Considering that most teams of that era averaged over 100ppg they were one of the toughest defenses of that time. The Detroit defense of that time paved the way for the the great Pistons and Spurs defenses. A lot of what they do they took from that Pistons team.
The Pistons of the 80s and early 90s were one of the toughest defensive teams ever.
Teams of the 2000s that you mention, like the Spurs and the Pistons play a different style of game.
Back in the 1990s teams played a more uptempo - higher scoring style - like Phoenix does today. Most teams today play a slower game and therefore scoring is not as high.
Some statistics can be deceiving - lower field goal percentage today may also be more from bad shooting than good defence.
who harder the chalange the better Jordan would play, the best perfomances of Jordan was against the best defensive teams, the best averages in the Playoffs, please don't say he was good for is time, he is the best of all time
Let this be a lesson to young players. If you are good at driving to the basket, then practice your outside shot and practice it endlessly. That way, when defenses take away the drive, then you can hit the outside shot. The better Jordan got at the outside shot, the better chance he had to beat the Pistons, who wanted him to drive. He came close to beating them this particular year, and then swept them the next year. Take a lesson from MJ: never stop improving.
i must say, Michael Jordan may b the greatest player of all time. nd thats a big statement considerin all the great players that haf played in the past. He mite very well b the best player to have played the game.
I was going to point out some of the top moments in the game ..untill i realised they were all fantastic ! he just got better and stronger as the game went on !
jordan was obviously so much better than anyone in the league now and then. the bulls championship teams were so strong with good chemistry that one can hardly imagine them being beaten by other teams. just accept the fact and learn how to appreciate it. the piston had the same moment during the end of 90s as well. they deserved it just as much as the bulls did.
Michael had a real high basketball IQ but i dont think it was higher than Magic Johnsons or Oscar Robinsons but he had a will that was unequalled by any athlete ive ever seen cept for maybe Ali
It took the Bulls 3 years to get past Detroit, but such were the circumstances that any other player would crack up. MJ prevailed because of his mindset and incredible competitive spirit. When they got to the Finals in '91 2nd and 3rd scoring options were still players developing - Pippen and Grant. Some ppl underappreciate what MJ was able to do in '91.
Actually Vinnie Johnson was healthy that year; Vinnie, Worm, and Laimb were the only guys healthy for Detroit in their rotation in 1991. If Isiah hadn't had surgery on his wrist, Detroit would've won in 1991. Even Jordan said Isiah wasn't playing hard in that 1991 series; Mike said he was shocked.
You are right on bro/sis! Pistons fans all know the truth. We all know there was a conspiracy to destroy Detroit's style-of-play. We all know that Detroit never took Chicago seriously. We all know that injuries and rule changes contributed to Detroit not 3-peating. We all know after Detroit lost Vinnie and Buddha, that they had no chance of winning. We all know Chicago had no competition after 1991.
shut that crap up, I respect Detroit and their accomplishments not taking away the titles they definatly earned them but they're style of play was DIRTY!!
Oh they handled it especially in 91. They matured, even when Detroit would try to play dirty they didn't fall in to their little games and if you go back and look at that series Detroit got more frustrated after each game because Chicago was playing well above Detroit's tactics and that's why their asses were swept and wasn't man enough to shake the Bulls hands. I think only Vinnie Johnson, John Salley and Joe Dumars were the only one's who acknowledged the Bulls after game 4
I'm not even talking about the 70's. We're talking about late 80's and 90's and for a time in the 90's Chicago beat Detorit 13 straight times and please don't give me that crap that the Piston's didn't have anyone
detroitpistonpride, what a dumb name, if you were born in some other city u would name yourself with a pro team in that city. come on, just gotta be rational. detroit was good, bulls was good. teams go up and down, the stats you dig out saying detroit beating the bulls 4 times is nonsense becuase they are not the same team.
