  • I don't think the Challenger was really pushing it.

  • Comment removed

  • I'll take five of those Challengers and five of those Fairlane's over ten of those new Camaro's anyday!!!! But for now, I'm driving one '64 289 Fairlane and having fun!!!

  • Dodge is just a bunch of good ideas poorly executed.

  • A tuned car vs. a CarToon. Gimme the Fairlane any day.

  • @headcase01 Fords just suck... Big time-

  • @PERIZ99 Let's see...a 45 year old 4.7 liter Ford kicks a 4 year old 6.1 liter Hemi Dodge's ass almost to the finish line. Yeah, ok. Fords suck. Right. I'll still take the Fairlane, at least I won't see the same thing on the road all over the place.

  • fairlane is a pos

  • 289 my ass...

  • @TurbulentV8 Oh yeah.... look online for drag strip records set by these tiny terrors, you'll find street driven cars clicking easy 11's and deep 10's for serious motored cars. (also, you can tell by the sound it's a 3 inch stroke *std 289, 4" bore X 3" stroke)

  • they could switch cars and the same guy would win

  • @philtripe No.... the charger driver might not care about pushing the ford as it's not his car so... *it might go faster. (we used to let dumbass nimrods drive our kawi drag bikes... they went faster but they were hard on the equipment!)

  • @26yearstoorion isnt that what a drag bike is made for?...imo,if your going to buy a hot rod dont drive it the same way you would a buick...but of course your right if you want to maintain the value

  • lmao a 289 in a fairlane is faster then a new charger! just imagion if that fairlane had 351c or a 427

  • @dhonda200 just to be fair it's 1200+ lbs lighter!

  • 42 yr old 4.7 barely loses to a 1 yr old 5.7 or 6.1, good job fairlane

  • What size hemi is in the Challenger, 5.7 6.1 0r 6.4 ?. There is HP and Torque differences in EACH of those engines.

  • That Hemi has been sitting on the couch for YEARS...lightetn that thing up and ford wont have to show you how to "run"

  • this was filmed with a potato

  • why is the video in slo-motion?

  • Haha a 289 vs a hemi ? Lol lame hemi ! So a 302 will kill a hemi by 1/4 fender :)

  • both stock?

  • I'd rather have that Fairlane than 5 of those Challengers.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce Ya sure you would...your a jealous fuckin loser who wishs you could earn enough to own a new MOPAR....but you could afford a old rusty ford....perfect for you....fuckin moron

  • @bestofsevenrules I don't remember asking you shit boy. If you have a car your fucking cunt mom bought it for you. Probably by selling her diseased ass to your brother. Mind your fucking business.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce good answer! You sound like some wannabe punk loser gang member...not hard to understand where your logic comes from...I understand its all you can afford, thats cool....some advice though, STAY IN SCHOOL

  • @bestofsevenrules Dude, you got pissed at me over nothing man! I guess I should have made my feelings more clear. I prefer old muscle cars over new rides. I could have said I'd rather have 1 '70 Cuda than 5 of those Challengers and it would have been the same thing. I wasn't putting down Mopar, I just prefer older cars than new ones, whether they're Ford, GM, or Mopar. I'm also too old to be in a gang. I think gang members should all be executed to be honest. If you like new cars better, fine.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce I apoligize, I was out of line. I like the looks of the old ones more myself. I own a 2009 challenger SRT8, 6 speed, hemi orange. The wife has a 2010 challenger SRT8 furious fuscia, 6 speed also, hers is dodge 40th anniversary car, only 400 made for N.America, most limited production since its rebirth. They really are an amazing car to drive, but they don't look quite as nice, although their are many younger people who disagree. I do like the fairlane, I was being a bitch.

  • @bestofsevenrules No problem man. I'm sorry too for the juvenile crap I said. I'll bet they are fun to drive! Have a good one!

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce Thanks for that but I was way to defensive, I am old school to, luv the cars. I have a 71 Cuda absolutely mint, matching numbers but it sure doesn't drive like the new ones but absolutely beautiful. It is yellow with the black billboard, it turns a lot of heads...thanks again...take it easy

  • @bestofsevenrules You're welcome man and no problem. I'll bet that 71 is awesome. I agree that the newer cares drive and ride better, but it's a small sacrifice for classic muscle, ha! Man, I miss my 69 Mach I to this day! Peace man.

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce not me id sell all 5 challengers then buy that fairlane

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce I'd Rather have the challenger than 5 of those fairlane's

  • @SaviorSelf15 And I'm fine with that. That's your preference. As a former owner of a Dart Swinger, a '69 Mach I, a '71 Monte Carlo, etc.... I've always liked the classics better.

