...and this concludes our regularly scheduled broadcast. our broadcast will return at 6:30am sharp and everyone here at (youtube) would like to say "good night" :)
@WrenskiBaby yes its about an indian head that dosnt do anything in life, and theres secretly a bottle of captain morgans behind his big feather hat,so its not much of a secret actualy if i know.but anyways
This is a classic. The Local TV Station in my area used this, but had a lower frequency test tone instead of the 1khz tone used in your clip. Thanks for posting!Brainy,Brainman Media
What you do is download this file and make a Video CD with a CD-R through a program such as Realplayer,Power 2 Go or Nero that will let you make a Video CD. I watch them on my DVD player. But the DVD player must be able to play back multiple formats. I do it all the time with these Flash videos.
I remember many morningsbetwwen 1961-1970's when the local station,WATE-TV used this classic TV Test Pattern back when it was an ABCNBC,thenfull time NBC before switching o ABC on Sept.17,1979.Thy no onger air Test Patterns in my area. Thanks to Youtube,i can relive TV's past once again. Thanks for sharing.Brainy
This is good for YouTube, but if you want to put this on tape, you should make a more DVD quality version of it. You can burn it to DVD or some computers with the right adapter can be connected directly to a VCR.
I also want to know for sure why they chose an Indian head!
I don't really know the answer to that for sure, but I guess it might have been because the Native Americans were the first people to inhabit America and they helped to start our nation and they just wanted to recognize them for that through Test Cards? Don't hold me to that though. I really don't have much of a clue. This is just an educated guess from me.
I like that answer, and wish it were true. But I think the actual answer is more mundane. The detail in the Native American's face and dress was used to help fine-tune the equipment (this according to a broadcast engineer friend).
Wow, I never would have guessed it would have been anything like that. I can't believe it never came to me that it might actually have something to do with helping to fine-tune the equipment even though that is a test cards main purpose. I guess I just don't think along the lines of common sense sometimes! That's a really interesting fact to know, because for some reason the Indian Head Test Card is one of the most popular test cards out there still to this day even though it's no longer used!
Is there any way to download this and record it with a VCR? I'd love to have a 6 or 7 hour tape of this clip to have on at night. Test patterns are so relaxing in the background. Late night just ain't late night anymore without 'em...and those infommercials just SUCK compared to this.
Yes. There are many different tools available for download off the internet that allow you to download videos from youtube and place them on your computer. I use a program called "YouTube Downloader" to download any videos that I would like to keep on my computer and watch offline. I'd say it's a simple, easy-to-use tool to grab a video from youtube. Once you download it, you can search for a program that will allow you to loop a video and extend the test card time up to 6 to 7 hours as well!
Ok, thanks. I got it downloaded to my computer with the YouTube Downloader. Is it possible now to put it on a regular ol' videotape? Having it on a TV would make it even more nostalgic for me.
I'm not sure how you would put it on an old VHS videotape. I know that it's possible, but you have to have a special device installed in your computer. I believe it's a Bus 1394 controller. I have one but I have never used it as I do not know what to do with it. If you have a newer VHS recorder, you may be able to transfer the file through a USB port instead. If not, you could always write the file to a VCD that will play on any DVD Player, if you have a CD-writer in your computer of course.
Yes,if you have nero or DVD maker in Windows Vista And 7.But i used a program called"Convertx to DVD".And it worked.I saved some videos for posterity using it.Brainy,Brainman media

@brainman214 Yeah. Back in the day, they used a 440 kHz tone. I should have used that instead.

I suppose if your video card has an S-video output, you could play it on a television with a converter box or a vcr.