i dont like the bulls anymore because they are not the same team that i like. why did i like them?becasue they had good players and played really really well. it is a pleasure to watch them beating other teams. not because i have so much emotional with that city as i was born and raised in there. that's totally bullshit to me. i honestly dont give a fuck with that.
Chicago's only competition was Detroit. If you go back to that time period, the Pistons were the only team that dominated the Bulls. The NBA fixed the rules to make sure Chicago would win and they won. Jordan's gambling addiction combined with his father's death and his retirement all spoke to "the fix". The NBA has been doing this for a long time. People are such saps to believe this is all real. Everybody is paid so nobody cares!
well i guess it was fixed for detroit to win too motherfuckin faggot 3dstone,because the bulls beat the same teams that detroit beat for their two championships, some motherfuckers like you are so fucking stupid, they should be aborted after the fact
haha zopoundsakpase well said. i ususally dont agree with these exessive wording but yea 3dstone is fucking idiot. he always posts his 'conspiracy' talk here and there saying that nba beat detriot in favor of jordan. and also putting out race card like nba promote white people over black..come on, i really am sick of what 3dstone said as if we are all dumb enough to believe that we actually walk into the TV(cont)
jordan is just great in any aspect even he didnt win the playoff series against pistons. he score more with higher % and play better defense than any pistons.his athletic moves and basketball IQ is just beyond anyone ever played in NBA. the bulls in those days maybe immature except jordan and the piston was in its peak. but according 3dstone, piston would kill bulls anyday even in the 2 3peats. did that happen?NO!
please dont be so pathetic and stop day dreaming about your imaginative "10 consecutive nba champion detroit pistons'it never exist. putting jordan down with your conspiracy talk only let people know how bitter you are.
detroit was a good team and no one disrespect them, i think they did great job on defense and they did played like a champion. only stupid dumb fucking cunt like you 3dstone try to step onto someone tail and say ' i am better than you anytime ' gives me negative feeling about detriot. so shut them fuck up from now on in the jordan's page and go to your fucking detriot fan site and take your crap over there.
If that wuss Scottie Pippen had played even his average instead of 1-10(like during the championship runs), and a health Paxson or even a 2 yr mature BJ Armstrong, this series would have been won by the Bulls, so I don't know why alot of ppl think this Pistons team was sooo greaat and that the Bulls didn't stand a chance.
MJ specifically said his 72 win season team had the BEST rhythm of ANY Bulls team he played for, for an entire season meaning that team was far superior to this Bulls, meaning they wouldn't have lost in 7 games whereas the 90 Bulls team was the first year with PJ so figuring things out and certain players maturing.
I think there's no other team can beat Bulls in 1996 & 1992. They were the best team on the planet!
Jordan, Pippen, Grant, John Paxson, Phil Jackson, they worked together for many years, they truely build up a great team, they were not like Kobe & Shaq's Lakers.
And the 1996 Bulls, they were best in both offence and deffence, there were very few teams could compete with them in the NBA hsitory.
If the pistons were better, why did they only win 2 championships when MJ's bulls won 6? Why did they get SWEPT the next year against the bulls? They didn't even beat the bulls once that series but when they beat the bulls in the playoffs the series went to 6 and 7 games. Why couldnt they even make the conference finals in 1992 and not even make the playoffs in 1993?
The only substantial change the Pistons had to their roster from 1989 to 1992 was losing James Edwards and gaining athletic Orlando Woolridge (who averaged more points, assists, blocks, steals and a better FG% than James Edwards in 1992)
Yes this is the same pistons team that lost to the knicks in the 1st round of 1992 Playoffs (who apparently weren't "competition"))
The nucleus of the Pistons (Isiah, Joe, Laimbeer, Aguire, Rodman) were still together from previous years, and they added Mills (15 points) and Robertson (1 of the best defenders ever). They didnt even make the playoffs!
