  • great stuff

  • True 80"s stay alive!!!

  • damn stuart.. this has probably been my 10th post telling you how much you make me feel happy inside when i listen to this song. god bless you stuart!

  • Saw BC several times in the late 80s/early 90s in Germany. Fantastic! Met Stuart after the shows. ... Stay alive...somewhere....

  • Saw Big Country in the 80s at leicester Uni., brilliant.

No relation to Becky Fox, my username refers to my football team.

  • 1:05

  • leather lives 1:04

  • i never took the smile away from anybody's face

  • Sorry ,not Scotland its Swanage in Dorset.

  • Is that Ireland I wish I can go there one day.

  • Scotland!

  • To think I hated these guys back in the 80s. I was young and stupid then. I'm just glad I rediscovered them. I wanted to buy some of their albums, but I can't find them in any store. Most stores around my area carry mostly rap and dance crap.

  • I dunno if dreams stayed with Stuart at the end of his life, don't think so though...shame he died so early, Big Country were a great band and I loved them-and still do-very much. Besides, Stu was a very talented, beautiful man.

  • love the second brtish invasion of the 80's

  • It's pretty sad about Stuart Adamson. Reminds me of Michael Hutchence in terms of tragedy.

  • I must be getting old. The people that I grew up watching are going, going, gone. Stu's gone, Peter is in the House of Commons as a Member of Paraliment.

  • i climb mountains to this song

  • Great song, it evokes alot of emotion.

  • RIP...u are missed to this day.

  • this song with bagpipes would be great

  • Actually the song was engineered so that the guitars would sound like bagpipes. A lot of Scot and Irish punk bands are doing that today.. but Big Country started it. =)

  • This whole album was amazing. This song never gets old, I highly recommend screaming it from the top of your lungs in the car with the sunroof open. Does wonders for stress.

  • thanks for the tip. i tried it and it works!

  • fantástico tema,me remonta a mis mejores noches de marcha...chapeau.

  • IMO - this song really stands the test of time - it still sounds amazing after all these long years. i love everything about this song.

and to Tim - i hope you know that whenever i listen to this song - i still think of you. i fondly remember this was one of your very favorite songs from the 80's. i miss you Tim. RIP my sweet and dear friend.

  • brilliant music.

  • We are in Kent listening to a band who were at the time of the 80s was the best,

  • i never took the smile away from anybodys face....

  • One of the best 80s songs! LOVE IT!!!

  • SIGH....Back in the day, when all seemed possible & all seemed endless, we thought that Big Country, Tears 4 Fears, Simple Minds, The Call, The Alarm, & maybe even this little Irish band named U2 were all gonna take over the world & sing from the mountaintops & rule the universe 4ever & ever & ever...Well, I guess U2 has chosen 2 take on that mantle & rise 2 the challenge.

  • The Alarm was great! So much better than U2.

  • yeah, but they're shit (u2)

  • Bryant Reeves!

  • lol!!!

  • Aldin and Kora love this song.. so fuck yourself ya?

  • STAY ALIIIIIVE!!...........Jaaaaahhh dig???

  • Great band, epic song, and one of the dumbest videos ever. ("How do you want to introduce the band to the world, Stu? I've got it -- three wheelers!")

  • The video was perfect for the time when MTV came out. The videos were fun and the music was great.

  • one of the best songs of the 80s.Still powerful and optimistic

  • much preferred line, " dreams stay with you, like a good lover should "

  • i have vague memories of seeing these playing in plymouth on the plymouth hoe as a child and im 18 now think i was around 3-5 years something like that

  • im 29 and love them, saw them glasgow green 89 big day out, they were great, they still blow me away

  • how gd wer this bad ?

  • I was an new waver in the 80 ties its now 20 year ago I, and It is still goooood

  • U2 & Big Country created the great celtic rock sounds...

U2 went the Brian Eno way....

But Big Country went the...same way the Big Country way. (Dreams with u)

Big Country & Stuart stay true to their celtic rock.

I miss the U2 before Brian Eno era.

