  • How do u know if a tiger barb is a girl or boy

  • Those are males having a punch-up.

  • those are males fighting for dominance. notice the bright red noses and the deep red line fills in the whole top fin. females have dull noses and the red mark on the top fin does not go all the way to the back edge of the fin. females are smaller and plump too.

  • hey your barbs are so bright, how so ? what do you feed them?

  • @uome1k9 The cleaner and better the water, the brighter the fish. The light could also play into it, and the camera, as well.

  • great looking tigers.

  • i bred my green tiger barbs on accident

  • my tiger barbs do that too but im not sure if theyre mating or mock fighting :(

  • Will they be fine with an oscar a blood parrot a red pacu and a spotted gar

  • i got 2 tiger barbs today and they non stop go at it , same with my guppys lol

  • is that as big as they get??

  • They can grow larger but these are a "normal" size.

  • Source? How can you confirm this?

  • Citation this is is true?

  • Yes. It is. Mine do that all the time. They fight to make sure they're the top dog (or in this case top fish). At least the males do

  • omg my tiger barbs were doin this n i was gettin worried cuz i thought they were fighting lmao...now im relived cuz they are makin cute little babys..i hope the fry live n not become mummy n daddys dinner D:

  • sorry just read your original post...maybe you are right... my tiger barbs have grey scales between their stripes but yours are really clean and defined..is it just a maturity thing? mien are quite young..have had them like 3 or 4 months

  • FarahNick...i heard that if the males nose gets rly red it means that they are excited for some lovin lol

  • well i am pretty sure...cus mine do that all the time..almost every time i sit and look at the tank they do that..and the same goes for any tank with tiger barbs i have seen..and it is very common for tiger barbs to maintain a hierarchy system in the school which is constantly shifting so they are constantly fighting to maintain their dominance...but i guess it could be some form of mating dance.. is the green in their stripes a sign of mating?

  • they arnt mating they are just fighting for hierarchy

  • one of my tiger barbs is shaking really bad..help

  • my tiger barbs were also doing that, and i thought they were fighting too, but they are mating, my tiger barbs black stripes go fairly green when the light is on and then back to the black stripes when its dark, and there the whole body has also gone a metallic, which i also read is a sign on mating time and bright red noses. so im guessing there ready to mate, can you please help and did yours end up mating?

  • its happened with mine they do that now and again but the stripes have been dark greenish since i got them but i think this is just partly a crossbreed from a green tiger barb

  • They are fighting for hierarchy in their shoal.

  • oh for real couse mine tho. they get darker color and there striped get a dark green

  • mine do this too all the time. but im not sure if they just playing or fighting or wat lol. but they do the exact same thing!

  • If you notice, the black stripes turn greenish... I'm told that is when they are mating.

  • @ibjhb no thats normal those are both males they fight for dominance that means your group is established thats good greenish stripes actually is showing off for dominance to intimidate the foe
