  • Kirk..."Why Lincoln, Mr. Spock?" Spock... "Because he always has been ur hero, Jim." Kirk.."Not only mine Mr. Spock. You seem to like him too." Spock...."Not really. I was always more partial to Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. I just wouldn't say anything with Uhura always on the bridge."

  • Another awful episode, this time redeemed only by comic value and those uniforms.

The meeting between Uhura and Lincon was cringe-worthy, but what was worse was the reaction to his slip -- boy, they really got the future wrong, didn't they?

  • send a redshirt down first

  • ROCK LOBster!!!!

  • Lincoln was tossin that Klingon around !

  • The repetitive commercials begin to repel any desire to buy their product having been extremely annoyed by them.

  • they were definitely slipping with this episode

  • I think that perhaps the cook confused sugar with PCP when they made the punch at the previous night's office party.

  • 20:53

Kirk: Spock, when you made that chicken marsala, what kind of mushrooms did you use?

  • oh god i love scotty's accent! <3

  • O.K. On the evil side we have... WAIT!! NO George Bush?! xD

  • @MsTwinkle101 O.K. On the good for nothing side we have.... WAIT!! NO barack hussein obama?!

  • Jungle Fever

  • old abe is floating in a chair in the middle of space talking to a starship . . but he finds taped music and the transporter unbelievable . . .. lol

  • @controlledfolly11 that's because he wasn't really abraham lincoln. His personality and appearance was fabricated by that rock-like species by reading Kirk's mind.

  • "A charming Negress."

    hahahahahahaha

  • lol did anyone else notice how at 28:04 kirks pats rip. XD

  • @sromesburg oh no they did!! haha no undies!!

  • taped music, lol.

  • Green looks more like Nixon, if you ask me... or I'm just used to the old SNL impressions of him

  • Talking piece of poop!!

  • @joey100andone

     with light-up chunks!!!!!!

  • if the "evil" team was offered power, and it took more than the offer of their own lives and instead the threat of the death of the crew to "force" kirk and spock to fight, then shouldn't the difference have been obvious to the rock creature in the beginning? evil is selfish, and doesn't hesitate to fight for personal gain, good isn't necessarily the absence of violence, but fights for the good of others (in the parameters of this episode, mind you; i'm not making a generalization.)

  • I always loved this episode. The battle between good and evil, vividly illustrated using historical characters. It was a great idea! Stop badmouthing this episode!

  • OMG Abraham Lincoln VS Kahless = WIN!!!

  • You have to fight for your life and to help you get a middle age lawyer and man that refuses to fight. OH GOODY, WERE DO I GO TO SIGN UP WITH COL. GREENS ARMY

  • I'm not sure that it's so much a question of illicit drug use on the Enterprise so much as among the episode's writers... This was, after all, '69.

  • Great book (Did these stories really happen?) has great Shatner dedication! Book at amazon!

  • Kirk says they can "convert" to minutes for time measurement - but the previous episode hinged entirely on a 2-hour deadline. :)

  • Spock: Captain, President Abraham Lincoln is on-screen.

Kirk: I think that acid is starting to kick-in.

  • 13:45

Spock - (points)"More that direction engineer."

That was a very unsophisticated way of correcting Scotty, Mr. Spock.

  • lol that rock thing looks like its smoking...

  • did anyone else bust out laughing when the guy says "i am abraham lincoln"?

  • I love that they use minutes in almost every episode, but Kirk is like "Oh we can convert to it."

  • @danicabudge2 Huh!!!? 4:48 oh...

  • scotty is wearing a skirt/kilt lol.

  • @AFriendOfJesus1 it's a Kilt Skirts you wear stuff under Kilts you do not lol

  • Aaaah interesting episode... I'm so glad that they actually used some of Surak's sayings :)

  • 45:00 No not Lincoln!

  • LOL @ all the people complaining about commercials, havnt seen one in years, firefox+adblocker = no ads..

  • Youtube please turn down the advertisment volume ! It is over double the movie so bost are unwatchable for me. I think the advertisment has damaged one of my speakers !

  • It's Survivor! The Real Game!!! Star Trek Edition!

  • About the time Lincoln showed up in the monitor I think I would have asked who was blowing the marijuana smoke into the ventilation systems.