89-90 Pistons were great, but to say that the Pistons are better cos the 6 time world champs didnt have competition is ignorant when that same competition destoyed the pistons
The Bulls never had competition which is why they won 6 titles. The only competition Chicago had was Detroit. Detroit had Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland. Plus, the NBA was soft and weak after 1991. Detroit beat themselves cause they got rid of Vinnie Johnson and James Edwards; they could've won 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 if everybody stayed together.
"Lies..it's when u hide the truth. It's when u talk more jazz than proof. And when u lie & address something u don't know..it's so wack that it's bound to show.." -- Talkin' All that Jazz by Stetsasonic. Everytime I hear you dumb ass kids on YouTube address things, you OBVIOUSLY know nothing about, that verse pops in my head..
And I guess those Knick teams the Bulls were beating, you know the one that man handled those same pistons in '92, weren't competion either? Man, you so called piston "die hards" sound like "blow hard" idiots. It's one thing to be die hard, but not give credit to a team just because they beat your team, is flat out moronic. Either y'all are incredibly immature or incredibly stupid, which on this site these days, seems to go hand-in-hand..
If you were born before 1980 you know the only competition for Chicago was Detroit; the Pistons were their only barrier to a title. Once they beat Detroit (with help from the NBA) the floodgates were opened. All those other teams (including Detroit w/o Vinnie and Edwards) weren't competition for the Bulls. Just the truth. Mentally the Bulls were head and shoulders above NY, Indiana, Utah, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, etc... It was never any real competition like what Detroit gave Chicago.
OK then, how is it that these SAME teams that you declare weren't "real competition" for the Bulls, were able to beat Detroit during the Bulls reign? I mean by your logic, if Detroit was their "ONLY" competition, the Pistons ALSO should've been easily sweeping these SAME teams aside, setting up further future meetings with the Bulls during '92-'93 ECF. Like I said, not giving teams their just due because they beat your team, is not "die hard" that's being a "blow hard"..
I disagree with you my 3Dstones, there is no validation to your opinion. The truth is that Michael Jordan has further elevated his game. It is him who has no competion.
So once the NBA got soft, Detroit suddently stopped winning because it was too soft for them I see, and that somehow, from 1 year to next, the all lost it bc they accomplished so much.
A mid 30 something MJ and Pippen would have still destroyed that Detroit team of the same age.. so maybe the Pistons outplayed and earned abnormal returns to get a few succesful years while they were 'younger' at the expense of the future.
I mean people make excuses that they got old, etc, but the later Bulls team were all in their mid 30's, and that mid-30's Bulls teams would have beat a mid-30's Pistons team easily.
This ain't about Detroit, or Chicago for that matter you idiots. This is all about Jordan, the greatest player of all time. So enough of this "Detroit was better." I think I hear the wambulance.
Both teams were great and the Pistons were the bulls maybe only rivals. But no bulls fan can say pistons suck. I am a bulls fan and you have to respect the Bad Boys. The only thing i didnt like about what they did was when they didnt shake hands. Joe Dumars said that he noticed that every time the bulls lost to them Mike always said good luck in the finals and hugged him.
Here's the part you missed: Detroit down 7; Isiah makes 2 freethrows. They foul, B.J. Armstrong makes 1. Detroit down 6. Isiah hits a big 3 over Jordan. Chicago calls timeout. Ed Nealy throws the ball off Salley, Pippen has it stripped by Isiah, but he can't hold on; Pippen/Dumars jumpball. Dumars wins the tap; timeout Detroit. Detroit down 3 and Aguirre takes that bad shot. Should've given it to Thomas who had 35 points.
Detroit was just the better team... even in 1991 Detroit was better but injuries caught up with them. Yes, I believe the 1991 ECF was fixed. How the heck are you going to go from losing to a team 3 straight years in the regular season and playoffs to all of a sudden sweeping them? Come on?
If you think that the 1991 team was better than they would have gone out on top, like a real Dynasty. Dude, you are on drugs. It was the emergence of Pippen, Grant, and may others. Also, it isn't like you smoked us the year before. A 7 games series my friend. Are you the Piston fan who thinks that the recent Piston teams are going to be remembered like they were some Dynasty?? YEAH RIGHT! One Championship in 3 trips to the Finals. Win six titles and then you can talk.
