im 14 i have protruding ears and would like this surgery, but im not sure the best way to go about telling my parents. i dont know how much it would cost and how to follow it up. but i am mostly worried about how they would react, ive never really spoken to anyone about it and have only started looking into it today. has anyone got any suggestions about any of the above please reply soon as you can.
@squirel483 hey i am not sure if its the same in england, but in canada ear surgery is free until the age of 16 (they say its due to psychological damages in can cause) dont wait too long because i am 25 and finally am getting mine done but its going to cost me $4390
This might sound kind of gay but I think it was a good idea for you to get that surgery because you're quite handsome and your ears (as you had them before) took attention away from your face.
I had otoplasty done about 3 1/2 weeks ago. It's not really all that painful.Sleeping can be uncomfortable and painful.I hate taking pain medication for several reasons so I only took 1 pill.
@tessab0o Just $ave $ave $ave. Skip buying things you don't really need and maybe go without luxury items for a while. Before you know it you'll have the money and be able to pay for the surgery.
one more question i know prices vary from the experience of the doctor, or where you get them done but, i was just wondering how much did it cost you? if you dont mind me asking. (:
hate seeing people get otoplasty when they didnt need it. ive been ridiculed all my life cuz of mine didnt affect me when i was younger but ive now lost all confidence and im real depressed. read every bit of advice and feel no better. unemployed cant afford surgery and slowly losing the will to live. can i get free surgery in uk if its making me feel like this? thanks
@TheMnb88 Don't get down on yourself.Set a goal to get a job and save the money for the surgery. It may take a while but just keep reaching for the goal. You'll make it.
hey would i was thinking of gettin this procedure how long is the recovery and how long do u have to wear bandages and the head peice and how happy do u feel with ur results which are good and do people notice a change
Het i was the one last year who asked about tips on sleeping and you mentioned the neck pillow well i Just got it done friday. I'm about to head over to get the wrapping off and start wearing the head band. Wish me luck. I'm kind of nervous to see what it looks like. My doc took pics of it after the procedure and showed my mom she told me they look goof so hopefully they do. I don't want to have my hopes up to high just in case.
Please answer this! Can u touch your ears and sleep on them way after surgery without causing damage? And do the stitches or pins that pin the ears back ever like fall out or get loose?
Hi i was just wondering how much did it cost you and was it possible for you to pay the payment down monthly? I think i could prob make a downpayment for 1g or 2 if i work my ass off. Im really interested in it and the results you got were nice btw!.
hey just a question did you vomit after the operation ????? you might think im weird but im interested in having otoplasty as im a child i really don't like being sick but some people you are sick and some say you just feel sick. thanks.
well first off incase this gives the wrong impression i am NOT gay, you were good looking before you hade it done and yours weren't that bad, after you look better though. i cant wait to have mine done my family is working on getting it set up for me
will post video of the mess my surgeon left me in shortly in the uk - cost me £2500 and i have to pay nearly the same again to have it fixed by other surgeon, and that may leave them cominng back out and then require redo again! gp trying to get sorted on nhs but wait it long and very very painful as he has left stitches protruding from my skin = purchased under bmi all inclusive package that they are not honouring
when you have the sutgery on one ear only say in the morning would you be able to go to work in the afternoon?????????? plzz let me know i have mine this monday but on the same day i have a practical at university whch i don't want to miss. plzzzz i need you guys to reply me if youve had the op. this will be much appreciated. :)
hey maybe a odd question. So ive noticed that everyone asks so many questions but i think the really important question is HOW did you manage to sleep comfortably after the surgery any tips?
Great question! Sleeping SUCKS for the first week, a little trick i got was buying a 5 dollar molded pillow, the one where its kind of shaped like your head, so that it keeps your head straight up and you arent rolling around.. basicly you want to mix that and then with your headband on, after about 2 weeks, you want to try to see which side is LEAST painful to lay on...mixed with the painkillers can be easier than it sounds....hope that helps
Ive have just had mine done today for the second time as the first op went wrong. Hopefully all has gone well this time but i have no pain or bleeding which is a bonus compared to last time. Just a warning to people who are thinking of having the op things dont always go to plan, but the advantages easily overcome the disavantages.
hi mate - I am from Dublin & im considering getting it done - my ears are rather larger & more prominent than yours were:) YOU LOOK GREAT btw - congrats - i can see your confidence:) can you tell me did you get them reduced too or just pinned back - also how much did it cost you? i was told there is finance options available which is great:) any info appreciated:)