  • @Demithegoddess

Does that mean that you've never smoked marijuana then?

  • Full dress? all they do is put on fancy shirts!

  • More that direction!! LO F-ing L!!

    13:40!

  • Evil holographic simulated evil Lincoln's back!

  • that rock creature looks like a pile of dog shit.

  • @HuasoPodrido It is a poop monster like the one in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. LoL

  • This episode reminds me of Solaris (the original)

  • KIIILLLLLLTTTTTT!!!!!!!!

I love when scotty whrs his kilt.

  • 28:06... Watch Captain Kirks Pants Rip! How exciting!

  • Lincoln gave orders that sent 100,000 men to their deaths? Try over 600,000 men to their deaths, that would be more like it.

With that said, I still support what Lincoln did in the Civil War.

  • "I am Captain Ahab!"

  • Why does Lincoln's makeup look like it was done by the Planet of the Apes people?

  • ohmygod!!!!!!!! KILT!!! lmao

  • I love how when Kirk says "Full dress uniforms,"

    Scotty puts on his kilt.

  • All is as it appears to be: I am Abraham Lincoln.

*Sorry you don't appear to be Abraham Lincoln.*

    :P

  • I hope CBS puts TAS and TNG and even DS9

  • They would make money from the advertisements just the same, wouldnt they? I hope they do. I'd never pay 100s of dollars for those complete season dvd sets.

  • wow, from Dr. Fang to Dr. Krant

  • 44:31

wow what a convincing cry for help...

acting as someone who acts as some else must be a major challenge.

  • Good old Ab is kickin' some a#$!?

  • Comment removed

  • You know i've noticed that some of the commentators on these videos always try to get so deep,i mean please just stop. This isnt school and you arent my teacher, just sit back and enjoy the show!

  • This movie failed to recognize the basic differences between good and evil, and Kirk failed to address the lava man's flawed logic. Knowledge does not supercede right to life, nor does the winner of a battle prove which is better, for while evil may win battles, it is still seen as evil. Thank God that evil will not win in the long run.

  • Well good wins because balance is a circle and our world is an oval. So one side of the balance of good and evil is stronger. It has been proven that good is the one with the slight advantage.

  • Um, no offense, but what are you talking about?

  • this is the long run

  • I agree that the episode failed in its attempts, but only because it didn't really address the point made at the end about want of power as opposed to desire to save others... the lava fellow should have recognized that that defined the difference, but it seemed like Kirk and Spock didn't even get it. Then they returned to the Enterprise without warning Star Fleet about the immense danger of this planet. Tsk.

  • Kirk and spock got it because the creatures obviously have the same curiosity about finding out new things.

And the experiment set up was flawed logically because the variables in the experiment were tainted by the experimenters own viewpoint of what G and E are.

Creatures, races, even individuals can have a flawed logic, especially an isolated species, that is based on their own customs, which are unknown. So with that perspective, the lava feels the experiment is sound and logical.

  • and Kirk would warn Starfleet in his Log entry, which would be analyzed by star fleet command, with his recommendation that the planet to be quarantined. Likely, star fleet would send an ambassador to "break bread" with the Lava creatures, especially to learn how they manipulate matter. Perhaps starfleet did, and this is the point where the technology for the TNG holo-deck was conceived.

  • Think I could sue Google for damaging my hearing because I can't mute the obnoxiously loud commercials fast enough?

  • nope because the commercials arent loud, the show is simply quiet. i answered why before on a bunch of episodes to random people that ask lol but ima not gonna again =p.

  • Mozilla= no commercials ftw

  • Shatner dedication in great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) at amazon!

  • Do the Colgate commercials have to be 3 times louder?

I have to grab my volume control every time in order to save myself from hearing damage!

Colgate saves your teeth, but destroys your hearing! lol

  • What commercials?

  • There's like 4 in almost every episode. Not from the TV series, but online you know!

The Colgate's were ripping loud...now it is INTEL.

  • Erm... I can't say I've ever seen an advertisement...

In fact I havn't seen an advertisement in years...

I use FireFox with the AdBlock Plus extension... Yeah, I know I'm a cheating D-bag for doing so, but I just cant stand adverts....

  • Lucky you! I'm on IE...