Let's get real: 1988-1990 Detroit whipped Chicago in the season and during the playoffs easily! The Bulls had no competition. Even Pippen and Jordan said their biggest battle was Detroit; everybody else was simple to defeat. Everybody played at a lower level than Detroit/Chicago at that time. Even the Lakers weren't as good without Kareem and Cooper. As far as these sorry Pistons now, I never liked them and thought they were a joke of a team.
lmao because mike finally figured it out, the games were fixed, mike should of been won bitch 3dstone,against the scum pistons, who only could stop him by trying to beat his brains in,and still failed to stop mike's sudden destruction of them, jordan just proved his will is mighter than entire teams
Ill never know why people mention other players names in the same breathe as Jordan. I respect the old skool pistons but when J got it together it was a wrap, and before that he still did his thing.
And furthermore if I knew how to transfer VHS to youtube, I'd put up games 2, 4, and 6 of 89 where Zeke put up over 26 in every game with Jordan guarding him the entire time. Including 33 and 32 in the finale. Get your jumpman glasses off and look at the real
LOL. Jordan did not guard Isiah games 2,4 and 6. Perhaps for a quarter here or there, but not "the entire time." Where are you getting this stuff from? The only game that series where Jordan guarded Isiah for more than a half was in game 3.
AMEN VITO84! Tell these guys the truth. Isiah would kill Jordan in the playoffs and make sure his teams out-executed Chicago in every facid of the game. Jordan was good but the NBA changed the rules (flagrant foul) to make the game fit Jordan's style-of-play. Why do you think every little thing is a foul now. I wish I could get those games Vito84; I'm a die-hard Pistons fan. I miss those days! If you have any way I can see those games, let me know.
how about Zeke was a point and let other people get involved. He didn't have to have a hand on every play and wasn't selfish, thinking he could do it on his own. As for the Jordan rules, they worked, didn't they? But you need to check facts, Joe put up 27 and 31 in the first two games of the confernce finals. When Mike guarded Isiah, that opened up mismatches all over the court, if you know anything about ball and not just stats, and Zeke was a smart player.
Vito, I remember those games about yesterday but I lost all those tapes. If you could put them on Youtube I'd appreciate it. I miss all those games where Detroit used to whip on Chicago. Zeke was better and Jordan had to do everything for the Bulls. Still ticked Detroit didn't sweep in 1990 cause they were up 69-55; they still won in 7. Anything from the 1990 Pistons would be appreciated.
you're talking about one game where he kept Zeke out of the lane. In three of the six games in 89, Isiah outscored Jordan...look it up. I got me knowledge from documentation, box scores and the opening of the game you're watching. Hubie Brown said Jordan was pissed because Dumars and Vinnie Johnson were giving it to him on offense. I have facts, you have speculation.
First off, Isiah only outscored Jordan in 2 out of the 6 games in 1989 (I assume you mean the '88-'89 season). Secondly, there were no "Isiah Rules," so comparing production is silly -- Jordan was guarded by the whole team; Isiah was guarded by Paxson.
Lastly, Jordan didn't guard Isiah in any of those games. He did, however, guard him for halves or entire games in the '88-'90 postseasons, one of which I cited (and he always did a great job on Thomas). How about watching the games before you talk? And Dumars did average something like 10-11 ppg on 40% shooting in the 1990 ECF. So no, you don't have "facts."
how can he hold both of them to that. In 90 Dumars torched him for 27 and 31 in the first two games, Zeke had a broken hand recovering in that series from cracking Cartwright's skull and had 33 and 31 in two games in 89. get your facts right. Before game 3 in 90, MJ didn't talk to the media because Joe and Vinnie Johnson were both lighting him up. Zeke wasn't aggressive in those games, not shut down
Dumars averaged like 11 points on 40% shooting in the '90 ECF against Chicago. Where are you getting your numbers from? And Jordan certainly DID shut down Isiah in a few games he guarded him -- the one I mentioned was from the '89 playoffs, and Jordan held him to 7 pts and 6 assists. The commentators gushed all game about what a great job Jordan was doing keeping Isiah out of the lane.
