  • I have almost everything I need to make this. Where do I get the snow shoes?

  • engineering genius..very well thought out to the last detail

  • wow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,luv it

  • I mean, it looks like a plastic in back side of the sandpaper?

  • Amazing job. I never though about it. What kind of sandpaper is this? Congratulations.

  • I would like to know which model knife that is, It looks something like my BRTK north star but much slimmer in the handle I like it a lot.

  • Patent and sell it you'll be rich af

  • Great Idea!

  • Very good idea. I'll be making one of these for my kit for sure.

  • great idea, good job

  • smart engineering..thank you for sharing

  • i posted this video on bush craft usa every one says thanks

  • @tightlylacedcorset That's great, glad to hear it. Thanks for letting me know.

  • That is brilliant. I work as a carpenter, among other things, and I cant believe I didn't think of it. I will be making my own tomorrow. Thanks.

  • AMAZING! im making one!

  • Wow! THANK YOU! What an awesome setup that I intend to shamelessly copy and use. Also you could in fact use that setup to sharpen other edges with a slight modification. Ditch the leather side, put the abrasive paper against the bare wood, and that little guy would sharpen up scandi and hollow grind knives just as well -- basically use the mousepad side for the convex, and the wood side for the others. Would be great for someone who routinely carries knives with different grinds. Thanks!

  • Talk about covering the bases! Good job!

  • Sell these on ebay. Register at Bladeforums, and sell there too. You can make some money on these.

  • good idea!

  • Not to be to redundant but would this work good for the bark river bravo 2?

  • Ingenuous little invention. If packaged and marketed properly, you could probably make some profit from selling shit like this to gadget-heads like myself. I can easily image something like this selling for 50-65.00 since many ppl are too lazy to bother making things themselves and would rather shell out the dough. Also, it seems that the most Bushcraft/survivalist types love the gadgetry. The more gadgets, the more they're willing to pay (i include myself in this equation)

  • You sir are a bloody genius..great idea

  • fucking enginious!

  • Very nice. I would take that owt whenever I go owt to the woods.

  • You need to patent that right now!! That is such a great system, I wish I had tought about it, very functional unlike all that other "all in one crap" systems out there

  • Thanks and best regards.

  • IF YOU DONT USE CONVEX edges then you cant ues this because the mouse pad will turn all your edges in yo a convex edge

  • That's true. Although if you don't have a convex edge you can still strop with the leather as it doesn't wear on the knife so much as it just cleans up the edge. But yes, using the sandpaper on anything but a convex edge would alter the grind.

  • @MaddyTheGoose that is a very neat system, I hope you don't mind that I may copy it blatantly! You could use this on a normal straight beveled knife if the mouse pad wasn't glued down. The sandpaper will hold the pad in place, so it is possible I suppose. If the block is perfectly flt then you could do scandi grinds, etc. Is the knife a BRKT Fox River?

  • Thanks for clarification.

    Three more questions please.

Why the mouse pad ?. Which side did you glue to the wood ?

    Why two elastic bands ?

    Thanks and best regards.

  • I carry a piece of quartz.. Rough garnet is good as well.

Just as good as diamond hone.

  • Great Idea I will go make one.

Sorry but I did not catch the explanation of what you replaced the leather with on one side. i.e what is the black surface ? ( My Scottish ears could not pick up what you were saying )

    Thanks again in anticipation.

  • He said a (computer) mouse pad with a very grippy surfacr.

  • Mouse pad.

  • I used a slim mousepad on the other side. This creates a natural curve when applying a little pressure to the knife against the fine sandpaper that's drapped over the mousepad surface. I should have noted this in the video but using the sandpaper is only for convex edges.

  • nice, i'm impressed

  • very smart done....

  • Fantastic Idea. I like it a lot.

  • great design.

  • This is a great little invention you have come up with. It just about covers all aspects of blade repair. What else are you coming up with?

  • Great idea, I have a BRKT knife which is a stropping knife due to its convex edge, Ive been preparing birch polypore that I found for a strop in field but what you have done is put several strops into one...very awesome thanks bud!!!

  • dude nice job you should make a video on how u made this 5/5

  • Great design and execution. Good job!

  • genius! i wouldn't bother with the compound reservoir but good on ya for including it. this thing would sell if commercially available. i would buy 2!

  • Very clever mate ! stealing this Idea, ;o)

keep up the good work .

  • Nice one! This opens new ideas to me

  • Billiant. What kind of sandpaper works best for shapening knives? And how does using sandpaper compare to using a stone?

  • The lowest grade sandpaper I use on my knives is 800 grit that you can get at any hardware store, I rarely need to go this low. Then you get up into the silicon carbide and chromium oxide sheets that I get at LeeValley which start at .5 microns to 15 microns, this stuff works great.

  • Wow. This is a really great idea. Very compact and simple. Seriously. Great job dude.

  • As far as the stone over the sandpaper goes, I like to keep a convex edge so for me it's sandpaper on a soft surface than the leather and compound. You could use the sandpaper the same way as a stone if you like (on a hard surface) but I'm not sure if it would have any benefit over a stone like that and to be honest I've never done any other edge besides convex on it so I'm not sure. One of the reasons I like the convex edge is because I find it's easier to keep a keen edge on it freehand.

  • Very nice job on this.

  • you can use inner tube from old bke tire for the rubberband very strong and lasts a long time

  • Great idea. I was wondering what I would use without having to buy more snowshoes ;)

  • when you showed me (in person) I had no idea you made that yourself. Well done and yes "brilliant"!!

  • first class very good 5 stars

  • thats ingenious! I say make several of those and sell them! I'd buy one!

  • Fantastic setup. Thanks for sharing.

  • OH MY GOD!!!!

That is even more brilliant than the one I saw at the Fallkniven forum.....

    That's crazy!!!! I want one :(

I just want you to know that because of you I'll be gallopping across the city trying to locate the tools and materials...

I already have most of them... Now I just need a drill bit, and a blow torch.

    May I just say.... Thanks