you can put pillows on each side of your body to stop you rolling... it halped me alot, i had it done 3 weeks ago and im able to sleep on my ears now but you have to keep the bands on for 6 weeks =]
Check out the updates to the right, "Re:Otoplasty (Ear Surgery/Pinning)......you'll see what they look like now.....thanks a bunch everybody...Good Luck
If anyone is looking for a doctor who is considered the king of otoplasty, his name is Burton Brent of Woodside, California. People travel from all over the world for this physician. People don't realize the mental suffering people needing otoplasty go through... and they never will. Results vary, depending on your individual anomaly. Best results are achieved by those with normal-sized and well shaped, but protruding ears. Other problems don't result in as normal a look as you may like.
hell yeah! its really life changing, i wish ya the best....and it really has a fast healing time...i'm telling you its the best saving that i have ever done raising the money...its worth it 100 percent..good luck
Im 19 atm and on my gap year and have been saving money 4 the operation since Oct last year but I haven't told anyone about my saving yet. No one even knows that I have a problem and im very self-conscious about my ears, not even my parents know Im embarrassed about them. I need to get the operation done before uni starts in sep but i cant bring myself to tell anyone not even parents. i need to how can i mention it to them and then ask them for some extra cash to help pay for it?
hey man im 20 frm nz and have just had the procedure done go to your local gp and they will refer you to the specialist they think best....as for the money just go to the bank and getta loan it costing me 16$ a week over 2yrs totally worth it i reckon
Looks good man... Is it true youre suppose to stay out of the sun for one year? How much did this operation cost you? Im saving up for it right now then gonna find a doctor. Hopefully itll be taken care of this year.
dude your ears were fine before they do look great now though im going for a consultation i only need the one done lol. were you put to sleep to have it done and could you go home the same day?
i did. i had an otoplasty and make sure you have a GREAT surgeon WITH before and after pictures that you like. i got in the office at about 7 am and was outta there by 10:30 in the morning...
TO EVERYONE BEFORE POSTING......THE LEFT SIDE (Bottom Left) IS PORTRUDING ONLY BECAUSE THIS WAS ABOUT 2 WEEKS AFTER THE SURGERY....SO SWELLING WAS CAUSING THE EAR TO PORTRUDE....NOW THEY LOOK GROOVY AND I WILL POST A MORE RECENT VIDEO IN THE NEAR FUTURE....THANKS A BUNCH FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND KEEP THE QUESTIONS COMING...
Hi im 15 and my parents doesnt know but i want to tell them soon that i want to go to doctor so they can check out my ears cause i need to make an otoplasty too. My both ears arent prodtruding its just mostly the left one but the right one needs little correction too..
I really want to know from u guys who have taken this surgery how does it fill like?
hey dude, looks like the surgery went well. i just got my ears pinned yesterday morning, and they hurt like hell. I skipped out on school today, as i DO have the gauze and bandage around my head which makes it looks as though i'm a diaper head. but it's ALLLLLLL GOOD, the results'll hopefully be worth it. i'm curious as hell to take off the bandages and look, but right now i'm pretty sure my ears are red from all the dry blood and bruised up as it's only the day after. looks good though man!
check my comment above, and i agree it sucks having to wear beanies and such ALL the time, i used to tuck my ears into my hat anywhere i went....save the money, its really worth it!!
Hey to my last two comments...i too wanted to "trim" them, but when i asked the doctor , he said that was very rare, and i imagine, a bit expensive, what he did was reshape the cartilage in my ears and then remove a football shaped spot behind my hear to sew them back, but as for actual trimming ...i don't really know what to tell ya..
there's no way i can afford it though. i'm just sick of being ridiculed and called dumbo. i'm so glad to see someone who had a fantastic transformation. i know how hard it is. it's definitely hard being a girl and having this problem. I have LONG thin hair so it's hard to cover it up.
Thanks alot! I hated being called dumbo more than anything, or having to constantly be thinking about it every minute...but it will be so sweet when you get it done...seriously save up for it , it will change your life in a way you wont even be able to imagine...save half of every paycheck..it'll be so worth it..i was really skeptical at first thinking my ears wouldn't be very realisticlyc hanged, especially right after ,but here i am, riding with the windows down..the wind is no longer my enemy
im 18 with no money in college... im gonna work my ass off for 18 months to raise the 3000 i need.. im going to get the stitch treatment..which means no bandages. Im going to have it done in germany..can't wait... oh you look alot better afterwards (no homo) lol.. i can almost feel that sigh of relief... when you do the huuuuuuuaaaa lol
Haha thanks brother, no i'm telling you , its life changing! ou can wear hats, short hair, its such an incredible feeling, haha prepare to become an zoolander for the first week as you WILL be looking in the mirror every 2 minutes once you get the headband off ( i'm assuming you'll wear a headband , as to have no bandages....I didn't have to wear bandages either, just gauze behind the ears) But yeah man its really awesome...i saved up for it by myself and it was worth more than every penny....