At least I can mute them on my TV! lol

  • God, because of CBS I'll never be able to use Colgate toothpaste again...

  • lol, that dashing kilt really lets Scotty's true heritage shine thru and makes him even more insubordinate than usual.

Louis of France and Robert the bruce, indeed...

classic Scotty! we love u :)

  • Spock, help me Spock! lol

  • scotty is wearing a kilt

  • Kirk doesn't like it when you mess with Lincoln. X]

  • SURAK KICKED BUTT!!!! then he died and kirk's pants split. at least he was an illusion :O...

    or was he...

  • I used to like Brooke Shields.

  • At 28:06, not only does Kirk's pants split open, but it appears that he is not wearing any underwear! Funny!

  • I think this episode had the most scarey looking creature on TOS that I can remember from my childhood. It makes you want to blow the planet up before leaving orbit... of course that monster would have read Kirk's thoughts beforehand.

  • he's too fat to be abe lincoln!

  • 28:06 - Do Kirk's pants suddenly rip at the seams?

  • In the pictures I see of Gengkis Khan, he isn't dark skinned as he is in this episode!

And in "The Trouble with Tribbles" the Klingons aren't dark skinned either. To make whites hate them more, they gave them dark skin, and Asian features.

Which I always thought was odd, being tht the themes of Star Trek was often about tolerance.

  • "In our century we have learned not to fear words."

    I love her lol

  • "In our century we have learned not to fear words."

I'm still waiting for that century to come. In THIS century, we're still terrified of 'em!

  • abe is too short

  • lincoln knew voice telegraph devices and knew whento fly over to beam him up but he didnt understand recorded music????

  • "Jim, I would be the last to advise you on your command image--"

"--I doubt that Bones, but continue."

    LOL

  • 13:47

  • 2:36

Sulu is totally thinking, "You gotta be f*cking kidding."

  • hahaha yeah that's what i thought too lol

  • That Vulcan guy's got skinny legs!

They should have chosen Hitler, not Khan, or Stalin, at the very least.

  • Abraham lincoln? wtf haha thats crazy.

  • I love how at 16:10 Spock is like "Shut up, I'm going with you." It's cute.

  • Abe: Captain Kirk, I assume.

Kirk: ...Um, yeah... come back in like a minute dude; I'm still kinda in WTF shock.

  • I'm not sure Abe Lincoln is tall enough.

  • Lincoln was 6'4". Shatner is 5'9.5" The actor playing Lincoln looks like maybe no more than an inch taller than Shatner. I don't believe that Mr. Self-Absorbed would have allowed a 6'4" actor anywhere near the set.

  • Lol. Shatner's ego pwns reality.

  • at 32:15

Colonel Green sounds exactly like George W. Bush.!!

  • He reminds me of Ernest Borgnine

  • Why is Scottys dress uniform comprised of a kilt??? I know he's scottish (obviously), but he's in STARFLEET, not the scottish space fleet.

  • Yeah... I've wondered that before. The last time though, the kilt was even more rediculous.

  • Like how Worf on TNG wears the Klingon sash over his uniform. The officer may choose to wear variations of the Starfleet uniform according to their traditional garb. I'm sure it was Scotty's choice; its not like Starfleet said, "You're Scottish, Mr. Scott. Look like one."

  • Very good Uzutake - Spock wore a Vulcan medal in an episode and was chided by another character.

  • Uhura looks better with the other haircut. Sorry, random useless observation

  • You mean with her bangs? I agree.

I was also a bit turned off when Scotty got short hair at the beginning of the season. I was so used to him with a little side fringey thing.

  • ooops I mean the mid 19th. century!! They said earth 20th. century so many times I got used to it!

  • oh!

The late 20th. century earth president named Abraham Lincoln!

  • "A Charming Negro." LOL

  • Abe in outter space?WTF?LOLz

  • Have to admire this episode for making silly goings-on as plausible as possible.

  • What the Crap!?! Abraham Lincoln?!? 8O

    shouldnt he be taller?

  • This is the second episode that made me go absolutely "WTF" at the very beginning. The other one was when McCoy saw the white rabbit.

  • Spock is pure love. He's so illogically logical. ANNNDDDD, Captain Kirk! He's thin and lovely here! :3

I love these shows, pure and utter history!