Put on games 1 and 2 of the 1990 ECF if you have it. I remember game 1 like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday and I remember the lob to Salley went in by Isiah and it was a 3. I remember Isiah pressuring B.J. Armstrong and stealing the ball while Salley dunked it in. I remember Detroit screwing up Jordan's hip like crazy playing great defense with NO FOULS because the game wasn't soft then. Shows you how the game has become soft due to Jordan and the NBA changing the rules.
of course, nobody wants to see Zeke cutting the Bulls up, but by vids like these, you would've never thought the Pistons beat Chicago more than they beat them. Zeke and Joe used to light 23 up
That's funny, because Jordan held Isiah to terrible numbers in the few games he guarded him (including 7 pts/6 ast in one game in the '89 playoffs), and held Dumars to *atrocious* playoff series in '89 and '90 (like 10 ppg on 40% shooting or something). Get your facts straight.
People need to know that Jordan got his butt kicked by Detroit, in particular Isiah Thomas. Thomas would always have great games versus Chicago and when he wasn't scoring it was because he was toying with the Bulls. That's why 1991 was so shocking. Even Mike said in 1991 that Isiah wasn't being as aggressive and he was shocked. But the 1990 Pistons were great and embarrassed the Bulls. They dominated Chicago in the regular season of 1989 and 1990 -- if you have those games, show them.
Yes, they dominated Chicago in the regular seasons in '89 and '90, but Chicago still pushed them to 7 games in the 1990 ECF -- I wouldn't call that "dominating." And they might have won had every other Bulls besides Jordan (32 pts/9 reb/8 ast/50% FG) not laid an egg that game (combined 23% shooting aside from Jordan, Pippen 1-10 FG and Grant 3-17 FG).
jxn23 thanks again. MJ at his mercurial playoff best against arguably the best defensive team ever assembled. After watching the play at 1:56, NBA fans should quit ever comparing wanna be MJs like Wade, Kobe, Tmac. His Airness made the most out of control shot look totally in control. Just jawdropping.
I just wish someone would show game 7 of the 1990 Eastern Conference Finals. They show game 4 in 1991 but show games 1, 2, 5, and 7 in 1990. What about Game 1 of the Finals in 1990 where Isiah blew up!??! Also show the regular season games between Detroit/Chicago in 1990 during Feb. and March
I remember this game like yesterday. Detroit was up 2-0 and really dominated Chicago. If you can see the score in the 3rd was 69-55 Detroit; Pistons had them beat. They let the Bulls win this game. I can remember the refs cheating for MJ, but we only see his highlights.
I don't think you could say that the refs "cheated" for MJ - what I didnt show is that they called a very dubious charge foul on Jordan against Rodman in the 4th quarter. Most of the shots MJ made in the 4th quarter were long jumpshots - nothing the refs could help him with.
The pistons were a great team and they won the series in 7, but I dont think you can say that the refs "cheated" for jordan.
Of course the refs didn't cheat but I'm still mad about 1991. If you can find anybody who can post videos about Detroit WINNING games versus Chicago in 1990, then please show them. Every time they show Jordan he's beating Detroit. I wish they'd show the game from March of 1990 where Isiah blew up and Dumars had that behind-the-back pass to Rodman for the dunk in Chicago Stadium where the Bulls' announcers, Jim Durham and Johnny "Redd" Kerr were like, "Oh what a play!!!...What a play!!!"
your contradictory, first u say that they cheated for mj, then u say they diddnt really cheat.........wtf make up yer mind, detroit will always be remembered as steeping stones for mj anyway, not u not anyone can change dat.........too bad.......
I am so glad to see this! Looking back, this was some of my favorite time watching Mike go one on five! If you have more from 87-90 put it up, please. I was inconsolable after these three years of losing.
Jordan is gone and Jesus Christ is forever and I pray that anyone anywhere will place faith and trust in Him (John 17:3)
I agree, Had the Bulls had home court, they may have won the series. But keep in mind, Detroit earned that home court advantage during the regular season by taking out the Bulls in 4 of 5 games, including 2 in Chicago. If I remember correctly, they drilled the Bulls in all of four of those wins.