  • if I had a dollar for every pixel I'd have .50c

  • Doubt its actually a 289 anyway.(the phord) Probably a 347 stroker. Definitely not stock and for what its worth, my 4 door Dodge neon with 1700 dollars worth of mods would likely have spanked both of them with its measly 148 cubic inches (mid to high 12 car on street tires and pump gas). and maybe even when it was bone stock as it ran 13.6. BTW my Neon weighed 3140 with me in it and got 28 mpg.

  • @BigBlockMoparMan ^ aaannnnd cost less than half what the challenger does.

  • @BigBlockMoparMan NEON? HAAAAHAHHAHAAAHAHAAAA. What's your other car, a PT Cruiser?

  • @dalotel By your completely over the top laughter, I see that you unwittingly got my point. I laugh too. The Neon would embarrass a lot of cars. And no PT. A Dakota, 300 and old 1970 D-100 stepside as if it matters.

  • @BigBlockMoparMan Dodge is a failure. They rarely made anything worthwhile to ride. Modern cars have the strangest unreliability issues that no other car shares with it. Weak transmissions in FWD, bad AC units, and just plain ugly. Neon head gasket recalls, Dakota timing gear failure, D-100 is just one ugly truck with a horrible ride. The 300 is probably that old ghetto model with every option failing in the car?

  • @dalotel OH WTF -ever dude! I have owned all kinds of MOPARS through the years+ 1 ford, 1 buick and 1 chevy. Every single one one of them better looking than thier Jap/Euro crap counterpart. Not one has ever left me stranded due to mechanical failure and many were over 100,000 miles. 2 Neons, no head gasket probs, 2 Daks, no timing gear probs, 2003 300 w/167,000 miles and everything works, and my d-100 looks as good as any other 1970 truck did. You saying your brand X has no problems?

  • @dalotel

You also described GM cars/trucks with reliability problems, not only that, but there interiors suck and the lumina-S10 clunker, Crap Blazer should be thrown in that same category.

Compared with today’s cars. You’ll have to be out of your mind to choose a Impala over a Dodge Charger

    .

  • @dalotel Ah yes... the ol' "Which of the American car companies is best?" debate. (That has been going on for the past 40 years.) I have a friend that presently works at a Ford shop and sounds just like you - only that Fords are shit these days. Unfortunately, the sad truth is that the entire Big 3 mainly produce garbage that wildly depreciate in value.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa So you believe uncomfortable death traps with timing belt failure leading to bent valves is the way to go because of used book values? 40 years? Boy are you misinformed. How about 100 years? Ford what? All Fords are bad? Sure, whatever you say dumbass.

  • @dalotel WTF? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa You're a moron

  • @thunderbirdlver and your a filthy Cunt.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa I think you mean you're there moron. Now stay with me here... You're is a combination of the words you and are. I called you a moron and your reply actually says that you are my filthy cunt. On top of that you start your sentence with a lower case a yet capitalized your "C" in cunt. Such a fucking moron.

  • @thunderbirdlver Ironic, that you are calling me on YouTube spelling!!

    You're *there* moron. Hahahahaha.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa Oh boy did you show me!

  • This video is STUPID.

The Fairlaine is clearly a highly modified car, while the Dodge is essenitally bone stock.

In production line stock form, NO 289 Fairlane (including those equipped with the hipo solid liftr engine) could break into the 14s. Most 289 Fairlanes were high 16 second cars.

  • @harddrivin1le actually mid to high 14's were common for mild 289's, modded w/no overbore saw them in the 10's.. (i saw, drove & built these guys in the 70's)

  • Apples and oranges. I have no idea how a 289 with 250HP can beat a 500HP 6.1 L Challenger. This video only proves the Fairlane can't stop with drum brakes and it's 4 doors make it one ugly car. I wouldn't take a museum of Fairlanes for one modern muscle car. That old 289 didn't even run on unleaded fuel. I've driven both cars, the Challenger was in pussy mode. A press of a button makes a much stronger launch.

  • The Ford is 2,000 lbs lighter for cryin' out loud, with NO pollution control. The Challenger is a huge 300C chassis. Get real.

  • whats funny its a low hp 66 OR 67 ford 4 door. lol.

  • Shave a 1000 pounds and install a 426, now your talkin. Then you would have a real E body circa 1970. Still no substitute.

  • 289 fords rap fast great engines low tech run great

  • lol the only Pontiac tool on youtube made a comment because his inferior car was left out. Ford, Chevy and dodge built the muscle that today cars rely on. Not lower quality sister car companies. Take your rubbish comments elsewhere.