I miss Big Country Music too....

    Love the guitars

    Thanks for the music guys...

  • Reminds me of my Irish grandfather .. I know they are Scotish but the celtic sounding bagpipes are amazing. I just close my eyes and I imagine going to Ireland and visiting the village my Grandfather's mother came from and meeting distant relatives. One day I will make that trip for my grandfather!

  • My grandfather was all set to make that trip to northern Ireland but died right before he was set to leave. It is one of my life's passions to make that trip for him. And this song just gives me the inspiration to do it. Thanks Big Country

  • One hit wonders is probably wrong, more like a a couple of one hit wonders and they had a unique sound and deserve due credit

  • I've never seen myself look ike this without a reason.

  • And everything posted in the last few comments is bollocks! Big Country were on the same par as U2!! And in my book far fucking better!!

One of the best if not the best concerts I've ever been to in the Berrowlands Glasgow :)

  • awesome guitar!

  • Best band EVER.

  • The guys looks a lot like Mort Harkenson from A-HA

  • he reminds me of the actor andrew divoff aka wishmaster and mikhail balkunnen? off lost

  • i think someone mentioned once that Stu looked like a cross between Josh Hartnett and Patrick Swayze?

  • @robertaplantledzep

wow i can see that now..hmmm

  • I think he looks like the lead singer from Ah-ha! Agree?

  • These dudes, aren't one hit wonders. This was their bigger hit here in the US, but I mean these guys are well, were a pretty big deal back in the day.

  • as good as this song is, the lyrics are even better.

  • I forgot to mention, I love Big Country for their unique, infectious guitar melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and sick rhythm section.

  • Remember people, America is NOT the world. These guys were/are gods in Europe. It's a shame the USA mainly remembers them for this song.

  • Oh so true!!

  • I am 39 years old American now...ha-ha and have worked as a photographer, journo, marketing man since 1993. My first album bought was in 1976 as a 6 year old, Elton John's "Here And There" and I was all over BIG COUNTRY when they arrived in the States in the early 80's. I just wish Stu was still with us.

No shame in being a Yank when well-educated.

    ,

  • One hit wonders? Hell, just scroll the bar on the right side and you'll find several great hits from this band.

    R.I.P. Stuart.

  • Excellent song.

  • I want my MTV.

  • they were great live! Apollo in 1980s!

happy memories of my teens and youth

  • For my ma:)

  • another example of the black guy on bass in 80's bands.

  • I remember when this song/group came out. All they said was this group was supposed to be the biggest thing since the Bay City Rollers!!!...lol...oh well, now they are one of the biggest one hit wonders of all time!!...No shame at all in that!

  • they were off the chain. I liked the rolers, too, but they couldn't carry these guys guitars. they were off the hook.

how did they make that bagpipe sound?

  • One hit wonders i dont think so mate.

  • lol they are on the top 100 hundred one hit wonders list dude lol, that's how i re-discovered this song

  • Well I generally enjoy those lists but... what the hell, they are usually ludicrous...

Big Country not only scored several hits in the 80s but also released beautiful albums like the Crossing and Steeltown...

Some even consider A-ha, INXS and New Order one-hit wonders - which is 100% absurd.

  • thank you....isnt it wonderful??

  • ive seen them in concert loads, what an atmosphere, he is missed in scotland

  • Bryant Reeves!

  • de lo mejor en los 80's... lastima que en méxico no sonaron tanto... recuerdo por ahi a un zonzo decir que esta rola la canta THE CURE

  • R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

  • AHH you called him patrick swayze......HA HA HA YOU KILL ME...Patrick Swayze......

  • come on mates will ride these kiddie toys then will get lost

from there will be come frogmen that never dive, and you know that crazy chick, shes tryin to follow us .

should we let her on our secrect island? yea okay

throw her the rope, she can be in our club. i kind of dig her rope head>

  • I hate everyone, but love this song!

  • Who ever said Americans are idiots, just prooves one thing, YOUR mother should have ate you at child birth.... Fuck off cunt..