"one of the toughest defenses ever"
really? 44.7 % defensive field goal percentage and 98 ppg allowed is one of the toughest defensives ever?
how about the pistons and spurs of a few years back who allowed less than 85 ppg and less than 42 percent shooting?
that's tough defense. i'd like to see jordan do this against those teams.

I think only Vinnie Johnson, John Salley and Joe Dumars were the only one's who acknowledged the Bulls after game 4

Detroit has beaten your asses 4 times in the playoffs, as to the bulls two. Besides, one of those wins were in the freaking seventies!
DetroitPistonsPride 4 years ago
I'm not even talking about the 70's. We're talking about late 80's and 90's and for a time in the 90's Chicago beat Detorit 13 straight times and please don't give me that crap that the Piston's didn't have anyone

They idn't have anyone except for Hill, who got freaking injured five times!

detroitpistonpride, what a dumb name, if you were born in some other city u would name yourself with a pro team in that city. come on, just gotta be rational. detroit was good, bulls was good. teams go up and down, the stats you dig out saying detroit beating the bulls 4 times is nonsense becuase they are not the same team.

i dont like the bulls anymore because they are not the same team that i like. why did i like them?becasue they had good players and played really really well. it is a pleasure to watch them beating other teams. not because i have so much emotional with that city as i was born and raised in there. that's totally bullshit to me. i honestly dont give a fuck with that.

Everybody is paid so nobody cares!

jordan is just great in any aspect even he didnt win the playoff series against pistons. he score more with higher % and play better defense than any pistons.his athletic moves and basketball IQ is just beyond anyone ever played in NBA. the bulls in those days maybe immature except jordan and the piston was in its peak. but according 3dstone, piston would kill bulls anyday even in the 2 3peats. did that happen?NO!

MJ specifically said his 72 win season team had the BEST rhythm of ANY Bulls team he played for, for an entire season meaning that team was far superior to this Bulls, meaning they wouldn't have lost in 7 games whereas the 90 Bulls team was the first year with PJ so figuring things out and certain players maturing.
at1212b 4 years ago
I think there's no other team can beat Bulls in 1996 & 1992. They were the best team on the planet!
Jordan, Pippen, Grant, John Paxson, Phil Jackson, they worked together for many years, they truely build up a great team, they were not like Kobe & Shaq's Lakers.
And the 1996 Bulls, they were best in both offence and deffence, there were very few teams could compete with them in the NBA hsitory.
jimmychuang 4 years ago
I'd even say no other team could beat their 91 title team, in my opinion that's their best team
jaboo82681 4 years ago
Chicago Bulls had no competition? I doubt it!
1998 before Jordan retired, Jordan was much slower and older. But Jordan still lead Bulls to win the champion.

Um, those were not the same Pistons teams in those later years. Way to know your history.

Pistons 1990 roster:
Isiah, Dumars, Edwards, Aguire, Laimbeer, Vinnie J, Rodman, Salley, Bedford, Henderson
1991 Roster
Isiah, Dumars, Edwards, Aguire, Laimbeer, Vinnie J, Rodman, Salley, Bedford, Henderson
Way to criticise my knowledge of history when you dont know yours
8kb24 4 years ago
Pistons 1992 Roster:
Isiah, Dumars, Orlando Woolridge, Aguire, Laimbeer, Vinnie J, Rodman, Salley, Bedford, Henderson
8kb24 4 years ago
93
Isiah, Dumars, Woolridge, Aguire, Laimbeer, Rodman, Alvin Robertson, Mills, Polynice.
8kb24 4 years ago
The Bulls never had competition which is why they won 6 titles. The only competition Chicago had was Detroit. Detroit had Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland. Plus, the NBA was soft and weak after 1991. Detroit beat themselves cause they got rid of Vinnie Johnson and James Edwards; they could've won 3 of 4 or 4 of 5 if everybody stayed together.

