Miami-Dade has not gone Republican since 1988 for a Senator or Presidential candidate. Mel Martinez in 2004, a Cuban-American and Republican, lost Miami-Dade County and lost Broward County by a 64-34 margin, but still managed to pick up the White vote in North Florida and win the state. But the proportion of White Conservative vote is decreasing heavily in Florida as Whites move out of Florida.