  • As an American I will vouch for the fact that we have many idiots.

  • I dont know why but I always relate to the likes of Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and the likes. This song always had special meaning it is just now through research that I discoverd the lead singer sadly followed Kurts path.

  • really!

    he killed himself

    wow

i thought he like quit and found religion or something

  • Don't know why, but I found myself remembering BC today. I saw them at a local college when "In a Big Country" came out, and it was such a treat to hear them live. They were so tight - what a great show!

  • He committed suicide back in '91. Damn alcohol got the best of him. Such a shame, he was such a great singer/songwriter.

  • 2001

  • Yeah, i knew that! Somtimes my fingers are quicker than my brain!

  • That is really sad. Many thanks to them for this great music.

  • A damn shame these guys weren't bigger artists than they were. Sad about the lead singer too.

  • Agree with your comments. What happened to the lead singer?

  • He committed suicide.

  • He's Dead. (Reply to alumfpc1)

  • What happened to the lead singer????

  • He hung himself in a hotel room in 2001.

  • fuck man.. you make everyone at work go crazy when this plays.. you did it... you make people happy.. i love that about you... god bless you stuart.

  • i've heard this song only god konws how many time but when it sounds off my cell phone still feel a thrill of joy everytime

  • I am an eighties baby I love everything made then and when i hear it makes me happy. Check out Human League

  • Wish all music sounded as good as this song. Love me some 80's alternative.

  • great band god bless

  • A super great band, God bless Stuart's family.

  • love this song

  • god, stuart we all love you badly.. shits hard..and we all know it.. but we"ll actually never feel what you felt.. AUGUST.23/09.. lets let Mr.Adamson how we feel about him.. you made me friends... you made me souls.. but trust me mate.. i aint english and i got no accent but bro you got my souls!

  • It is NEVER worth it to kill yourself over a person, whom you love. Unless you vibrantly and unequivocally live for THEM, then it is truly worth it...only in your dreams..

  • If you like Big Country...or if you like truly fantastic live concerts...search Amazon for the Big Country - King Biscuit Flower Hour Concert.

In front of their hometown crowd on New Year's Eve..it's an amazing moment in time from an amazing '80's band. The sound...the energy of the crowd...the unique New Year's Eve tracks...awesome!

  • They got their arses kicked by a girl, lol. Love this song and video though.

  • tammy , dannmacg, the 80s have always ben a great part of every ones lives and still is 80s r 4erver but iment the style the feel the people have changed and i miss that bad ,check out heart now that brings ya back u all will love it

  • is he dead

  • rod--hung himself in 2001 after battling depression and alcoholism in hawaii.

  • I don't mean any disrespect, but how is can anyone be an alcoholic and depressed in Hawaii? A lot of drug addicts go there to detox and get help because it's so freeing and beautiful. It's a damn shame, because if I want to see this song live now, I have to hear sub-par covers.

  • neil-Depression and etoh abuse cover no states or boundaries-cover bands are the norm for rock groups who lose lead singers.

  • Stuart Adamson 1958-2001 R.I.P.

  • absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Big Country came to town and I recorded it.....on cassette. I was too young to go see them......I listened to the tape every day for YEARS. I love them. RIP

  • They were chasin that Irish lass 'cause she was so ugly! Damn! Run run away boys!

  • You do realize there Scottish not Irish right? why do all Americans assume anybody with a celtic accent is Irish?

  • I knew they were Scotts, just the chick is Irish! And hehe assuming i am Amurican and just like someone assuming the band were Irish... I'm not Amurican I am Canuckian!

  • Your something mate!

  • I knew from the first time I've seen this video some 25 years back that they where from Scotland. One of the best songs of the 80's.

  • I call your lot "Canuckistani". :P

  • Because they sound the same.

    :/

    Pretty much.

Just like they assume everyone from England sounds posh.

  • No one from England sounds posh.

  • All the actors do.

  • All Americans? Where are you from deekomo? Do all people generalize in the country of your origin?

  • Eh, force them all to eat haggis, mate!