Either y'all are incredibly immature or incredibly stupid, which on this site these days, seems to go hand-in-hand..
blackadam06 4 years ago
If you were born before 1980 you know the only competition for Chicago was Detroit; the Pistons were their only barrier to a title. Once they beat Detroit (with help from the NBA) the floodgates were opened. All those other teams (including Detroit w/o Vinnie and Edwards) weren't competition for the Bulls. Just the truth. Mentally the Bulls were head and shoulders above NY, Indiana, Utah, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, etc... It was never any real competition like what Detroit gave Chicago.
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
OK then, how is it that these SAME teams that you declare weren't "real competition" for the Bulls, were able to beat Detroit during the Bulls reign? I mean by your logic, if Detroit was their "ONLY" competition, the Pistons ALSO should've been easily sweeping these SAME teams aside, setting up further future meetings with the Bulls during '92-'93 ECF. Like I said, not giving teams their just due because they beat your team, is not "die hard" that's being a "blow hard"..
blackadam06 4 years ago
I disagree with you my 3Dstones, there is no validation to your opinion. The truth is that Michael Jordan has further elevated his game. It is him who has no competion.
mjdbest 4 years ago
So once the NBA got soft, Detroit suddently stopped winning because it was too soft for them I see, and that somehow, from 1 year to next, the all lost it bc they accomplished so much.
A mid 30 something MJ and Pippen would have still destroyed that Detroit team of the same age.. so maybe the Pistons outplayed and earned abnormal returns to get a few succesful years while they were 'younger' at the expense of the future.

you are so wrong, it's unbelievable.
DetroitPistonsPride 4 years ago
I mean people make excuses that they got old, etc, but the later Bulls team were all in their mid 30's, and that mid-30's Bulls teams would have beat a mid-30's Pistons team easily.

AirKhan45 4 years ago

Come on?
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
If you think that the 1991 team was better than they would have gone out on top, like a real Dynasty. Dude, you are on drugs. It was the emergence of Pippen, Grant, and may others. Also, it isn't like you smoked us the year before. A 7 games series my friend. Are you the Piston fan who thinks that the recent Piston teams are going to be remembered like they were some Dynasty?? YEAH RIGHT! One Championship in 3 trips to the Finals. Win six titles and then you can talk.
duhawk69 4 years ago
Let's get real: 1988-1990 Detroit whipped Chicago in the season and during the playoffs easily! The Bulls had no competition. Even Pippen and Jordan said their biggest battle was Detroit; everybody else was simple to defeat. Everybody played at a lower level than Detroit/Chicago at that time. Even the Lakers weren't as good without Kareem and Cooper. As far as these sorry Pistons now, I never liked them and thought they were a joke of a team.

And furthermore if I knew how to transfer VHS to youtube, I'd put up games 2, 4, and 6 of 89 where Zeke put up over 26 in every game with Jordan guarding him the entire time. Including 33 and 32 in the finale. Get your jumpman glasses off and look at the real
vito84 4 years ago
LOL. Jordan did not guard Isiah games 2,4 and 6. Perhaps for a quarter here or there, but not "the entire time." Where are you getting this stuff from? The only game that series where Jordan guarded Isiah for more than a half was in game 3.
jordanlover23 4 years ago