  • it's iteresting how Kalees is shown as a vilen here but depicted as a hero in the next generation era.

  • The actual Kahless would never have agreed to attack like Green had them do in the midst of negotiations. That would not be honorable and warrior like.

  • Genghis Kahn is evil... I didn't know that. True he was a conqueror, but evil? His methods were no more harsh than others of his period. I agree with JIMJ32X, someone with Kahn's reputation would not follow another.

Hitler I think would have been a better choice. He committed great acts of evil in trying to exterminate an entire people.

As far as Obama is concerned, history has yet to tell. Will he bring the hope and change or is he yet another politician? I am starting to lose hope.

  • I agree Hitler would have been a better choice, but since this show was made only 25 years after the end of WW2 the network would have never considered it. The wounds were still too fresh. A good evil team would be: Hitler, Stalin, Saddam Hussein and Idi Amin.

  • Comment removed

  • oh i'm sure they're all sharing the same space somewhere.. most likely.. 5th ring down, turn left, pit 4.

  • suspending the date this show was actually made...if Lincoln was there....where was Obama???

  • I heard that Lincoln had a very scratchy, high voice. XP

    wouldn't that be terrible?

  • its abe lincoln! i would be laughing so loud

  • There is a flaw with the evil ones in this episode. They are all supposed to be power crazed madmen, yet they are taking orders from colonel Green? They would most likely be warring amongst themselves for control, and Kirk Spock and the good guys would wipe them out. Still all in all a good episode, one of the better ones from the third season.

  • Okay - I really wish the ad segments weren't 20x louder than the show footage. Having to constantly adjust the volume is annoying.

  • I fast forward and let the commercials play while on mute. Then watch the show commercial free.

  • The old 60s Star Trek theme song - one of my favorite TV themes of all time! Needless to say it's one of my ringtones. There I said it. :)

  • Surak is SOOOOOOO cool!

  • Sarek(?) has really pretty eyes!

  • In a battle against good and evil...Why do all the bad guys get the vicious warrior types while the good side gets...Lincoln...and Seraph(?). It doesn't sound like fair game to me. :O

  • Come on. Who can hate space hippies, they're comedy gold!

  • Unfortunately this ep is not one of the gems, tied for worst ep of the series along with Spock and the space hippies (people should campaign to have the name legally changed to this, since it should be called nothing else).

  • 13:45 - 13:50

lol! he's so serious about it bahaha :)

  • 26:00 - 26:05 Kirks face when the guy asks him "can i talk to you".

  • i saw it too!!! lol!!!!

  • haha i jus seen dat lolz

  • At 28:05 Kirk splits his pants

  • hahahahhaha! Amazing!

  • 20:08

    *sighs* Live long and prosper.....

  • My only problem with this episode is how they portray Genghis Khan, one of the great military geniuses and rulers of all time, as a big lug. Someone didn't do their homework.

  • I agree. We know practically nothing about Khan himself. But he must have had quite a lot of inteligence to be able to come from a small raiding group to the conquorer of the known world. The only thing that protected Europe from him was his death.

  • That's the only inaccuracy you noticed in this episode, I guess giant molten are really testing us. This is all only a tv show.

  • I thought this was really good why all the beef?

  • If its possible for a show like Star Trek to jump the shark, the did it when a glowing Abe Lincoln zoomed up to the viewscreen...

  • Even die hard fans gotta admit that once roddenberry got fed up with NBC, the third season got terribly corny...although there are still some gems.

  • I am still so right.

  • halfwit.

  • ;)

we all love star trek don't we?

  • Comment removed

  • more that direction *points*

    dont we love spock?

  • Potential contradiction in the Star Trek universe around 23 minutes. There was a Klingon who set up his planet's philosophy of tyranny. But the guy did not have a bumpy head. The Klingons were all bumpy headed in the days of Archer, when they were pretty tyrannical. The genetically altered smooth headed Klingon's came about as a result of disease in that time.

  • remember, the famous people are created according to Kirk and Spock's imagination

  • Help Me Spock!

  • A Vulcan would not cry out so.

  • Yea the galaxy does have a vested interest in the development of Earth because its a t.v show! What historical figures would they base their characters on other than real ones? Especially since aliens don't exist yet.