  • Ok everyone. A 289 is one of the smallest engines you could have bought in that car. That @MrIslandguy46 knows nothing! Yeah that is a 2008 HEMI car that is the biggest motor you can get in that car. How bout you line it up against the biggest you can get in the 67 Fairlane. The 425hp 427.... that challenger would not have a chance!

  • Both Dodge and Ford sucks sorry to say and i am a 70s muscle car guy .2nd Generation Trans AM s are the Real Muscle cars period..1969 Trans Am first ever,1970 ram air 3 or the 4.1973 455SD and 1978 400 4 speed ..what a lovely List...

  • why do people who have such great, expensive cars have the shittiest cameras known to man?

  • @VikefanTony they know to spend the money where it counts =D

  • @VikefanTony No cameras just potatos.

  • @VikefanTony cuz their cars are really really expensive

  • When will Americans learn autos are so much slower off the line and changing gears

  • @TheDarragh96 what? I prefer manuals, but autos have a more consistent launch and they hook a bit better, and they shift faster too of course since there is no time lost in using a clutch.

  • @alessandrozerbone Ive driven a new car with an auto box and compared to me shifting gears it takes an eternity

  • @TheDarragh96 Well that's odd, I guess it just boils down to how skilled one is with a manual tranny.

  • The dodge has a 6.0 in it, and ford/chevy's muscles have like 5.4-7 right?

  • Comment removed

  • @xforce687 depends on the year and car make and what you consider "muscle"

  • That Fairlane runs really strong. It's got the right gears, the motor never bogs. I drove a SRT Challenger & it felt huge & unresponsive. It's beautiful, great interior though.

  • @mrat455 AGREED! put that slob on a diet! just goes to show you sometimes "technology" cant always beat old school muscle

  • Idk maybe its the drivers or the rides cuz I smoked one on the freeway n laughed cuz I still hadn't changed my motor or rear end. Had a 289 n now I got a 302 bored n ported n put a few lil things in like a cam headers and so on...can't wait to break her in n test it out....should be pushing close to 400hp at the wheels but haven't dyno'd it just yet

  • GOT BLOWN AWAY FROM A FOUR DOOR! HAHA TWO MANY DOORS ALL THE WAY!!! OLDSCHOOL VS NEWSCHOOL ALL THE WAY!

  • old school vs new school any day

  • To get a 4 door fairlane to run 12.80's with a 289ci motor is going to take a lot of work, a lot of money, or a lot of N2O. Fat Challenger.

  • man its not the car its how much balls the driver has if i was in the challenger that ford wouldnt stand a chance if the dodge was a v-8 and it didnt look like it had one

  • oh i dont beleive the hemi was out in the challenger 08 which correct me was the first year .

  • challengers are the shit

  • apples to oranges. gearing? emissions standards? and i suppose i should believe that the fairlane has the OEM engine parts on it... fair race and both are cool cars, but not really in the same league.

  • You guys are funny, 289 fords have gone as fast as 10.90's in a full size car...w/o nitrous or chargers! (faster in lightweights) LOL * 3inch stroke X 4inch bore can be a high winding creature in the right hands.. how does 10,0000 RPM in racing tune grab ya?) *next lesson: FORD 302 BOSS... the first mating of a Cleaveland series head on an iron block, 9,000+ RPM stock "if"you unplug the stock rev limiter and HP goes way past the fact. 290HP rating.

  • Does it have 302 heads on it?

  • I own a Challenger and would hang my head in shame if a 4 door ford pulled me that hard off the line,I guess at least he came back and got grandpas ford.

  • I left the new dodge challenger about 16cars behind me and only grew over time, start to finish...

The new challengers suck ass. Older cars are my thing, everything newer (1980 and up) Sucks.

    My opinion.

  • Dom is a queer

  • Challenger has beaten mustangs and camaros, its a back and forth fight, alot depends on the driver, yeah its heavy, but it would keep on pulling and pulling, just didnt have the room to gallop, just like Dom said, "it dont matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning"

  • Speaking from experience..after running Fords since 1964...the 289 was a vicious engine..in the AC Cobra using Guerney/Westlake heads, shot peened rods and 8 Weber Carbs... we kicked the shit out of every Chevrolet we came up against...came out of the hole @ 7000rpm and went 14k rpm per shift....made the Chibbie Dudes look like a bunch of fuckin nose pickers... they just weren't smart enough to figure it out...a bunch of dim wittied louts they were...

  • Everyone knows dodge rules beat a ford muscle car and the challenger is just a plain jane factory car.Well not everyone can afford a DODGE. Go green crush a Ford...