  • I hadn't realized the singer was Corey Feldman's cross-eyed twin.

  • For the people who think the 80's is gone w the wind! I was amazed with the number of young people who love it more than todays music. i Even met a yng. woman from california. Some people realize w out the Old there is no New.

  • w00t go michel jackson<---- hes much better..... and i agree with bruticuse =)

  • skids cant touch this the 80s was Rs ,and it was a time and an erra thats gone with the wind

  • My wind is still blowing, and I bet the ones who spawned you are still blowing wind from the 80's too!

    Take that

  • The most spectacular video of the 1980s and the most electrifying song!

Too bad it wasn't the FULL 11 minutes

    34 seconds as originally recorded.

Big Country invented a whole new genre: Adventure Rock.

Were these guys members of the British Special Boat Service or Royal Marine Commandos?

    Awesome!!!!

  • Well what the fuck...look up THE SKIDS

  • I miss the 80s can we bring it back

  • I LOVE 80's ROCK ......

    THEY R SO ELECTRIFYIN !!!

  • one of the best song of the 8O'S....I MISS THE 80'S

  • im 15 and i like the 80s music its awsome

  • i remember going to joshua tree everytime i hear this song, great memories

  • i used to wank to this song in my flat when i was a teen

  • lmao

  • tnx for the vid

  • Yeah I was probably 10 when this came out but the early/mid 80's are my bomb. Some classic sax, some killer drums, some synthesizer, they really had a bunch of sound going on. Classic but new.

  • There's no sax on this song.

  • This song is so precious.........

    Historic period.

  • This song and video bring back great memories.

  • I agree, and what great actors as well....

  • may Stuart Adamson's (singer and guitarist from the Skids) rest in piece. Awesome bands both of them. Its a shame he succumbed to depression and he is no longer with us. He will always be missed

  • moe. and bela fleck do awesome covers of this song. But the original is still the shit you know

  • r.i.p. stuart.

  • this song rocks it makes me want to visit scotland. and the guitars sound just like bagpipes

  • Not all music from the 80's was lets say "New Wave"... I consider Big Country rock as I do U2 though perhaps not in the same league.

  • This music is great I kind of wish I was around during the 80's I first this song on the VH1 special but I still love the music. PS I am 14 think of me as you want but it doesn't really matter to me.

  • yeah this song is good , but there was just as much garbage in the 80s as now , just gotta find the good stuff , its like panning for gold man

  • Ya got good taste kid.

  • i'm a 20 year old that can't enough of 80s music!!!! it's like an addiction!!!!!!

  • The 80's rock and so do you.

  • thanks a lot. i don't why so many people my age take 80s music for granted when they don't realize a lot of current songs they listen to are either remakes, or a sampled 80s classic

  • this song the best u cant beat this 1!!

  • I'm only 24 and I love this rock n roll from the 80's. They fuckin' rocked. Thank You.

  • if you want to hear an amazing cover of this song go to this video. Its starts at about 4:49 through till the end, its amazing, i just found it.

Search "18 hours with Ha Ha Tonka Part 2"

    IT SO AWSOME

  • yeah, their version was tight, too bad you can't find that copy anywhere.

  • im 12 and this is one of my fav songs!! =] and i like other 80 songs too!! i heard this song yesterday on my moms XM radio and i have listened to this song about 10 times since last night!!

  • I am 50 and this also one of my favorite songs.I heard the first time around. You obviously have good taste.

  • a guy from work and myself joke about this song bc it plays at my work...he tells me when they lower his casket into the ground, he wants this song to play. Yeah I like this song but he LOVES this song.

  • I've never seen you look like this without a reason,

Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you.

I never took the smile away from anybody's face,

And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child !

    Love it.

  • i'm fourteen & i freaking love like these kinda songs<3

  • my friends are hooked on it because i play it in my car is what i meant to say.. awesome roadtrip song by the way..

  • jakeryan37... i have to agree with you... i heard this song last year for the first time and now their all hooked on it badly.. i love big country... rest in peace stewie