Haha dream big man...or i guess i should say dream little, i feel ya completly man, i used to have to hide my ears with my hair like i was in the witness protection man, XL hats to tuck them in, bandanna's , you name it ....Its such an awesome feeling bro, but make sure ya wear your head band, even though your thinking like i did "Oh no, i'll be wearing it constantly" about 3 weeks in your gonna want to stop wearing it and just show off, make sure your atleast wearin it at night, like a retainer
looking dude(not gay by the way) but I think you didnt really need it. now you could wear hats without being selfconcious about your ears. Thats what Im going to do this year, the otoplasty. Im 38 now and been feeling selfconcious about my 747 wings I have on the side of my head LOL believe me my our BIG. cant wait to go to a Cubs game with my baseball cap on.
Oh man....i know it sounds crazy to anyone who hasnt been through it like us, but putting on a regular hat (i've always gotten the xtra large ones so i could tuck my ears in hah) is the coolest feeling man...You cant even believe how much it affects your life....I wish ya the best man, your gonna love it...its life changing for real, and i'm only 20, best of luck!!
I`m a little embarrased to go through the surgery because then everyone will know that i was self conscious about my 747 airplane wings LOL. Im going to have to quit my job after and start fresh because I`ll never hear the end of it at work with the idiots there
Haha well did you have your hair grown over them, thats what i did, so once i got it done, nobody but my CLOSEST friends knew...everyone else just noticed the haircut (in the video was right after i got the haircut, so nobody but my girlfriend ever saw me like that)...but hell man., if your gonna do it, get another job if ya want, it'd be completely worth it...if you hide them pretty well like i did...aka tuckin your ears into your hat, ect....than nobody will notice but you ..Happy new ears bro
Well my hair is the type that grows like a afro when its long, so I have no choice but to haven`t short or else I`ll look like a wigga, LOL. another thing my situation is more than my ears, my fingers from left hand are deformed from birth and there`s nothing any doctor could do for that but I`m ok with that because 99.9% of the time people are looking at your face and not your hands, right? also i hate the way i look in pictures, I hate taking my picture.
Hey I`m planning on getting the Otoplasty done through a training clinic at a hospital in chicago where I live. They charge at a discount because I`d be in front of medical students as part of their training. I have my first appointment March 24th then I might have 2nd appojntment, then, depending on how much it will cost, comes the surgery.
Atlanta, Georgia......Like i told someone else on here, i can't really say the price only because i have the doctors name listed, but i can tell you it was under 3000......Best of luck to you man, Do whatever it takes man, its really worth it... ...your going to digg the results
yep got it working! Did as you said hit the refresh button... yeah man good results. It is an awesome feeling for sure... Big old ears are no fun for hair cuts, hats, getting your hair wet while swimming... now all that has vanished.
Hah i agree man , swimmings the worst, i used to have my hair cut with " blinds" as i'd call em, i would have it a little long, with the hair cut in a straight line over my ears, so no one EVER saw them....i'd be paranoid working as a waiter or swimming like ya said was the worst...i'm so pumped to go and buy my "first" real hat...peace brother
Thanks alot!!....This is about 2 weeks into the process, so theres a minimal amount of swelling left, but I still can't believe how much of a radical difference this has made in my life.....I can't wait to be able to walk around without a headband on haha
AND YOUR EARS DID NOT EVEN STICK OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

there's no way i can afford it though. i'm just sick of being ridiculed and called dumbo. i'm so glad to see someone who had a fantastic transformation. i know how hard it is. it's definitely hard being a girl and having this problem. I have LONG thin hair so it's hard to cover it up.
Congratulations :D
peace.

I dont have to wear anything.. haha im a zoolander already i always look in the mirror an hold my ears back and dream lol
how did you deal with being around people before hand?
any tips? im always self conscious.. turning sideways ect

How much was your surgery? Where do you live?

Atlanta, Georgia......Like i told someone else on here, i can't really say the price only because i have the doctors name listed, but i can tell you it was under 3000......Best of luck to you man, Do whatever it takes man, its really worth it... ...your going to digg the results

Your video is freezing!
dermot1175 2 years ago
Try it again...did it work? It's been working for everyone else....try the refresh button : )
PeaceFrogYaDigg 2 years ago
Na dude! At 10 secs it freezes!
dermot1175 2 years ago
yep got it working! Did as you said hit the refresh button... yeah man good results. It is an awesome feeling for sure... Big old ears are no fun for hair cuts, hats, getting your hair wet while swimming... now all that has vanished.
dermot1175 2 years ago
