As a general manager at a mid-sized contract screen printing shop, speaking for many large company clients and peers across the country, the general consensus is; the new Pantone Plus color books are complete garbage. This version is fine as a specialty book for designers who have time to waste, but they need to offer the normal format to everyone else who uses them every 5 minutes of the working day. I mean, an Index for a numbering system? Imagine if the library had an index for the index.
@94thts CMYK can't replicate all colours, like very bright and metallic ones, and a huge part of RGB's ones. Pantones are used in printing, you can't really use RGB instead (for now at least, there is a company developing adding red, green or blue inks to a CMYK print to make it more punchy). Plus, the Pantone system is perfect for colours that needs stability, like on logos.
?? ¿? what can we reply to a client who says: "I will send you my pantone colours to you print my cards: violet 500344, dark violet 3E0246 and black 000000" -- I said that aren't pantone colours but he said: "the Black is six 0 ". ????

I wish Pantone would come up with some definitive greens. The blues are great! the greens however seem lacking in comparison.

Why not just use a system like RGB or HSV, or even CMYK?
