excellent fight, cotto did an outstanding job of boxing, but margaritos chin is too damn strong. he took every shot from cotto just to get close to him and do some damage. The main reason that most analysts and myself are picking margarito to win is because of the williams fight. williams kod quintana, a solid welter 1st rd. Tony took those punches and more. williams 6-2 162 fight time is a jr mid or middle. he will fight pavlik now. truth that tony was fighting a midw. he backed him up all night. williams stated the fight was hell and he was hurt . tony started fighting rd 6 and was too spent to finish him. tony can take a middles punch and back him up.
margarito is a very overrated fighter. Everyone says that he can resist everything but im sure he havent fight a boxer like cotto. Cotto is the quickest and the best body puncher in the sport. Im Puerto RIcan but i wasnt a fan of cotto from the beggining. At start he lacked defense and fighted like a crazy. But when he climbed up to the 147 pds he became something else. He can box, he can punch, he can ko. I dont think a unidimensional fighter like margarito can win, he just throw punches crazy

I agree with you on that but I think Cotto's punches would be more effective if the fight goes the distance. Margarito is not a very sound puncher, he tends to throw looping punches alot and Cotto has been showing better movement as of late. How ever Margarito may be the first fighter to actually have the power to put Cotto down and keep him their. Cotto does have a questionable chin, so a good hard punch by Marg might get Cotto in some trouble but Don't forget that Cotto has a tremendous heart that surprisingly nobody has mentioned on here. It will take more than just one hard punch to finish Cotto. It's a "pick em" fight. I've mentioned the heart factor, I believe Cotto's has a tremendous heart, more then many fighters today. I think that Cotto has a better chance at winning because his punches are alot cleaner then Marg's. He throws lot's of looping punches that Cotto can move under. I think Cotto has to stay on his game and remain close as Tony's punches won't get alot on them from being in his face. Cotto is able to really get alot behind his punches up close to the body and I don't think Tony's ever felt that kind of power in his ribs and kidneys. Even though I had margarito winning by tko and cotto lost doesn't mean that cotto now sucks. See is not because you loose 1,2,3,4 etc fights you suck. Remember ali lost then came back not just ali many greats have losses so this loss doesn't put cotto down. I thought i was the only one who saw Cotto on wheels all night, lol. When floyd does it it's more effective, but still he gets bash for doing it. Cotto was in survival mode all night..no real commitment to his punches they look good and snappy, but his weight was not behind them, he even abandoned his body punching. Margarito didnt seem to have good aim tonight, cotto was moving around nicely and he couldnt get some nice power punches landed. i was goin for margarito all along since im mexican, i was a bit dissapointed that margarito didnt fight as good as he usually does, but he still go the win.

wow what a fight. I thought cotto was going to win after 9th by dec. in 10th he decided to stay in the pocket and slug it out on the ropes and got caught in the last 20 sec and tony finished him off in the 11th. There could easily be a rematch. this was a really great fight. cotto was actually out boxing him making him miss. and making him pay. just stayed in the pocket too long. props to Tony he took all cottos best shots was shaken a bit but kept comming. props to cotto for giving his all.

The main reason that most analysts and myself are picking margarito to win is because of the williams fight. williams kod quintana, a solid welter 1st rd. Tony took those punches and more. williams 6-2 162 fight time is a jr mid or middle. he will fight pavlik now. truth that tony was fighting a midw. he backed him up all night. williams stated the fight was hell and he was hurt . tony started fighting rd 6 and was too spent to finish him. tony can take a middles punch and back him up.

margarito is a very overrated fighter. Everyone says that he can resist everything but im sure he havent fight a boxer like cotto. Cotto is the quickest and the best body puncher in the sport. Im Puerto RIcan but i wasnt a fan of cotto from the beggining. At start he lacked defense and fighted like a crazy. But when he climbed up to the 147 pds he became something else. I agree with you on that but I think Cotto's punches would be more effective if the fight goes the distance. Margarito is not a very sound puncher, he tends to throw looping punches alot and Cotto has been showing better movement as of late. How ever Margarito may be the first fighter to actually have the power to put Cotto down and keep him their. But Cotto also posses the power in both hands to really have Margarito with his elbows pinned to his hips from those body shots...

Cotto does have a questionable chin, so a good hard punch by Marg might get Cotto in some trouble but Don't forget that Cotto has a tremendous heart that surprisingly nobody has mentioned on here. It will take more than just one hard punch to finish Cotto. It's a "pick em" fight. Both have power,Cotto has the speed, and Marg has the reach which if he adds the timing into the iquation he can take the speed away from cotto. Cotto or Marg by ko or tko.

I've mentioned the heart factor, I believe Cotto's has a tremendous heart, more then many fighters today. I think that Cotto has a better chance at winning because his punches are alot cleaner then Marg's. He throws lot's of looping punches that Cotto can move under. I think Cotto has to stay on his game and remain close as Tony's punches won't get alot on them from being in his face. Cotto is able to really get alot behind his punches up close to the body and I don't think Tony's ever felt that kind of power in his ribs and kidneys. That could happen but don't forget that Cotto can box a bit - he didn't knock Mosley out and used he used his jab and straight right hand to rack up points while to a large extent staying out of trouble. Like the guy on this video says at the start Miguel Cotto is a complete package who is more technically sound that Margarito. However Miguel Cotto definitely has his work cut out for him - Margarito is big, strong and can hit and Cotto will have to deal with lots of adversity to win.

both guys are tough guys and big punchers... but i think it depends if margarito's chin and body can hold up to cotto's punches... if he can, i think he knocks out cotto... i don't think it goes the full 12.

