The red umbrella is for a Chief Priest of a school.I don't know what the re-enactment was about with all the red umbrella. Dai in this case means 'The Great'. I follow Nichiren Daishoni or Sun Lotus, The Great Sage in English.
@TubaBuddha I was thinking that it had something to do with a graduation ceremony or something. That is true about dai meaning "The Great." I actually changed the name of this episode from The Great Buddha to the Big Buddha simply because I thought it was funnier. Hmm, I may have to check those out.
@3greviews I am kinda biased towards Jochi. It is a great school and it's not that big, so it's very easy to meet people. I really don't know much about Waseda though.
I like the PiP play by play bit! Amazing to think that big statue has been around since the 9th century. What was that creepy statue anyways? Something you'd normally see in your nightmares by the looks of it.
@Crush777 I think people rub it for good luck. Glad you appreciate the PiP. This was one of my first times messing around with that, and boy was it tedious.
God, it's been too long since I've visited this...

@Oty3d Yeah, we almost said forget it, but I'm glad I didn't. That building was really spectacular.

The last time I went there I was stopped by some young school children whom wanted to talk English. But it is a great place to visit.

@Theytoldmetodoit1 I love that about Kansai. So many people were much more open to talk to foreigners.

The architecture and landscaping is so stunning!

@PorscheGTIII It really was. One of the main reasons I wanted to go to Japan was to see all of the old architecture.

I really want to be an exchange student when I get to college too.
Perferably Jochi (sophia) or waseda :)

@jakesinjapan How many people do they accept? It's a year right...?
A part of my family actually lives in Japan for work, so they have rooms in an apartment in Shinjyuku...so waseda would be really close!
