damn stuart.. this has probably been my 10th post telling you how much you make me feel happy inside when i listen to this song. god bless you stuart!
To think I hated these guys back in the 80s. I was young and stupid then. I'm just glad I rediscovered them. I wanted to buy some of their albums, but I can't find them in any store. Most stores around my area carry mostly rap and dance crap.
I dunno if dreams stayed with Stuart at the end of his life, don't think so though...shame he died so early, Big Country were a great band and I loved them-and still do-very much. Besides, Stu was a very talented, beautiful man.
I must be getting old. The people that I grew up watching are going, going, gone. Stu's gone, Peter is in the House of Commons as a Member of Paraliment.
Actually the song was engineered so that the guitars would sound like bagpipes. A lot of Scot and Irish punk bands are doing that today.. but Big Country started it. =)
This whole album was amazing. This song never gets old, I highly recommend screaming it from the top of your lungs in the car with the sunroof open. Does wonders for stress.
IMO - this song really stands the test of time - it still sounds amazing after all these long years. i love everything about this song.
and to Tim - i hope you know that whenever i listen to this song - i still think of you. i fondly remember this was one of your very favorite songs from the 80's. i miss you Tim. RIP my sweet and dear friend.
SIGH....Back in the day, when all seemed possible & all seemed endless, we thought that Big Country, Tears 4 Fears, Simple Minds, The Call, The Alarm, & maybe even this little Irish band named U2 were all gonna take over the world & sing from the mountaintops & rule the universe 4ever & ever & ever...Well, I guess U2 has chosen 2 take on that mantle & rise 2 the challenge.
Great band, epic song, and one of the dumbest videos ever. ("How do you want to introduce the band to the world, Stu? I've got it -- three wheelers!")
i have vague memories of seeing these playing in plymouth on the plymouth hoe as a child and im 18 now think i was around 3-5 years something like that
Reminds me of my Irish grandfather .. I know they are Scotish but the celtic sounding bagpipes are amazing. I just close my eyes and I imagine going to Ireland and visiting the village my Grandfather's mother came from and meeting distant relatives. One day I will make that trip for my grandfather!
My grandfather was all set to make that trip to northern Ireland but died right before he was set to leave. It is one of my life's passions to make that trip for him. And this song just gives me the inspiration to do it. Thanks Big Country
These dudes, aren't one hit wonders. This was their bigger hit here in the US, but I mean these guys are well, were a pretty big deal back in the day.
I am 39 years old American now...ha-ha and have worked as a photographer, journo, marketing man since 1993. My first album bought was in 1976 as a 6 year old, Elton John's "Here And There" and I was all over BIG COUNTRY when they arrived in the States in the early 80's. I just wish Stu was still with us.
I remember when this song/group came out. All they said was this group was supposed to be the biggest thing since the Bay City Rollers!!!...lol...oh well, now they are one of the biggest one hit wonders of all time!!...No shame at all in that!
I dont know why but I always relate to the likes of Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) and the likes. This song always had special meaning it is just now through research that I discoverd the lead singer sadly followed Kurts path.
Don't know why, but I found myself remembering BC today. I saw them at a local college when "In a Big Country" came out, and it was such a treat to hear them live. They were so tight - what a great show!
god, stuart we all love you badly.. shits hard..and we all know it.. but we"ll actually never feel what you felt.. AUGUST.23/09.. lets let Mr.Adamson how we feel about him.. you made me friends... you made me souls.. but trust me mate.. i aint english and i got no accent but bro you got my souls!

I don't mean any disrespect, but how is can anyone be an alcoholic and depressed in Hawaii? A lot of drug addicts go there to detox and get help because it's so freeing and beautiful. It's a damn shame, because if I want to see this song live now, I have to hear sub-par covers.

a guy from work and myself joke about this song bc it plays at my work...he tells me when they lower his casket into the ground, he wants this song to play. Yeah I like this song but he LOVES this song.

U2 went the Brian Eno way....
But Big Country went the...same way the Big Country way. (Dreams with u)
Big Country & Stuart stay true to their celtic rock.
I miss the U2 before Brian Eno era.
I miss Big Country Music too....

a guy from work and myself joke about this song bc it plays at my work...he tells me when they lower his casket into the ground, he wants this song to play. Yeah I like this song but he LOVES this song.

I've never seen you look like this without a reason,
Another promise fallen through, another season passes by you.
I never took the smile away from anybody's face,
And that's a desperate way to look for someone who is still a child !
Love it.