Margarito is a great puncher but he is too slow for cotto, also cotto has improved his deffense by coverying better his chin. Margarito throws a lot of wide punches living his body open for cotto's great devastating buddy punches. cotto has better reflex wish allow him to dodge some of the margarito hard punches. my predictions-cotto by unanimus decision and if he is able to land a lot of bodyshots it could posibly be a cotto's tko win in the ten round.

cotto is a great boxer but so is margarito...there are many intangibles that go into the matchup...like "chin" speed height size leverage...tuffness etc imo i see Margarito getting a KO in another "timeless classic" Mexican vs Puerto Rican matchup...either way its gonna be win win for the true fightfans...reminiscent of Sanchez vs Gomez or Vargas vs Trinidad...we get to add Margarito vs Cotto...i cant wait for this one their will be an truely electric feeling for this one

i think margarito will knock out cotto everyone says cotto has more boxing skills but margarito throws 160 punches per round and how good can u box if margarito is going to be on him with crazy presure its going to turn to a slugfest mark my words someone is getting knocked out the reason think its going to be cotto is beceause he has a glass jaw margarito in 11 round

I mean, along with what you say, it don't really matter if Cotto's sharp and strong, when he's going to be in there with another equally strong guy, possibly even more so, who can throw many more -- again, HARD shots -- each round from various points (uppers, jabs, hooks) + he's PROVEN he can take SOLID punches back WITHOUT FLINCHING. Cotto's gettin' crushed. Better luck next time.

I guarantee that Cotto will turn boxer in this fight.
People rave about his power and his willingness to trade inside, but in this fight he will be extremely wary of Margarito's size and strength, and box box box.
Cotto saw how the biggest punching welterweight, Cintron, threw EVERYTHING at Antonio and he didn't budge.
Cotto will fight like he did in the last 3 rounds vs. Mosley - on his toes and using the whole ring.
In this fight, Margarito is the power-puncher.

You honestly think Cotto will both attempt & succeed @ boxing outside on an all advancing, powerful stamina-god 4 most of a fight, which is likely he WILL NOT B able 2 do without coming to heavy blows BECAUSE Margarito WILL MAKE HIM? Th@'s the thing; it's not th@ he can't box at all. He WON'T B able 2 do it all night 2 win.
If not Shane, Cotto normally would've tried closing the show, but he was winded & stayed away, saying he was "just boxing."

Yes, Cotto will attempt to outbox Margarito.
Will this tactic be successful?
No, it will not.
I'm convinced that the type of relentless violent pressure that Margarito brings will ultimately overwhelm Cotto.
Margarito will start closing the gap around the 3rd round and begin landing the harder, more damaging shots.
Sometime during this fight Margarito will land an uppercut that will seriously rock Cotto and lead to his TKO.
Box or trade, Cotto won't have the answers.

margarito cant take body punches and cotto is great at that, and also he cant defend against counter punching and cotto does that pretty well too. i think cotto wins by KO before the 9th

This is the one Margarito will definetly lose.You know Margarito is good but he need to improve his overall.He need to become a better boxer and leave that brawler style a side.If he fights Cotto like he fougth Cintron hes going down hard.

Cotto was week and gettign dropped at 140 now he will have no excuse. He is fighting a real Welter, a guy who can take it and give. Margo might not be as pretty as some fighters but very very effective. It will be Sanchez/gomes all over again.

no he didnt the corley hurt him a bit but torres was the only one to really rock him but that was when he was struggling to make weight at 140 judah and mosley didnt even phase him and hes hasnt been hurt since hes been at 147

Maragito is an up or down fighter he has'nt shown the consistency of a great Champion, no question about his power or his aggressiveness but when it comes to top opposition there's something missing like Zab judah all the ability but there's a missing factor while Cotto is steady improving Maragito seems to be in the same place but i can see what you are saying this is a real test for the both of them and their DESIRE for ultimate Championship

i'm neither Mexican or Puerto Rican so i could careless about the country pride thing i just believe in the fighter...my money is on COTTO..i believe maragito is an excellent B+ fighter with A+ power while cotto is a A+ fighter with A power the real difference is in technique and i believe Maragito will suffer from cotto boxing ability and body work while make no mistakes i can see Maragito staggering him a couple of times maybe even drop him but cotto by UD

Maragito is dangerous because he can get you outta there with one shot..Cotto breaks you down both of them are coming off excellent wins Maragito stoping Cintron again...and Cotto manhandling Gomez however there previous fights before that..Cotto i thought barely beat a game mosley but won none the less and Paul Williams boxed Maragito silly with a jab and a straight right...but both are great warriors and skilled fighters to there best degree i feel Cotto just offers more to the skill level

tony is not technical and to be honest he is real sloopy. williams played with him can you imagine what cotto will do to him. Tko in the 7th round. Puerto Rico 53 world champions the most in boxing history.
