more idiots flying without training and licences... makes it look bad for the sport. Its when emergencies happen that all that training comes instantly into action. Those who have training usually land ok. those who dont, well youve seen this video.
@michaelpilot1000 its a hangglidding wing uprated to handle the new speeds and loads and the fabric is special nylon. Often emergency landings in microlights are safetr because touch down speed is 40 mph... verses 80mph in light aircraft. Do the math ;-)
Like the European statistics, the ultralight aircraft have the same accident rate as your belived "certified aircraft" an not more injuries or deaths, but the buy price, maintenance and consumption from a ultralight is 10x less than a certified aircraft...
Its a Sabre trike ,trike frame+ engine without wing weighs @ 200#s. with his Sabre 16s wing you can add another 100lbs. probabaly 50 or 60lbs over. its the fibreglass landing gear that adds up the weight. looks ultralight. but when the faa looks into it they are going to know.I know I tried to get mine with in the magic #254 with a 503, won't happen. Sad that the Faa wont at least up the weight limit to a safe standard.
probably BRS or other type of parachute could save him safety.....
