@grays888 Totally agree, puts today's music to shame really. (Commenting on my mums behalf, she doesn't have a youtube account but does has a great taste in music) =)
this is real songwriting if you ask me. Meatloaf has been blessed to sing amazing songs and this is one of the best; his songs blend the music story in harmonic perfection to the classical music to his rock voice. It is the perfect juxtaposition which is what makes this guy an icon.
I use to sing this when I was in a band .... made me cry then and makes me cry now ... I love it ... this entire album is one of the top 3 ever made .... IMO
This is the only Meatloaf album I can say I enjoy. Oddly enough it's my favourite album (in it's entirety) of all time. Everything from the songs, the lyrics, the arrangements right down to the EPIC cover art. Listening to it instantly takes me back to a time when everything was better, this era was truly amazing and anyone who wasn't around for the 70's can't possibly understand. The amazing thing about this song is that it can be played to win someone's heart, or honour someone's life.
great song, great performer!!! For all the nay sayers out there, Yes Meatloaf is an aquired taste who may not appeal to everyone, and then you have your closet Meatloaf fans who are afraid to admit liking not only him but the whole persona of the band, but with all do respect give the man and his band there dues!!!!! they made millions of people happy and they were very talented!!!!!God bless folks and Merry Christmas!!To you and yours!!!

Beautiful, beautiful song. He sings this in such an emotional and modest way. And that beautiful high not at the end is the perfect finishing touch. Brilliant. Jim Steinman and Meatloaf are great together.
if only jim steinman en meat loaf would hoockup togeter to make more new songs they would take over again !! and people knew real rock n roll then music would really change !!!

hey J4K0B1 im 18 and i love old music cause unlike now musicians had passion and soul when they sang. The only thing u see now is a bunch of wasted talent like Billy Talent and Maroon 5. Not only a song about endings (respect to all posters). Just texted lyrics to a new friend: "Give me all of your dreams, and, Let me go along on your way" is pure beauty.
I've been on a Meat Loaf kick for the past few weeks now, literally, most of the music I've listened to were sung by him (admittedly I've only just gotten into the classic stuff from him, such as 'Not a Dry Eye' and this song.)
i took this "album" from my aunt when i was 7 or 8 wore out several record player needles and finally the album but i kinew the whole album by heart by the time that happened. been listing to Meat Loaf ever since.
@indiepoos one of my earliest memories, listning to this on casset in the car with my mum and dad back in the day, me singing along as a wee tote, probably about 7 or 8 and realising that music existed, i knew that there were songs, but i mean MUSIC, thats quite a profound thought to have for a kid but i remember it like it was yesterday i had on these snow boots with spikes on the bottom and i just booted a hole in the car door and blamed it on my brother. good times!
I had the vinyl of this and just bought the CD at Amazon. It was wonderful. It came out the year that my husband and I met. What sweet days they were...such sweet music.
i had a seizure and later found out i had a brain tumor, but when my seizure started i was listening to this song, meatloaf is amazing, i guess it was too much for my nerves! still love it, it brings me back to that day...in a good way
I reckon and i'm sure that you will all agree with me, there has never ever been a such good singer in the entire world. Plus his songs have a meaning and a story. He is what gives us hope and light in life.

My dad died a month ago and this song was played at his funeral, this is a beautiful song and i cry every time i here this being played. I miss you dad!
Someone needs to punch either Todd Rundgren or Roy Bittan in the nose for this. Todd used some of the E Streeters as the backing band on purpose, and it is very obvious here. Notice how Roy continually hits at "Thunder Road" through out, but never quite carries though with it. It is really noticeable at the end.