  • owneeeeeeeeeeed

  • Shame on you for racing grandma's grocery-getter! And look at that small block hemi almost losing the race....

  • Dodge junk

  • dodge sucks really racing a 289 and barely winning?not impressed.new mustang or camaro with similar displacement will eat challenger.maybe dodge should put that 4100 lb pig on a diet.

  • @mrat455 That's what I've been telling those schmucks all along, GM boys included. Seriously? You have to run a 350, 383, or a 454 to beat someone? Heaven forbid if the opposition brought out their big guns! Like shit stains and spilled beer, that would be a fucking tragedy!

  • @mrat455 how bad do you want to see a 180ci 2jz do 7's in the 1/4 ;) street legal!

  • @BIHxJDMxSUPRA about as bad as watching your grandma doing take a shit.

  • @mrat455 ... and how much does the new camaro weigh?

  • Comment removed

  • @frankenstein01 its around 3780

  • @mrat455 "The SS has the highest weight of 3860 for the manual, and 3913 for the automatic." not exactly a lightweight either

  • @mrat455 What's wrong with a 289?We have one in a 65 Mustang that runs 12.8 at 110. It's not the fastest but can hold it's own.

  • @mrat455

Those Ford 289's are quick motors. Don't let the small CID fool you... They will hold their own against most anything...

  • @scott93257 That is true Scott. The 289/302 is a very respectible motor.

  • @misssusan29

Yes indeed... I had a Maverick with the 302... That thing ran really well... It had a little work done to it and it was quick to upset a Chevy 350 :)

  • @mrat455 The 289 was a small block designed to race...the small displacement dont mean anything. small displacement doesnt necessarily mean small power. i have seen 289s that run low 10s in the quarter mile

  • @mrat455 that 289's biult dude

  • @mrat455 dodge is my favorite brand but racing with an older car new cars wont win you see old cars had looks and power at the same time oh and i liked your comment so not hate in that totaly agree with you i like dodges fords and chevy trucks and cars only the old school ones

  • @mrat455 There are Euro end Japan cars for ligtht cars..For me american cars are big, crome end petrol V8.

  • @mrat455

  • @mrat455 agree its too heavy. but the displacement comment holds now validity... example, Evo XIII. 122 cubic inches. it rips a lot of cars. now, granted it is AWD. another thing, correct me if im wrong the Fairlane has just over 1,000 pounds off the challenger. weighing in at 3122 (SRT8- 4140). so power to weight ratio is something to factor in too. but if we would like to go back to the cid difference, a Toyota Supra, 2jz has a 182.9cid engine, and honestly would beat the Fairlane

  • @mrat455 dont want to say anything without proof,

    Performance: Torino Cobra 428/335: 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14.4 seconds @ 101 mph.

    thats a '69 TC

    now, a '95 Supra

    1995 Toyota Supra Turbo. 0-60= 5.1 1/4 mile 13.5

  • @mobsterbillyjoe Supra is gone, most are smoking and knocking now by their young "have no idea what redline means" owners that abused them. The Torino Cobra 428 is too old to run anywhere and too valuable, it's a museum piece now if it's not rusted out or blown up. Nice research though. Personally I'd get a ZR1 and throw the datasheet away.

  • @dalotel Supra is gone? That is funny, because I have a couple friends who have them, still original, some modified. Still running like the day they were rolled out. Now, a 30k MSRP, i doubt young people were buying them. Your only attempt at shooting down facts is that, and saying the Cobra is too valuable? Granted it is, but if they were driven like they were built for, it still loses in a race. Remember, this is about racing with smaller cid engines, not value.

  • @mrat455 or maybe a 392cui engine that would smoke the SS and 5.0? Yeah that'd be cool

  • @mrat455 the 2008 was slow as hell dude...the 2011 has 470 HP with a 392 hemi

  • What model of toaster did you use to film this ?

  • @GoodDayAmerica it was actually the new "IDAHO" from KODAK!

  • u gotta love that old s- it.

  • Who win?the cuality suck!!!

  • HA Ford power as a 4 Door 289ci Fairlane stays with a a gasp HEMI CUDA Ford Rules Baby!

  • nice start from Fairlane

  • Sweet!! Old school wins out!! Talk on it boys.. and gals.. even today, the older works better.

  • i didnt know they made 4 door fairlanes

  • @moparpadilla They most certainly did. I have a white 4 door '66 Fairlane 500. The 2 doors look beast, but the 4 doors are amazing for cruising... and that ride.... my god, that ride...