When Mike guarded Isiah, that opened up mismatches all over the court, if you know anything about ball and not just stats, and Zeke was a smart player.
vito84 4 years ago
Vito, I remember those games about yesterday but I lost all those tapes. If you could put them on Youtube I'd appreciate it. I miss all those games where Detroit used to whip on Chicago. Zeke was better and Jordan had to do everything for the Bulls. Still ticked Detroit didn't sweep in 1990 cause they were up 69-55; they still won in 7. Anything from the 1990 Pistons would be appreciated.
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
you're talking about one game where he kept Zeke out of the lane. In three of the six games in 89, Isiah outscored Jordan...look it up. I got me knowledge from documentation, box scores and the opening of the game you're watching. Hubie Brown said Jordan was pissed because Dumars and Vinnie Johnson were giving it to him on offense. I have facts, you have speculation.
vito84 4 years ago
First off, Isiah only outscored Jordan in 2 out of the 6 games in 1989 (I assume you mean the '88-'89 season). Secondly, there were no "Isiah Rules," so comparing production is silly -- Jordan was guarded by the whole team; Isiah was guarded by Paxson.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
Lastly, Jordan didn't guard Isiah in any of those games. He did, however, guard him for halves or entire games in the '88-'90 postseasons, one of which I cited (and he always did a great job on Thomas). How about watching the games before you talk? And Dumars did average something like 10-11 ppg on 40% shooting in the 1990 ECF. So no, you don't have "facts."
jordanlover23 4 years ago
how can he hold both of them to that. Zeke wasn't aggressive in those games, not shut down
vito84 4 years ago
Dumars averaged like 11 points on 40% shooting in the '90 ECF against Chicago. Where are you getting your numbers from? And Jordan certainly DID shut down Isiah in a few games he guarded him -- the one I mentioned was from the '89 playoffs, and Jordan held him to 7 pts and 6 assists. The commentators gushed all game about what a great job Jordan was doing keeping Isiah out of the lane.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
Put on games 1 and 2 of the 1990 ECF if you have it. I remember game 1 like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday and I remember the lob to Salley went in by Isiah and it was a 3. I remember Isiah pressuring B.J. Armstrong and stealing the ball while Salley dunked it in. I remember Detroit screwing up Jordan's hip like crazy playing great defense with NO FOULS because the game wasn't soft then. Shows you how the game has become soft due to Jordan and the NBA changing the rules.
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
of course, nobody wants to see Zeke cutting the Bulls up, but by vids like these, you would've never thought the Pistons beat Chicago more than they beat them. Zeke and Joe used to light 23 up
vito84 4 years ago
That's funny, because Jordan held Isiah to terrible numbers in the few games he guarded him (including 7 pts/6 ast in one game in the '89 playoffs), and held Dumars to *atrocious* playoff series in '89 and '90 (like 10 ppg on 40% shooting or something). Get your facts straight.
jordanlover23 4 years ago
People need to know that Jordan got his butt kicked by Detroit, in particular Isiah Thomas. Thomas would always have great games versus Chicago and when he wasn't scoring it was because he was toying with the Bulls. That's why 1991 was so shocking. Even Mike said in 1991 that Isiah wasn't being as aggressive and he was shocked. But the 1990 Pistons were great and embarrassed the Bulls. They dominated Chicago in the regular season of 1989 and 1990 -- if you have those games, show them.
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
Yes, they dominated Chicago in the regular seasons in '89 and '90, but Chicago still pushed them to 7 games in the 1990 ECF -- I wouldn't call that "dominating." And they might have won had every other Bulls besides Jordan (32 pts/9 reb/8 ast/50% FG) not laid an egg that game (combined 23% shooting aside from Jordan, Pippen 1-10 FG and Grant 3-17 FG).
jordanlover23 4 years ago
jxn23 thanks again. MJ at his mercurial playoff best against arguably the best defensive team ever assembled. 3DStoneCt 4 years ago
I remember this game like yesterday. Detroit was up 2-0 and really dominated Chicago. If you can see the score in the 3rd was 69-55 Detroit; Pistons had them beat. They let the Bulls win this game. I can remember the refs cheating for MJ, but we only see his highlights.
3DStoneCt 4 years ago
I don't think you could say that the refs "cheated" for MJ - what I didnt show is that they called a very dubious charge foul on Jordan against Rodman in the 4th quarter. Most of the shots MJ made in the 4th quarter were long jumpshots - nothing the refs could help him with.
The pistons were a great team and they won the series in 7, but I dont think you can say that the refs "cheated" for jordan.
jxn23 4 years ago
Of course the refs didn't cheat but I'm still mad about 1991. If you can find anybody who can post videos about Detroit WINNING games versus Chicago in 1990, then please show them. Every time they show Jordan he's beating Detroit. I wish they'd show the game from March of 1990 where Isiah blew up and Dumars had that behind-the-back pass to Rodman for the dunk in Chicago Stadium where the Bulls' announcers, Jim Durham and Johnny "Redd" Kerr were like, "Oh what a play!!!...What a play!!!"
