the govt. enforced Hindi to become the national language as it is considered a "chota" language whereas Tamil is thousands of years old. Also, Tamil & Sanskrit are VERY DIFFICULT and in Ancient India (which included present day Pakistan), only the elite spoke Sanskrit.

Sure, but Hindi is spoken in 6 states - many more than any other language - so it was a rational choice for a national language. I'm from Kerala and speak Malayalam, but I'd much prefer to speak Hindi than English when I'm in India. Unless we bring back Sanskrit, which is deuced difficult and no one accept sannyasis speak it anyways :)
