When i said f23 is XDCAM on steriods it really is i was shocked by how well my XDCAM cut in with it it really was marginal and if i had that sort of money i would get 35mm. Digital is not as good as film or even easier to use but its CHEAP. RED is for the money the closest to film as for Canon i could make a whole film out of that baby and people have. All cams have limitations its about working around them.
I never bitch about film cameras image, or REDS just dont like f23 overpriced whatever D.I or lens is used! Chromatic abberation is not just lens but back element too..I know because i had it with all lenses and took it to pyser sgi Lens makers...they informed me of this... its a myth. No matter what lens is used on f23 it suffers this obvious problem. Check out everything shot with it?? I have rented this camera along with RED. f23 has more detail RED has more solid natural filmic image.
ARRI could be making prams now for all i know because ARRI equals expensive and I equal poor. Yes i like pro AV gear i have A pro Sony cam ( One that can be dropped and has a pro lens unlike EX3.) I have pro lighting, pro 5.2 screening room , edit suite etc. Dexter is a top t.v show in U.S shot on f23..Which rock have you been under?
If you read my comments back more carefully you will see i WOULD buy 35mm or ARRI D20 IF l could afford it (along with expensive film and processing). I didnt know new ARRI cams were out obviously if i was a lottery winner i would enquire if this model has been replaced as im not i dont care. Of course i want filmic look is there anything else? under 10k may as well be 60 i am poor! I had to take out huge bank loan for my 330! We cant even afford dental care in U.K!
One more thing have you seen the Chromatic abberation on the uber expensive Sony f23? Watch district 9 and then Dexter which one doesnt look blown out and cold and video like? Its like an XDCAM on steroids. You obviously are into badges and i dont go for the RED hype i just like the fact that it doesnt look horrible and contrasty like Public Enemies did.
Oh and its fucking future proof...if i had a spare fucking 100k id get a fucking 35mm film cam or at least a fucking ARRI D 20! But i dont because im a fucking indie filmmaker and not a fucking mason! or Francis Copolas daughter! ( thank god!) I dont care if RED are upstart Cali twats they make the best cams for the money period! Your just jealous so na na na na!
because i dont want to spend 40k on an f900..So i will be getting this or a Canon 5D as B camera. I already have invested 14k in pounds on an XDCAM HD 330 plus lens and accessories and its fucking heavy. I couldnt give a shit if its 3k res i want it for its beautiful filmic image because im an artist not a technical masturbator.
red camera uses a super 35mm film frame size sensor. It can already use motion picture lenses natively because of that so it has zero need for a 35mm adapter
The red scarlets sensor is only about 10mm across, thats about ten times smaller then 35mm. The FF35 Red camera is full 35mm but that costs at least $30,000
In an interview about the scarlet it was said that there will be multiple versions of the scarlet, cheapest having the 2/3 inch sensor. He said there would be a little more expensive scarlet with a larger sensor. Certainly not $30,000 however, as the Red One itself is only about $18,000. Maybe the guy is lying who knows but if it turns out to be true it would be much better to invest in the more expensive than a 35mm adapter.
yup if you go on the red website you can find the different scarlet versions. The cheapest has a fixed lens and a 2/3 sensor and the others have removable lenses and 35mm sensors. Unless they decide to scrap the idea
try 50,000 with accesories and 100,000 for district 9 look. not including post like Da vinci color correction and D.l Then even more for a 4k projector so it doesnt just look like a varicam or f900. This Scarlet would be worthwhile if they ever release it and stick to a price. For the moment that Canon 5 D looks tempting.
looks kinda fuckin stupid, but all innovative things look messed up at first..

Is anyone else thinking they should manufacture there own 35mm adaptor that would fit right onto the body's lens mount.

Yeah, it can use great lenses natively, but your depth of field will only be shallow if you put on very long lenses at wide apertures.