  • Looks like a strong enough 289. I've seen a guy go 12.80s @ 106 mph in a '69 Cougar with a little old 289. Solid cam, GT40P heads (my favorite heads), RPM intake, long tubes etc. Toploader 4 speed and 4.10 gears. Shifting at 7400 rpm. On a nother note, I am working with a friend on a really neat, really nice 1964 Fairlane. It has the Rod's Customs suspension kit. Full adjustable coilovers, Mustang II front suspension, 4 link rear, 12" Wilwood discs and 4 piston calipers all around.

  • Full tubular steel control arms front and rear, everything is powder coated, lots of custom fabrication, it has the restomod look with 18" wheels and low-pro tires, it will sit somewhat low when done. Strong 302 engine, about 350 hp backed by a mild C4. The car is being built to sell at Barret Jackson down the road, it will be nearly perfect and very well done. The goal is a beautiful looking restomod Fairlane capable of tearing up a road course.

  • umm, Traction loc killed the Mopar

  • @Jperales96

how could have possibly been filmed in 1967 if theres a 2008 challenger

    please explain

  • @str8ball3r24 Wormhole.

  • @str8ball3r24

    He was joking.

  • @str8ball3r24 He's making fun of the horrid video quality

  • Whooped by the grandpa car. HOW U FEELIN NIGGUH?

  • @bloodhoun138 That grandpa car is a MOTHER FUCKING MONSTER you bitch!

  • @GarumDesh I was bagging on the Challenger. My dad owns a 67 fairlaine and I know how badass they are. YOU BITCH!

  • @bloodhoun138 Epic shit epic shit!

  • took my boss' '78 t/a with a '71 catalina 4-door. 13.73 to 13.77. not bad eh?

  • First. On. Race. Day.

  • Yup, they defiantly took a 08 challenger to the past. Assuming by the video quality.

  • Umm....Didn't the Challenger win? Because it looks like it to me.

  • I dont know why but i jumped out of my chair and SCREAM, OLD SCHOOL OLD SCHOOL !!!!!!!!!!!! SUCKED IT!

  • Car racing can't last forever.

  • Yo man that was SHIT!

  • dude i think this was filmed in 1967

  • @Jperales96 Hahahahah...I was thinking the same thing.

  • @Jperales96 : Agree, looks like the shitty 60's once again.

  • @Jperales96 yep. definetley explains the '08 challanger. dumbass.

  • Comment removed

  • fairlane rocks

  • god damn thats a built little 289 nice!!!

  • Too bad the new challengers are slow as fuck.

  • HMMM a little 289 pullin a hemi Challenger maybe I won't get a new Challenger after all and just built a old rig less money more respect cooler than hell.

  • Old vs. New ..... Old wins again !! ..

  • not bad if we consider that the Fairlane is 40 years older, the engine is smaller and the body is much more heavier than the Dodge

  • @irongoxi Nope... The fairlane's a lovely, beautiful old car that represents a time in history, but there's just no way a stock 289 could beat a challenger. The Challenger is way heavier, being nearly a 2 ton car, while the fairlane weights 1.5 tons (look it up) The challenger still can do, stock to stock, 0-60 half of the time... This fairlane is probably lightened and upgraded while the challenger should be bone stock.

  • @irongoxi The Fairlane with a 390 is over 600 pounds lighter than the V6 Challenger. A Hemi puts the Challenger more than 1000 pounds heavier than the Fairlane. Throw in the traction control that killed the launch and you've got this race.

Still respectable from a 42 year old car with a little 4.7 in it.

  • @94XJ sorry, I didn't know that Challenger is heavier, I thought it was lighter just becasuse it's newer and pony cars suposed to be shorter and lighter than mid size muscle cars, but comfort and luxury weights a lot, that's why I still prefer the old school pony/muscle era

  • @irongoxi Yeah, it's actually based off the 300C/Charger platform. It's a big, heavy car.

  • @94XJ Dodge should develop another lighter platform, the fifth gen Mustang have it's own D2C platform, and was individually designed, not sharing components with the full size sedans. It's weird that Dodge did this to cut down production costs, but still being more expensive

  • MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK HIGH TECH

  • WTF...a 4 door? what a waste of time and money!

  • is that an rt or an srt8 challenger??

  • i just watched the other video of the big block chevelle and the s10..i think this little 289 would out run that big block chevelle ...i'm liking the fairlane..cool car..i will bet joe friday is looking down and smiling on the fairlane...and also thinking of a bunch of violations too..lol

  • Some people just need to hate on others. Enjoyed the race.

  • 2008 FAILS !!! 4ckin sick car =))

  • go blue ovals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
